Trade with the Spurs?

Star-divide

I was watching NBA Fastbreak last night and they were talking with Ric Bucher. He was saying how San Antonio is looking for a forward that can help out Duncan, when Duncan plays the 5. They want to alieviate Duncan from guarding the smaller/quicker power forwards and picking up cheap fouls. The only name he mentioned was Joe Smith but I thought maybe we can pawn off Noc on them.

So that brings us to this: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=3207~2456~3030~1996~846~866&teams=24~24~24~4~4~4&te=&cash=

Bulls get: Bonner, Udoka, and Kurt Thomas

Spurs get: Noc, Simmons, and Gray

Why we do this: It rids us of Noc and his contract. Udoka can split time between backup 2 and 3. Thomas gets us a serviceable big man who isn't totally terrible. Maybe he winds up being this season's PJ or Antonio for us. Bonner gets us a decent backup center (and someone who's name isn't Gray). All the while, we get a contract off the books at the end of this season and a couple more 2010 expirings.

Why the Spurs do this: It gets them their smallish 4 for when Duncan slides to the 5. Maybe Noc's fake hustle and intensity, and recent (upswing?) of games looks good to Pop. They get another big fundamental center who can come in and spell someone for 5-10 minutes. Simmons is somewhat of a throw-in, but he'll be another big body for their playoff run. Most importantly, this makes the Spurs look like the Argentine National Team-lite, reuniting Noc, Ginobli, and Fabricio. THIS should get Noc back to his old fist-pumping ways!

I didn't crunch the numbers so I don't know how close this gets us to the tax, so that isn't taken into account here.

Fire away! Feel free to tear down my hopes and dreams!

No, because Pop isn’t a friggin’ goof like the Bulls braintrust. Noc wouldn’t even see the floor after one game of watching him lose his man on defense. Pop’s sat far better players than him.

Plus they already have the better Noc: Matt Bonner :)

heh, true

but they play pretty good team defense so maybe the plethora of deficiencies that Noc has on the defensive end can be hidden by the rest of their players

Numbers work

Roughly 8.3 mil of salary in and 10.5 mil out. SAS is about 3 mil under the luxury tax.

The arriving contracts are through 2010 excpet for Udoka. So we’d still have to move someone else to make space for paying Gordon. Perhaps not though if Gooden and Udoka expire that would free around 8 mil in addition to Gordon’s 6 mil to put him in a very healthy contract range.

In a trust with Vinny Del Negro.

I hate

Matt Boner. I just don’t like the man.

Udoka

in 2k9 he is my backup shooting guard. defends well, shoots the 3 ball quite well. Smart player but despite his size not very athletic…..

On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, Bullshooter, and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light....
