yes
given the closeness of the first matchup and the bulls record at home this is a very winnable game.
Gu Bulls!
Give me a win… please!!!

thabo starts
love the starting lineup, keep noc out as long as possible..see how gray does vs howard or it could be noah early

gray
gray needs to foul like that if he gets beat by howard..make him beat us at the line
Dear Thabo,
Make Hedo Turkoglu post up our guards.

hes probably feeling too selfish...
he had already taken 3..rose is weird like that sometimes, and he rarely takes that shot unless a team continually leaves him open from there
So is this what you wanted?
Noc and Hughes instead?
Dont understand why people would complain about what we had out there, we dont have a good team.
What to do, with Larry Hughe?
Thomas has been awful so far
He has completely forgotten he was guarding yet another camping perimeter player in Rashard Lewis.

Doubling Dwight Howard is bad defense
Make him drop 40 on you. He can’t do it.

Really
We have to stop doubling Howard. Make him play a magical post game. He’s not going to do it. His post moves are weak beyond dunking. Their offense crumbles when Howard has to hold the ball and make things happen alone.

Wow, what a difference in playing styles
Orlando actually moving the ball around. Lots of patience. THAT*S how you play basketball! Us, one-on-one. first shot we can take.

It would seem that way
Screwed out of Miami by Riles…
He’s in a pretty good situaton now, though
SVG was a bad coach with the Badgers in his one year in the mid 90's,
so maybe VDN will be a good coach in 10 years. :(

Right
And we want to wait for that?
I think not
amen
and unfortunately…we dont have the players to do that! outside of rose and sometimes gordon….
We can still play like that
Patience and playing actual basketball with screens and movement does not depend on the level of talent. Although it naturally makes it a bit easier…
We should still be better. This comes down to the coach(es).
Woke up late
hungover…looked on online, saw this..freaked out, turned on WGN..and
TODAY IS FRIKIN AWESOME

i like hard fouls by Noc...
honestly that is the way more people should play. I am so sick of seeing these pussy fouls turn into And 1’s.
and i don't mean his foul on Howard because that was a little excessive
but in general

it wont be worth it…at all and i sense less posts the 2nd half. This is a game people actually turn off.
ive watched every game

I thought I heard them talking about excecuting some defensive schemes before the game
But their making it look like there is no way to really counter anything the Magic are doing.

At least tell me there was a play where Derrick Rose made the crowd go “Ah!”
He had an and 1 on some guy
There was an ah but sulking since we didn’t really get better from there
Doug Thonus has been predicting that this Bulls team
would win around 47 games. That is just ridiculous to me. When this team won 49 games a few years back we were in basically every game we played and you always felt as if we had a chance to win. This team is not even close to that good. There’s not one game on the schedule that can be considered a gimme. They could absolutely lose to a team like the Thunder. This team is lost.
I do think the talent is there to win in the upper 40s
but I agree that Doug was always off-base when he was using this year as any type of predictor. He was merely looking at wins and losses in relation to schedule strength, and not how close the games were, or how bad the team looked.
If you squeak out a win against the Clippers, you’re good enough to get blown out by Orlando.

Really? Upper 40's with that front court?
It kinda feels like 40 would be the ceiling for this team. Anything above 45 usually means a better than good team. All we have is a great backcourt and I don’t think that will get us there.
by Juiceboxjerry on Dec 31, 2008 2:30 PM CST up reply actions
We have no defense to get to 47 wins
I thought we could get to 44, but that was when I thought we’d at least put in a consistent defensive effort. No chance we’re doing that now. 35 wins looks like a better target.

Did u see SVG
actually TALK to his team during a time-out!!
You’re allowed to do that??
Someone tell VDN!!
It seems to me he always steps away from
the bench with his arms folded and talks to his ass.
Is it an organizational thing. Nameless used to do that too…
Yep
I don’t watch enough to know for sure, but my perception is that good coaches generally make good use of their timeouts. They hit the ground running, and tell the players what they want to tell them.
Bad coaches call the timeout and then spend a minute thinking and then talk to their team. Or don’t talk to them at all.
De gustibus non est disputandum
Yes, and there is SO much
that needs to be told! I’mjust flabbergasted, jawdropped and awestruck that our “coaches” don’t talk to the players during the TO’s. It’s just extremely basic. I’ve played for some 20 years and coached for four season on youth-level. I always talked to (yelled at) the players during the TO’s! I don’t understand it on any level.
Ok, so this guy has no coaching exp, but COME ON! And he has asses, as well!
I’m :O
Noc will finish high assist man?
then Paxs will say… I’m keeping Noc to give him minutes also as 3rd pg.

Barring a good trade
I wonder if this VDN Bulls team is a .500 club by season end? Currently it looks like we might be the same as last year give or take a few games.
man up!
If we get a real coach?
The sky is the limit!

Sometimes I imagine this is how Tyrus probably thinks too. Instead of seeing an opportunity, he sees everything as an insult – a reason to pout, bitch, and half-ass it.
Which is why he routinely gets his ass kicked. He’s a pussy and he doesn’t deserve better than what he gets.

it was garbage time, I’d take it as an insult too. This organization has been insulting him for years. He doesn’t help himself, and he’s immature, but still.

be realistic
what has ty thomas done in his time here to earn anything about garbage time? he’s not some veteran that is being insulted by our organization. hes a young player who has been a bust thus far, and should be using every minute on the court to prove he can play. what you are saying is ridiculous
everyone sucks!

Was the flagging really necessary? I've seen quite a bit worse said here, and routinely.
And no, I don’t think it’s much of an insult at this point.
Tyrus is a young player who hasn’t exactly built a resume of success. He’s in no way established that he’s entitled to, well… pretty much anything.
What, “but still” is there after saying that “he doesn’t help himself”. He routinely “doesn’t help himself”. He “doesn’t help himself” at pretty much every opportunity.
I’m all for being player friendly, but it’s not too much to ask of a guy to help himself and it’s reasonable to get frustrated with someone when they continually won’t.
De gustibus non est disputandum
well in terms of the reasoning behind your frustration
sure. I disagree with the magnitude of what’s his responsibility, but sure.
as far as the ‘flagging’, email me if you’re confused as to why it was necessary.

Not just my frustration.
I mean jeez, even if you completely discount the obvious frustration Pax, Skiles, VDN (despite their faults, they have valid views), and that nameless assclown (whose opinion I don’t value at all) showed, this is pretty much the same stuff that had Rose and damn near every veteran on the team practically screaming on court at Tyrus earlier in the year. The only difference tonight is that they just weren’t out there. But don’t think that they didn’t see it, and don’t think it doesn’t make THEM think he’s a total clown. Nobody wants their teammates to act like losers.
Which is exactly what Thomas has consistently acted like.
And yeah, it’s pretty important. Tyrus had been more productive of late, but the truth of the matter is he’d have to be damn near an all-star to make fans, coaches and teammates consider that sort of stuff minor. Success breeds forgiveness. Being slightly above average with a crummy attitude makes you damn near useless.

i don't get your specific complaints
who’s yelling at Thomas and when? Is this really about today’s game where he doesn’t post up? I don’t know what you’re referring to about them yelling at him on the court.

yes.
It started because someone ranted that Tyrus wasn’t posting up in the last minute of the game. I was commenting on that observation. No, I didn’t observe it myself.
If I’m way off base on that particular instance please fill me (and ’oakdale’) in.

I was going to reference something with TT that happened today but then
saw your comment above that you didnt watch the game, sooo I figured it was a waste of time since you didn’t see it…
fair enough.

OK, specifics?
I’ll go back and link if you want them, but
1. Going back to high school, a couple instances of Tyrus getting mad and quitting or threatening to quit his team when things didn’t go his way. Add interviews with his college teammates and coach talking about how he’s generally a moody and remote guy.
2. Skiles “he never runs” blowup.
3. Tyrus’ pre-meditated practice blowoff last year.
4. The game earlier this year when he was loafing around early in the game. Various folks noted In the gamethread how his body language looked awful before the tip, and how Rose and other players were yelling at him to make cuts, set screens, etc.
5. A similar game with similar actions by his teammates a few games later (it was the one he threw the ball into about the fifth row).
6. His getting kicked out of practice at least once by VDN for some sort of sarcastic remark.
7. VDN’s remarks a few games ago about not getting defensive help from his bigs (seemed obvious in the particular context he was talking about Tyrus).
8. I’m also thinking about Nocioni and Gooden’s quotes which you hammered on a couple days ago. It’s true they’re not really in a position to talk from our perspective, but if you look at how the NBA works, rather than our sense of fairness, you don’t want to have fairly established, veteran players saying the young guys aren’t trying (Noc) or very good at defense (Gooden). That’s an open indictment on your teammates.
Is that specific enough. A couple of things can be discounted, perhaps, but if you put the whole thing together, it paints a consistent picture of Thomas as a pretty frustrating guy to work with.
De gustibus non est disputandum
I was focusing on on-court poutiness
I don’t know the game you’re talking about where he’s refusing to set screens and move, honestly. I consider the ‘running the floor’ issues to be more spaciness than poutiness.
I know he’s immature and moody and sometimes a jerk off the court. Wish he wasn’t. But I always thought he was committed to himself (at least) and wasn’t to the point where he’s openly disrupting the team on the court in a pout.
I agree that such behavior is bad. And if you see a pattern of it, it’s bad. But I don’t.
So back to this specific instance: no I didn’t see the game. I do see he was subbed in for the darling Noc at 5:13 left down 104-82. I can see how he’d take that as an insult, and be justified in that belief. Noc should be the mop-up man. He’s got the talent and personality for it :-p

None of those issues I pointed out were "off the court" issues. They were things that happened in games and practicing with his teams
How about the various times when he’s been “working hard on his jumper” by shooting his warmup shots left-handed.
Really and truly, I’m sort of surprised a guy like Nocioni or PJ Brown hasn’t gone apeshit crazy and tried to kill him.

did anyone see the coaches huddle in the last time out?
They all stood around like they were at a shot gun wedding. Nobody wants to be there. Nobody talks. If I was an outsider I would have no idea which guy was the coach.

My WGN feed was really messed up throughout the game
But from the little bit I saw, I’m pretty glad I wasn’t able to watch it.
