BG bricks 2 open threes

When I watch NBA games I often call the fouls before the referees do. Sometimes it’s a gift. Most of the time it's troublesome. - NBA Observer

Let me try a different tack

You prefer BG taking the last shot of each quarter when Rose is on the court?

by drew gooden's facial growth on Dec 9, 2008 9:39 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

nice one

switch up the argument when it isn’t in your favor

by NormVanBeer on Dec 9, 2008 9:39 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

the argument was about shot selection

between BG and Hughes…now all of a sudden you change it to BG’s end of quarter shots…huh?

by NormVanBeer on Dec 9, 2008 9:43 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Perhaps I wasn't being clear

I don’t care if BG takes a 3 pointer. That’s his game. I do care when BG jacks up bad shots when D-Rose has the hot hand or when when he dominates end-of-quarters when we have a bona fide closer in Rose.

by drew gooden's facial growth on Dec 9, 2008 9:45 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

So yeah

I am talking about the shot selection of both players.

by drew gooden's facial growth on Dec 9, 2008 9:48 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

You commented as BG just took a bad three when Rose had the hot hand

That’s what I was referring to, and I thought you were referring to the same sequence.

by drew gooden's facial growth on Dec 9, 2008 9:47 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I was referring to Funk's comments about the Knicks sagging off Gordon

because he was 6 for 17. He was acting as though it was reasonable to leave a deadly shooter like Gordon open for three based on the small sample of the game. He just always shits on Gordon at every turn which is a damn shame because Gordon is one of the two best players on this team.

by fundamentallysound on Dec 9, 2008 9:49 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Simple misunderstanding

I agree that Funk has it in for Gordon.

But Gordon being the second best player on the team doesn’t mean anything to me when he’s preventing Rose from getting his crunch time experience. Even worse, he botches those opportunities with laughable regularity.

by drew gooden's facial growth on Dec 9, 2008 9:54 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yes, he sure does

in the previous thread I wondered to myself (and everyone else) what percentage of Gordon’s turnovers (which are relatively low) come with under two minutes to go in a quarter (which I’d bet is astronomically high).

Derrick should have the ball in his hands for all the possessions. I really am starting to hate this team and I’ve been a Bulls fan for over 21 years now but I can’t stand this crap. They’re still my squad and I’m gonna ride out with them but damn this is pissing me off.

We can’t live or die with jumpshots anymore. I have always defended Ben but he is not a playoff caliber starting SG…way too hot or cold. I’d rather have a guy score 14/16 every game instead of 30 one day and 10 the next.

This is the real Larry Hughes…dude had a couple of good games and people started gassing him up and what is he doing today….jacking up shots and playing gambling D.

Gooden is good for a game like this every 6th game. When his fadeway 20footers are falling.

Nocioni doesn’t even try to play D, he just fouls…he has no value at all besides an occasional 3 and all those awesome fist pumps. Fuck passion, I like skill and real effort.

this is exactly the type of game TT excels in and Duhon and others wouldn't have gotten nearly

as many uncontested layups with TT patrolling the weakside. We barely won this game, with TT taking Noc’s minutes, this is an easy win.

by fundamentallysound on Dec 9, 2008 9:47 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

And we were down by 5 at that time.

He cut it to two. I’m just saying.

by PatBull on Dec 9, 2008 9:44 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

So had Noce not played...

We would have blown out the Knicks?

by PatBull on Dec 9, 2008 9:49 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

it wouldn't have been this close. He missed a ton of open threes and

he played shitty shitty D and committed a lot of stupid fouls.

by fundamentallysound on Dec 9, 2008 9:50 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

He missed 4 3's...

which is 1 less than Gordon missed, had 4 fouls (not exactly a ton), had 1 TO (3 less than Gooden), had 2 assists and 3 rebounds.

Im not saying he didn’t suck (he did) Im just agreeing that Noce was the sole reason for the debated 5point deficit.

by PatBull on Dec 9, 2008 9:54 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

he had 4 fouls in 22 minutes, which IS a lot. He missed a bunch of rotations

(as usual) and he shot 33% from the field. He was total crap this game. 2 assists and 3 rebounds in 22 minutes at SF and PF slots that he was playing is not exactly lighting the world on fire, especially in a fast pace game with a lot of possessions. Noc stinks. End of story.

by fundamentallysound on Dec 9, 2008 9:57 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yes, Noce stinks. End of story

But again, he’s the sole reason for the 5 point deficit? Still no.
And the only reason we came back was because Noce left? Also, no.

by PatBull on Dec 9, 2008 9:59 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

And if...

Noce’s 10pts, 3 rebs, 2 assists in 22 minutes is the definition of “suck”…

…would 16pts, 5 rebs, 5 assists (which isn’t double those stats) in 43 mins (almost twice the amount of PT) be suckage too?

Those are Deng’s stats, by the way.

by PatBull on Dec 9, 2008 10:03 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Deng had no fouls and brought his usual very good D to the table

he had an off shooting night and I’ve been bitching about him no hitting the boards for a while now, but he’s still miles better than Noc.

by fundamentallysound on Dec 9, 2008 10:04 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Changing the argument again.

We’re talking about stats.

You said his stas proved Noce suck. I said if we double the PT and got stats that didn’t double, would he still suck?

I guess if we change the name to Deng, it makes a difference.

How about I change Noce’s name to DRose with the same stat. Would he still suck? Something tells me you’re gonna say no.

by PatBull on Dec 9, 2008 10:07 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

no, I'm talking about Noc sucking, I brought up stats as one

part of my argument and also cited Noc’s terrible defensive rotations and basic out of control behavior on the court. You’re the one changing the argument, stats was just part of my point.

by fundamentallysound on Dec 9, 2008 10:09 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

And I agree that Noce sucks.

And I tried to delve deeper into your argument. You used stats, I used stats. You used defense, I mentioned the all defensive team votes.

I’m just following where you go, man.

by PatBull on Dec 9, 2008 10:11 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

well, when assessing D, I recommend watching the

game rather than relying on the opinion of talking heads and gasbags with All-Defensive team votes.

by fundamentallysound on Dec 9, 2008 10:12 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I do watch the games.

I bet the coaches and talking heads who get paid to watch the games actually watch the games too.

Probably even more than we do.

Can’t see why your opinion should carry more weight than a basketball analyst’s opinion or an NBA coach’s vote.

Truth be told, since they are NBA coaches, I value their opinions a bit more than I do yours. But by just a smidgen only so I do think yours has a great amount of value too.

by PatBull on Dec 10, 2008 12:01 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

We do agree.

And the Bulls should trade him.

But I don’t think we came back solely because Noce left or that he was solely responsible for the aforementioned 5 point deficit. That’s all Im arguing for.

by PatBull on Dec 10, 2008 12:02 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

And you are one of like 2-3 people who consider Deng's defense good.

At least wait until he gets at least 1 vote for the defensive team.

Last I checked, Hinrich and Nocioni were the only Bulls to get votes lastyear.

by PatBull on Dec 9, 2008 10:08 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

so now

you’re telling us that it’s rigged??

by NormVanBeer on Dec 9, 2008 10:10 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t know. I didn’t vote so it wasn’t my vote.

Don’t coaches vote on stuff like that?

by PatBull on Dec 9, 2008 10:12 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

i was joking (kinda)

saying that the voting must’ve been rigged if Kirk and Noc received ANY kind of legitimate votes

Oh sorry.

Missed it. Hehehe.

by PatBull on Dec 9, 2008 10:15 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

look at Deng's adjusted plus minus historically

it’s always positive and that’s not solely a product of his offense. Also, I don’t trust writers to tell me who is good at D. They often mistake Noc’s flailing for defense, when I know better.

by fundamentallysound on Dec 9, 2008 10:10 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

not the shitty +/-, the good kind with all the fancy

maths behind it. Anyway, I guess I should clarify, Noc wasn’t the only reason the game was closer than it should have been. Gray played too many minutes again and the other guys had off nights (Rose, BG, etc.), but Noc sucked most of all, as he does every night.

by fundamentallysound on Dec 9, 2008 10:15 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree.

Im hoping Noce gets traded already (despite my being a Noce fan). We really don’t need him.

It’s gonna suck if he gets traded to Cleveland, Boston, NO or LA though.

by PatBull on Dec 9, 2008 10:17 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

none of those teams are dumb enough

to take Noc on for 5 years or have the kind of contracts to send back we’d want or need in a Noc deal (with the exception of maybe NOH who might be desperate following their relatively slow start).

by fundamentallysound on Dec 9, 2008 10:18 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Whoa there;

you didn’t notice Nocioni’s terrible rotations on D? Or shooting 3/9? Or 4 fouls in 22 minutes?

Deng shot a good percentage, added five assists, two blocks and a steal. That’s not suckage.

by fundamentallysound on Dec 9, 2008 10:08 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

7 for 16 is fine.

I can live with it. I can’t live with 3/9, because Noc is a liablity in so many other areas. If Noc’s shot isn’t falling, he doesn’t help us.

Just man to man, don’t give an inch D. Duhon should not have been close to getting a triple double.

Derrick is the man but his D needs a lot of work.

Glad we won, but if we have to beat teams like the Knicks at the last second then we are in trouble.

by C Smoove on Dec 9, 2008 9:49 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

No he doesn't.

His defensive game is bad, even when he is trying. He gets saved because he is a better athlete than his competition. He does not take plays off, or coast, play when he feels like it…he is just not very good on that side of the ball.

Its okay to say that, because of his size and athleticism, with effort, he will get much better…as long as he buys into it.

He decided to defend Duhon the last couple of possessions and stayed in front of him (sorta)

and then swatted his shot (the athleticism to which you referred). His D needs a lot of improvement, and I agree even when he’s trying its less than ideal, but he’s clearly coasting when he does stuff like the Duhon block, the Miller block, when he decides to really get into a defensive mentality.

by fundamentallysound on Dec 9, 2008 9:59 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

He's a 20 year old rookie

His defense was always going to suck. Even a physical specimen like LeBron was coasting on D before he decided to take the game seriously. You’re right, he does rely on his size at the PG spot to get him out of some jams, but overall he’s pretty bad with his feet, doesn’t close out on shooters, stuff that a coaching staff, you know, might want to correct, or teach…..or something. Oh wait, learning is optional in the Bulls organization, you just need passion!

What do you see in a 14 ppg with no jumper that makes one think he will be better than a 26ppg\ 12rpg guy? Is there some kind of magic formula that tells you 14 > 26??

He ran the pick and roll

exactly how I wish the Bulls would do with Rose. Could be a product of the system, Rose’ inability to successfully fight through the screener, late rotation, or he could be that good. After watching Duhon chuck those bad late threes and get stuffed late, i say it’s the system.

Two differences

1) The Knicks screeners roll almost all the time.

2) Everybody not with the ball and not setting a screen on the floor are all three point threats.

Actually, it’s three differences because D’Antoni also knows how to put his players in positions to deliver in the areas he knows they can perform.

That was Shankovski or whatever his name is.That was stupid.

General manager needs the ability to foretell what is going to happen tomorrow, next week, next month, and next year. And to have the ability afterwards to explain why it didn't happen.

In yfBB told you so news:

Noah got just 19 minutes (still not enough, but meh some is better than none) and had 5 rebs, a steal, and 4 (!) blocked shots to go along with 3 points on 100% shooting (the dunk). The kid can play, just let him already.

Awesome game

Couple things i saw..and feel like venting about..

- Gordon and Hughes are both chukers, but BG’s selection might be the worst
- Didn’t Noc cut his hair? WTF? Speaking bout hair, the hair is gonna be an awesome coach IMO..still got a lil ways to go, but I’m gonna start growing my hair out, Vinny style
- Rose wasn’t the best, but he kept the tempo right
- Noah looked good (off and on)
- Did TT play tonight?
- Gooden Rocks. Sorry, but he atleast gives me effort and i’m sold on that.
- I love the announcers..never had the pleasure of listening to comcast till this season, but giving Larry Hughes a nickname like “Big shot” is uncalled for an detrimental to my health.
- Larry Hughes: Six man of the year? (granted he keeps this up)

Yeah...

just so long as it’s a three guard rotation, and not a three guard lineup, I’m happy.

Not a big Hughes fan

But he’s had a pretty good run over the last few games.

Derrick will be in the Hall of Fame someday, but Duhon ate his lunch for most of the game.

16 points, 14 assists and 9 boards. Give him the credit he earned. That was an impressive performance. Vinnie should be embarrased that the Knicks almost pulled this game out due to his asinine matchups. There is no way Tyrus could not have kept them more at bay with his rebounding and shot blocking ability. So if VDN takes a bow for this win, somebody should kick him right in the ass.

yep

regardless of “system” or not, Duhon played pretty well (until the very end) and gave Rose all he could handle

by NormVanBeer on Dec 9, 2008 10:08 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Well this isn't entirely fair...

Rose was much more concerned with organizing the team and letting the other players get involved. Duhon doesnt have a Deng or Gordon or Hughes or Gooden even who would dominate the ball once given. Aside from Harrington, it was Duhon’s will.

Anybody see the intro?

Did the crowd “booo” duhon or show him love?

Don't feel like a real recap

just a couple of bad teams trading baskets. Glad it was a win. This upcoming schedule is arse.

Gordon had his worst game of the year, yuck. Rose didn’t do much, and was really bad defensively. Noah played decent, Gooden had a good game, Deng went missing for a while, Tyrus DNP, Gray had a great first few possessions then the pace made him a non-factor, Hughes may get a trade suitor at this rate, switching on screens was a bad idea but nothing else worked much either on defense…

Do you think maybe

Derrick was a little passive last night because of his arm? I’m not trying to make excuses for him but it could have been a factor in his play.

by sue369 on Dec 10, 2008 7:20 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

It's a possiblity

But Duhon pretty much had his way on offense, running the pick and roll like Stockton. I know Derrick’s gotta be tired by now, but there has to be more effort on defense. Offensively he still alternates between amazing and passivity, allowing Hughes and Gordon to chuck us to victory. Is it coaching, or is he gassed and weary from the pressure of running the team? I know I’d feel a lot better if we had a real damn coach.

What do you see in a 14 ppg with no jumper that makes one think he will be better than a 26ppg\ 12rpg guy? Is there some kind of magic formula that tells you 14 > 26??

Gordon wasn't great, but this was not his worst game...

he had some that were much worse on the west coast swing.

I thought this would have been a fun game to see TT play in. I have no idea why he isn’t playing AT ALL.

Would have loved to see Thabo guard Duhon… REMEMBER THABO, VINNY? I don’t think you do…

Another shallow victory. Another empty feeling. for those fans who still believe

that Tyrus and Thabo to a lesser extent can develop into sold NBA players if the Bulls coaches weren’t so terrified of the possibility of the Bulls losing a handful of extra games as they learn on the court.

What is the point of giving Hughes all those minutes if he is not going to be here when Rose hits his stride. The same is true of Gooden, whose offense and rebounding were as good tonight as his defense was bad.

Noce has been in a funk lately, which has hurt both his offense and defense, but apparently Vinnie suffers from Heightaphobia, which is a fear of seeing tall men in shorts during basketball games.

While I am disappointed as much as anyone with Noce’s regression lately, if we look at the Plus/Minus stats for the entire season, the numbers may surprise some fans.
Not including tonight’s game they look like this:
Nocioni +44
Hinrich +26
Hunter -2
Gray -6
Noah -13
Thabo -18
Gordon -22
Deng -28
Hughes -29
Tyrus -60 unfortunately
Rose -75
Gooden -88
I realize this is only one statistic, but I think it demonstrates that Rose and Gooden, despite their offensive skills, need to improve on the other end. I have no doubt that Derrick, with experience, will vastly improve while I have my doubts about Gooden.
Apparently, Noce must be doing something right since he is the only active Bulls player with a positve number.

worst.stat.ever.

larry has that system down to a science. Especially with the way the economy is….big wigs like larry coming in dressed in their mink coats and 24k gold cigarrete holders with pockets lined with coke make for a large draw during shift changes.

Over a full season it does measure a players on court performance to some degree.

Otherwise, it wouldn’t be tracked. I agree it is not the best stat ever, but why do you say it’s the worst one? What is your basis? It seems the superstars are almost always the leaders in this statistic. Is that just a coincidence? So far this season LeBron is +285, Garnett +241, Kobe +217, Paul +173. Kirelinko is +130 while Boozer, not noted for his defensive prowess is -3.

If you look at On court/Off court performances, than Noce has by far the biggest positive other than Kirk. This stat measures how a team performs when the player is on court vs. how the team does while he is on the bench. I realize the plus minus is only as good as the other players you are surrounded with which explains a lot of Rose’s negatives.
Noce is +13.5
Hinrich +13
Gordon +4
Hunt er +1.7
Noah +0.5
Deng +0.3
Thabo -2.5
Hughes -2.9
Tyrus -7.6
Rose -10.7
Gooden -12.1

the knicks suck

i’ve always hated them. but seriously, my bf asked me who their best player was and i couldn’t even answer. we should have crushed them. glad to see duhon bricking 3’s at the end of the game for someone else…

glad to see noah out there, but tt should have been also. or can they not play in the same game? at least vdn realized lumbering gray was not the answer.

Their 3 best players to start the season don’t play for this team. I guess you could say either David Lee or Duhon is their best player…….which is pretty awful.

and would’ve won this game if they hit threes at their usual rate. All this while Duhon’s looking like a legit starting PG.

Imagine where we could be with a real coach.

yeah, but they've only beaten 2 good teams

utah and detroit, both at home. our schedule has been a lot more difficult. they’ve only won twice on the road, against memphis and washington (we’ve only won 3, but one was a notoriously tough at home utah team, albeit depleted). they haven’t had more than 2 road games in a row yet (i think they’re now starting a trip). they gotta do more than beat down on was and okc to impress me.

and i express the same thing as ozzie… i really loathe the knicks.
