Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Missed the game tonight to see "No Country for Old Men

It reminded me of watching a Bulls game.  The film ended abruptly with nothing resolved, leaving the audience feeling empty and dissastified (except for the buttercorn).

Since I draw most of my Bulls sustinance by watching Tyrus Thomas highlight reruns on youtube and dreaming what could have been, tonight's victory seems like a rerun of another of Jim Boylan's formula farces.  We all know the script, play as many guards as possible, keep Tyrus and  Noah pinned to the bench and always have a hair-raising helter-skelter finish using similar plot lines that make no sense to anyone except the loony director who is deluded into thinking he has created another masterpiece because management continues to let thim grind out these stinking turds.  One in a row...One in a row!  Let's award Boylan a Golden Finger Award.

Star-divide

Here are some 4th quarter stats from the 2 recent games where the Bulls blew 20+ point leads in recent reverse order-New Orleans, 76r's.-

Nocioni  0 minutes       6:12 (-8)
Tabo    2.30 (-10)       8:35 (-18)
Gray     0               0
Tyrus    0               3:07  (-3)
Gordon  12    (-20)      3:02  +1
Noah    10:20 (-17)      0
Deng    12    (-20)      12    (-20)
Hughes  10:20 (-17)      6:23  (-13)
Kirk     1:38 ( -3)      11:41 (-22)
Gooden  10:07 (-13)       8:32 (-14)

In the Washington fiasco, Deng played the entire 2nd half, racking up a (-24) while Larry Hughes was (-32) in 18:32 minutes. Can we conclude that Leol needs some rest time as the game regresses and our small ball combinations are pathetic at best?  Tyrus sat out the final 34 minutes of the Wizard game and Gray is not even an afterthought.   Suggestions anyone?

the Coens apologize
They are really sorry no one blew up the meteor in earth's orbit, got the girl, saved the diplomat's kidnapped child, defeated the evil robots, defeated the evil ninjas, and the Black Eyed Peas weren't on the soundtrack.

It's a lot more fulfilling
if you've read the book beforehand. The movie was one of the best I've ever seen. Now, go see 'There will be Blood' and you'll be able to reference it beter to the Bulls 07-08 season. I'd rather leave the movie-sport connections to the all great and all knowing Bill Simmons.

I agree
I thought Javier Bardem was awesome (I just saw the movie last weekend), but was very disappointed when the movie just ended without any sort of huge climax......

It made the movie overrated to me.

Without Bardem the movie really would have been a huge disappointment.

Still, I'm a Coen brothers fan, and I have to say this is one of the worst "best picture" picks I've ever seen.  A decent movie, 3 out of 4 stars, with some very solid acting....but nothing close to a normal best picture at least for me.

I like the comparison to the Bulls though.....that movie had all the hype and fanfare and then let me down big time.

I guess the difference though is that movie had one superstar actor (Javier Bardem--not a superstar in stars terms, but his acting skills were superstar worthy)....the Bulls ain't got that....

Listen, hscs,
what you do in the privacy of your own home, and with whom, is your business. But no, I haven't seen her. I actually didn't know you lived in a place with an upstairs.

No Country
Was intended for you to feel what you wanna feel

I know Ethan well and the first time we went to the premier, he was like, "What did you think?"

I replied with, "I don't know"

He said, "Perfect"

I thought the movie was brilliant

Seriously?
You know Ethan Coen well?

Or is this one of those wink-wink deals you see on Blogabull sometimes, like that guy who said Kirk Hinrich was all full of himself at a bar one time, or that guy who had an asinine exchange with Duhon over making change for the CTA?

Off topic, but sorry
How do you know Ethan?  Are you in the business?

I'll tell you how exactly
  1. I used to work at Amoeba records here in LA. One of my coworkers and best friends till this day is Tiffany Anders.
  2. Tiffany's mom is a well known film director Allison Anders.
  3. The Anders family knows a ton of people. I can't explain to you how many celebs I've met and now close with through them,
  4. Tiffany used to housesit his house for him in Santa Monica when he would go make shoot films.
  5. We hit it off well cause Ethan and Joel are hella cool guys.  So that's how I know them.
  6. I kinda hit the jackpot working at Amoeba. It allowed me to become friends with some of the coolest people in music and films

perfectly said
the movie is brilliant.  the authenticity is what i love the most.  thats what i loved about the book, the realism, and ethan and joel captured that perfectly.

God I love Amoeba Records
Of course I'm only speaking of it's San Fran counterpart.....

I miss record stores....in the midwest....

My faves in Milwaukee (where I went to college) are all but gone.

There are still a few in Chicago (Reckless Records, and one on Belmont--Can't remember the name because that one opened up after I moved away from there, but I still visit it on occasion)....

But man, shopping for music over the internet just ain't the same....

Cool story about the Coen's etc.  I envy you.....

Best Chicago Record Store
Permanent Records.

by Kemp @ Blog a Bull on Mar 19, 2008 2:35 PM CDT up reply actions

where is that?
I've never heard of it?

I used to shop around Chicago quite a bit and was always surprised that I found more finds in Milwaukee (and per capita Milwaukee seemed to have many more record stores)...

by majoyenrac on Mar 19, 2008 3:12 PM CDT up reply actions

Its on
1914 W. Chicago Ave.  Its a solid place, though I do often buy my records out of town; whenever I visit SF/Seattle/Vancouver/NY/Amherst I pick up lots of stuff.  However, I played a show at Permanent and was floored by the good rare stuff they have.

Awesome
Thanks a lot for the tip.

What band are you in?

Also
Dusty Groove is also a great record store at Ashland and Division

http://www.dustygroove.com/

And KStark has lots and lots of stuff.

Hmmm
That's awesome cause I've wanted to move out to Chicago my whole life and I'm only good at working at record stores, but didn't think Chicago had any.

If they hired me, I could live in the same city the Bulls play in!?

YES!

Now if I can just convince my girl . .

What about Rock Records
in the Loop? I ask this as an honest question.

I always pass that place, with its semi-famous celebrity mural, and wonder what the deal is with it.

Keep in mind that No Country
is based on a Cormac McCarthy novel.

McCarthy, a virtuouso of elegant prose, is also unrelentingly bleak in his conception of humanity. To put it bluntly, most of his books (All The Pretty Horses, Blood Meridian, The Road, No Country For Old Men) embody the notion that good is either too inept or too impotent to prevail over evil. Within that ideological framework, the ending might make more sense.

Not surprisingly, McCarthy's cosmology applies perfectly to the Bulls. Boylan is either too inept or too incompetent to prevail over the other teams in the NBA.

i did the excat same thing
watched no country over the bulls game...nothing more crazy than that strangulation scene at the start... yikes.

Bardem would be lucky to get a bit part in a
Boylan production.  Why?
Because he is very focused and driven, has ice in his viens, doesn't panic under pressure and almost always hits hit shots.   Not a Boylan type of guy.

The Bulls are more like Juno
Not enjoyable, and a waste of time.  Usually comedy uses wit in order to be funny, not just for the sake of being witty.
