Steve Kerr Should Pull a Kevin McHale/Jerry West. . .
. . .and help out his old team:
Trade Scenario 1
Bulls get: Amare Stoudemire
Suns Get: Drew Gooden, Andres Nocioni
Trade Scenario 2
Bulls Get: Amare Stoudemire
Suns Get: Larry Hughes, Tyrus Thomas
Trade Scenario 3
Bulls Get: Amare Stoudemire
Suns Get: Drew Gooden, Tyrus Thomas, Joakim Noah, Thabo Sefolosha, & Cedric Simmons
All 3 of these scenarios are obvious pipe dreams. So were the Kevin Garnet & Pau Gasol power-shifting deals. In both cases, you had execs doing favors for their former playing teams, (McHale almost certainly got a ring for the Garnett deal & West tried his damndest at getting one by convincing the Grizz to give Gasol to the Lakers).
As was the case with both Garnett & Gasol, Stoudemire is beginning to chirp about his unhappiness in his current uniform. Steve Kerr has already suggested some drastic changes would be made. With 3 coaches already losing their jobs this year, firing Porter wouldn't be seen as too drastic. Trading Amare seems like the shake up that would send a message. Kerr has already unloaded one disgruntled Sun (Shawn Marion), so why would he hesitate this time around?
All it takes for this deal to go through is for PAX to invite Kerr over to Harry Caray's to celebrate the rings they've helped deliver to the Windy City. A couple of bottles of Jack Daniels later, PAX is throwing out trade proposals, seeing if Kerr is blitzed enuff to say yes. Next thing you know, there's a pressconference scheduled & Amare has a Bulls jersey, and Derrick Rose has a new PnR buddy, & the Bulls live happily everyafter. . .
. . .I can dream, can't I?

Amare in 2010-2011
It would be a steal if we could somehow trade for Amare before the big free agent class hits in two years. To me, Amare seems like the best fit to compliment Rose of all the big names that will be available. I’d take him over Bosh in a heartbeat.
I'll take Bosh.
When debating two similar great players, give me the guy with the good attitude.

You want another "good character" guy?
Look where that got us to right now. The guy wants to be the #1 scoring option. He wants the freaking ball because he knows he’s the best option on that team. It’s not like he’s Larry Hughes or something.
Chris Bosh is all those things you described
plus he’s a great teammate. I really could care less about only taking guys with good charater. I’m just saying that they have similar numbers, so i’d rather go with the guy that wasn’t bitching and moaning all the time. Plus Bosh is younger and hasn’t had a major knee surgery.

Bosh is also the better rebounder and defender.
Bosh is simply the better basketball player. Amare is more athletic, and probably has more “upside” if he could commit to learning certain things, but right now, Bosh is better.
That being said, I’d take Amare in a heart beat.

Yeah
I don’t know….they both are pretty good. I think I’d take Amare with the slightest of margins, because of that additional athleticism.
Bosh is a great player, I’d take both. Bosh is the better defender more because he tries on that end….Stoudemire is more explosive offensively and has all the skills to be a solid defender forever. Amare also is a shade better on the break and in the half court (both two things that would work wonders with Rose)….
Amare simply dominates.
I like Bosh though as the 1A consolation prize. Bosh wins a bit more kudos for being a better team player/leader. It’s very very close, but Stoudemire’s a bit stronger so that’s why I give him the slight edge.
Well
I still would take Amare with a hair over CB4….both are good, Bosh is playing better at present, but Amare’s been better in the past and both are young.
Still it’s not happening either way. If Amare’s getting traded the Bulls likely would be amongst the last teams to benefit/be able to make a trade with the Suns.
Bulls get Amare...
…Suns get anyone not named Derrick Rose. Yep, works for me.
(But of we’re really dreaming here, I’d much rather have Bosh…)
Lots of Bosh-love here. . .
You guys really believe he’s better than Amare? I don’t know, I’ve seen a lot more from STAT. This is the guy who averaged 35pts 15reb. against the Spurs in the playoffs a few years back. Bosh doesn’t have Amare’s mean streak either. Yeah, his attitude sucks. But I think he’s by far the superior player. . .
I would take either one and do cartwheels.
But, don’t forget Amare averaged those numbers in a Mike D’anotoni offense. The same offense that has Chris Duhon looking like John Stockton. I know that Amare’s a good player, but I would personally rather have Bosh.

Completely Understandable. . .
While it’s true that D’Antoni’s Run N Gun methods juiced Amare’s numbers a bit, I’m more focused on how he’s used. Amare proved he could be an offensive workhorse. He’s also proved his pick n roll/ pick n pop game is tops in the league. Just what DRose needs. . .
Yea, no question.
And we’d immediately become the go-to team for ESPN and TNT. D Rose and Amare would be the most exciting show around. Wow, I think I just changed my mind mid-sentence.

Didn't Amare recently say
That he wants to be “the guy” on a team. Kind of like what Shawn Marion said when he said he’d rather be the man on a crappy team than a key contributor on a championship team? I think something messes with a guy’s head when they go to Phoenix. I doubt Amare would want to share with Rose, even though he seems to be doing ok with Nash.
Maybe
we can trade Tyrus, Hughes and Gooden for McHale and West. That would provide the inside presence and the big two guard we need. Lineup is Rose, West, McHale, Deng and Noah. Championships for years to come, and just as realistic as getting Amare for anyone not named Rose on our team.
I think this trade would be much more likeler to happen

Hinrich+gooden maybe even throw in a couple of first round picks tyrus thomas value is very low aroung the nba
On what planet would that happen? Certainly not here on earth.

Poor man's Steve Nash + Homeless drunk version of Amare Stoudemire
It’s genius!

Kirk Hinrich:
No an ‘anything’ Steve Nash.
"You remember the first time you picked up a basketball video game and you had no idea how to run plays, so you just gave the ball to your shooter and you ran around the court aimlessly until a defender was far enough away and then you jacked up a shot? THAT IS LARRY HUGHES!"

as a condition of any deal that nets Amare
the Bulls would have to take on Diaw’s awful contract. That’s one of the things I think the Suns would absolutely demand if they were actually considering shipping STAT out.

An out of shape tweener forward who's had exactly 1 good season?
I’d rather have Noce’s declining contract, at least you get some fist pump mileage out of him.

if we get Amare out of it, taking Diaw is well worth it.
if we got STAT we wouldn’t need a 2010 plan anymore. He’s about as good as anyone can hope to net in 2010.

I seriously doubt Amare is going to be traded
He’s the only starter under the age of 30 I think….why would they let him go for our crap assets? Why not just hope Shaq retires and go after a big FA themselves?

I agree that they won't deal him
my point was just that if we have to take Diaw back (hypothetically) to get Amare. You do that every time and twice on Sundays.
by fundamentallysound on Dec 7, 2008 8:15 PM CST up reply actions
I agree
they wouldn’t let him go for crap, without giving up some of their crap in return. At least Diaw wouldn’t be a total non-factor, he does do some things (i.e. he wouldn’t be classified as a “throw in”)…so in that instance, I’d be fine with it.
Kerr is quickly becoming as bad a GM as Kevin McHale
The Shaq trade was disastrous, and chasing off D’Antoni for Terry Porter was just insanely stupid. They’re a team full of terrible defenders, so I don’t know why he thought he could get them to play any D. All he’s done is mess up their offense.
Why resort to name calling?

If we did... this...
I would be thrilled….
And we would start Rose, Gordon, Deng, Amare, and Noah… and we would win a ton of games… but our defense would be terrible… but we would be damn fun to watch…
But I don't think we'd get him
Without including Deng, and Deng would have to continue his current hot streak till the break, and then Pax won’t want to trade him…
So this will never happen…
GIVE US YOUR SUPERSTAR AND WE GIVE AS MANY LOSERS AS YOU WANT!
Great.. I like that.
Nice dream
Of course I’d like all 3 to some extent, but #3 worries me if Stoudemire’s not going to resign after 2009-2010….that’s a lot to give up for a team that likely still won’t quite be championship worthy….wonder if we could resign Gordon because then and only then we might have a chance….
It would look like: Rose-Gordon-Deng-Nocioni-Stoudemire as our starting 5….stuck playing small ball all the time, but I think this lineup looks better than Rose-Gordon-Deng-Stoudemire-Gray…..
We’d need some bigs…..we’d make the playoffs easily, but no championships with this lineup unless Noc can consistently get to his 2005/2006 self and I haven’t seen enough evidence of that….I discounted a lot of last year given the Boylan crap.
Bosh
Bosh is averaging like 28 a game. And plays defense and rebounds. Something Amare has absolutely interest in doing. I don’t care about his good character, he is just a better all around players. And yes, Amare had drastic knee surgery already.
Defense wins championships not athleticism.
I think good players win championships.
If Amare were lightyears ahead on offense, sure… I mean, no one is comparing him to David Lee even though Lee probably plays better defense.
Get the best player
Viva la nuance! Reading comprehension rules!!!
More likely result of your meeting would be
Paxs giving the Suns “Derrick Rose” for a 2nd round draft pick and some future assets. Paxs like stock piling worthless assets.
The GM who screwed up the most for the longest time period in the partnership (Mchale) is positioning himself for future employment with former teammate (Danny A.)
once Wolves mgmt fires Kevin McHale. I believe Pax is the McHale in our situation and will get the “ax” before Kerr.
"All it takes for this deal to go through is for PAX to invite Kerr over to Harry Caray’s to celebrate the rings they’ve helped deliver to the Windy City. A couple of bottles of Jack Daniels later "
man up!
