Trade Rumor[Hornets247.com] Gordon+Griffin for Wright,Butler,Armstrong

http://hornets247.com/post.php?id=471#comments

Considering how bad we are at developing young players I wonder if this is to avoid paying Gordon.Might as well dump the slow footed Deng.

Like it or not "Rebuilding Part 4" is upon us.

It is clear to me that Gordon won't play another game for the Bulls. The bad ending of the contract negotiations of Deng and Gordon had an enormous effect on their play.

This group isnt going anywhere.Might as well give the keys to Noah,Thomas and Sefolosha and Nocioni.

Keep Nocioni...he is the only one with guts on this roster.

Paxson should look to dump Hinrich,Wallace and Deng until the offseason.

These players have made the Bulls almost unwatchable.

Oh..did i mention we need a new coach?

yeah, guts will get us everywhere
Here's the comment in question:
Hornets actually were near a deal for Gordon but Chicago decided they wanted more in the last minute. The deal was Julian Wright, Rasual Butler, and 1st round pick for Gordon, filler might have been involved depending on cap situations. Chicago called in last minute and asked for Armstrong to be included in the deal. Hornets said they were not willing to give up armstrong and Wright in the same deal, the told chicago they could have one. Chicago if they could only have 1 they wanted the deal to expanded. Right now the two are still in serious discussions and names like Melvin Ely, Marcus Vincius, more 1st round picks, Adrian Griffin are being throw around.

Plus all the stuff about how this particular commenter knows peeps in the front office, etc.

I'll believe it when Marc Stein or another E-vulture says so.

Seriously
Wasn't there a guy named Kevin here a while back throwing around similar kind of shit?

Maybe he turned into a Hornets fan

that kevin guy was actually right once
but he was a complete shithead, so I don't care if he was the actual goblin Paxson thinks is phonetapping.

One out of sixty five, though

It was one thing to trade Noc for Julian Wright...
... Gordon is something else.

A couple of prospects on rookie deals were what I suggested the Bulls might ought to go for if they went in this direction with Gordon.  But jeez.

That being said, I'm not very in love with those particular prospects.  At all.  So I guess I'm on the fence till I study it more.  If Hilton Armstrong is some sort of dealbreaker, we'll, we best start breaking out the cyanide tablets.

You know the Hornets must feel good about the prospects of dealing with us...

by Sports2 on Feb 14, 2008 3:42 PM CST reply actions

Ya know, I kinda like
this trade.  If the Hornets won't give up Hilton, I wouldn't mind Gordon + Griffin for Wright + Butler + Ely + two 1sts.

Gordon clearly doesn't love Chicago, and I've posted before how I don't think a 6th man is worth $10-12 mil a year.  I'd rather trade him now while his value is still high.

Wright is a legit 3, meaning he can play with Tyrus who is a 4 (regardless of what Boylan says).  From what I saw of him in college, Julian is the better ball handler and passer and is better defending outside the lane.  And this trade makes Nocioni completely expendable in the offseason.

I wanted the Bulls go after Melvin Ely this offseason.  He might be lacking on defense and rebounding, but the man can score from the post, and that's worth 10-15 minutes on our team.

And Butler sucks, but oh well.  The key to the trade is Wright.  I have fond thoughts of Deng, Wright, Tyrus, and Noah plugging the forward and center positions for the next decade.

Don't answer the phone Pax!
Paxson is NOK Hornets GM John Bower's "Isiah"

This is atrocious.  Bower's sitting there in wherever their team offices are these days and thinking: "Hmmm, Paxson's an idiot and I totally fleeced him a little while back.  Let's see if I can offer him a pile of trash for a sweet-shooting 6th man."

And just to set the record straight, I'm not some huge BG fan.

What the hell would Chicago do
with Julian Wright or Hilton Armstrong?

Isn't Julian Wright the same exact player as Tyrus Thomas only more raw?

by NBA Observer on Feb 14, 2008 3:48 PM CST reply actions

More Raw???
Then Tyrus??? Im not sure i could stomache that...
im trying hard to become the next kirk hinrich, therefore im doing nothing more than being the next chris duhon.

by piccolomair on Feb 14, 2008 4:29 PM CST up reply actions

Wright's a 3. Thomas is a 4.
I believe this is according to the pretty well established definitions of 3's and 4's.

It's relatively rare that you would see Tyrus Thomas doing a significant amount of ball handling or taking anything longer than a mid-range jumper.

And although Wright hasn't had much PT in the league thus far, he's pegged as primarily a perimeter player with the ability to rebound or score down low when the need arises, making him a small forward, not a power forward.

"Duhon, don't make that garbage-time jumper... Save it for the next game!"

Cant
we get a better package than this for BG? I dont like Julian Wright one bit.

We all have to pitch in to rebuild New Orleans
After they beat us at home is the best time ever.

Flowers and candy for all.

If only we'd held onto Rasual Butler
We wouldn't have to trade our best scorer for him.  :P

You deserve an award for finding this.
Gordon is by far the best player in the deal.  The other players will be long gone and forgotten in 3-5 years.  Congrats for finding this.

by chgobr on Feb 14, 2008 6:58 PM CST reply actions

I think we should
try to keep Captain Kirk.

I don't know what Kirk's problem was early in the season (And that problem went on for 2 months) but he seems to be snapping out of it and getting back to the old Kirk again (although he'd be there faster if he started and wasn't playing almost equal minutes with Duhon).

Kirk's value is at an all time low, so there's no point to trade him, and I think if we let BG go (which it seems we're strongly considering), Kirk can be a more valuable contributor on offense in a guard spot.

by majoyenrac on Feb 15, 2008 12:57 AM CST reply actions

I don't like the new or old Kirk!
Get off my team Kirk!

I like Wright but does it mean Deng will be gone?
Let's just humor this rumor (it's nada tumor):  would Wright be insurance for Deng or another tradeable asset?  I know the Bulls liked him pre-draft and the guy has a higher ceiling than Deng (based on his frame and athletic ability, similar collegiate pedigree) but how much did they like him is the question.

by messwiththebull on Feb 15, 2008 9:02 AM CST reply actions

Really? Better pedigree than Deng?
I can't say I know more than the average person about Julian Wright, but I watched him play at Homewood-Flossmor and a dozen or so Kansas games.

Here's what he doesn't do very well.

  • jump shooting
  • dribbling
He's only 20 and plays sparingly at best for a playoff team like New Orleans.  He's just not ready to contribute yet, but perhaps in time.  But it's unlikely he can play the SF position.  He just doesn't have the dribbling to do it.  If he had Shawn Marion type defensive tenacity I might think more highly of him.

But Deng?  There's no way Julian Wright has a better pedigree than Deng.

I'm definitely open to persuasion on Wright, but to me we have the same player that is further along in similar development scales in Tyrus Thomas.

by NBA Observer on Feb 15, 2008 9:31 AM CST up reply actions

Deng isn't great at dribbling, either.

Julian Wright reminds me of Marcus Fizer
Is it me or does Lebron walk like a duck?!

by GranvilleWaiters on Feb 16, 2008 12:54 AM CST up reply actions

Same here.
I had the exact same thought. More athletic, higher ceiling than Deng, and the Bulls wanted him at draft time anyway. Deng is a nice guy, a wonderful humanitarian, and a solid role-player who is knocking on the door of being an All-Star. But Wright has All-Star potential written all over him, is younger and less expensive.

In some ways this is the clash of two classic mindsets:  do you focus on picking up players with work ethic and nice guy personas (BG/Kirk/Deng)? Or do you draft for potential (TT and everyone drafted in the pre-Paxson building years)?

"Duhon, don't make that garbage-time jumper... Save it for the next game!"

by bullhockey on Feb 15, 2008 9:32 AM CST up reply actions

"Dump the slow-footed Deng"????
You're nuts.

And the thought of losing Gordon makes me a little sick. 'Cause I wonder if the rotation of Kirk/Sefo/BG (minus Du next year) couldn't work out great. And with the Bulls utilizing an inside out offensive game, Gordon could see better shots and get his FG% up. But, until recently, I thought the Kirk/BG duo needs to be broken up. I'd like to think we could get something for him though!

Julian Wright can't shoot. I wonder if the Bulls need to be giving up shooters for non-shooters at this point.
