All Star Weekend Diary

I figure somebody else in the BAB community is watching the All Star Saturday Night (virtually) with me.  Here's a spot for observations, rants or interesting anecdotes that are not boring and are easy to remember.

To start: Duhon shot extremely well for team Chicago in the first round of the Shooting Stars competition.

Yeah, Du is off to a good start
Given it's our only representation this weekend, that's nice to see.
Maybe I'll take up hockey.

Second again
Darn that half court shot.
Maybe I'll take up hockey.

Chicago lost
Just couldn't hit the half-court shot at the end and they lost to the San Antonio team.

I gotta say this though: Duh is a legit Shooting Stars All-Star.  I wish there was some d-league for this event that Duh could be sequestered to.

Duhon is a ...
... 34 point scorer. Don't forget!

we had a height advantage ... kind of!
on paper we didn't have a weak link, basically all guards (I guess Dupree plays F? She was taller than BG last year) but I guess Robinson/Duncan had all the intangibles and the NBA rigged it somehow for them to win!

But at least we beat Detroit. Again. Still hate Laimbeer.

Thank God for Kenny and Charles
They make ASW so much more entertaining.

Glad Kapono got to tie
Craig Hodges. But it sure took them long enough to mention the old Bull's name!

Wow
His Superman dunk was absurd.  He threw the ball down through the hoop!!!  Are you serious?!

by paxson43 on Feb 16, 2008 9:37 PM CST up reply actions

I was just thinking that how is that a dunk?
I alway thought you had to have hand rim contact? I can't stand when the players act all shocked. It's like outdated. Remember when they would all bing their cameras? Like it wouldn't ever be on TV again.

Yeah!
I hope that David Stern bans the players' human emotion soon.  The ASW will be so much more enjoyable to watch when the players don't have any fun.  The more this sport is like amatuer golf competitions the better.

Emotion is great.
Emotion overdone just to get attention is what I have a problem with. Do I really wana see grown men dancing or screaming like a twelve year old boy? You see most of those dunks evey game. If you like a circus then I guess ASW is for you. I was into that stuff when I was sixteen or seventeen but it's not something I'll make an effort to watch. I hated most those guys anyways like Reggie and Charles now it's all you see.

JoeJoe
How long ago was that?

by hlac on Feb 17, 2008 4:35 PM CST up reply actions

ya for me...
thats one of the best parts. Seeing them all excited to be there and having a good time. It is all about having fun in the spirit of the game, taking it back to the times when you were a kid and got all excited when you and your friends were trying to do crazy tricks on a short rim.

by SRQman on Feb 17, 2008 2:31 PM CST up reply actions

Those were good times but....
is your life that bad that you need to feel that again?

by JoeJoe27 on Feb 17, 2008 2:53 PM CST up reply actions

No,
but is it bad to reminisce?

by SRQman on Feb 17, 2008 7:38 PM CST up reply actions

Of course not.....
I reminisce when I drive past my friends old house and look at that run down hoop knowing somebody else lives there now. We would lower the hoop to 8 feet and then bring out his dads camera and place it on the ground so that the hoop looked 10 feet. It's funny I remember the day he bought it I was so jacked up. It's weird thinking how they left it behind. It kinda makes me sad. Even when I vist my mom I look at that drive way and the cement left over where my hoop used to be. Some kid tore it down by hanging on the rim. Watching the Bulls and then run out during timeouts and play ball in the snow or rain. But there was nothing better than going up on your buddies and dunking on them. Then you would look at your hands and they were scuffed up and dirty. Good times.

Mike Fratello Should be Fired
He said that during BG's and Deng's injuries, Duhon had been carrying the team with his hot hand.  I think Fratello watched the Golden State game and assumed that's what Du's entire season looked like.  BENCH THIS LOSER!

by Stay Chisel on Feb 17, 2008 12:03 PM CST reply actions

I'd take Fratello over Tom, Red and Stacey.
Really though I want the Bulls to move Funk and Wennington to the TV side. Retire Kerr as a coach/broadcaster and tell him to take a hike like they did with Krause. Send Stacey back to Oklahoma and maybe send Tom to the radio side. Find someone with the skills of Tom Thayer and John Paxson.

Or someone with Harry Carey's old skill:
Nowitzki spelled backwards is Ikztiwon...
"Duhon, don't make that garbage-time jumper... Save it for the next game!"
