Forbes Magazine Annual Business of Basketball
Bulls listed as the 3rd most valuable NBA team, right behind the Knicks and the Lakers. The total team value is estimated at 504 million dollars, with a revenue of 165 million. There's a profile for every team, Paul Allen's Blazers had the highest revenue jump (21% increase) last year.

So, according to that, at the end of the day the Bulls made more money
than any other NBA franchise. Yet, Reinsdorf still couldn’t get us a halfway decent coach. He’s such a cheap bastard. And I don’t think that spending money equates to wins or anything, but it’s apparent that he just does not want to shell out the coin for coaching. Now we’re stuck looking at Vinny’s hair for the foreseeable future.

Fascinating stuff.
I didn’t look at every team, but the lowest average ticket price I saw was $29, for New Orleans. If the Bulls were that cheap, I’d go to a lot more games. Most teams seem to be in the $50 range, so the Bulls aren’t that much more expensive that what seems to be the norm, but still.

I wonder how much taxes play into it.
I wasn’t really complaining. At least we’re not the Lakers. I mean, Reinsdorf has to make his money somehow, and I don’t begrudge him his profits.

They still don't seem to have a problem selling out the games

"Wins to Player Cost Ratio" is interesting, too.
For the three previous years, the Bulls were getting more than the league average for their money. For this year, we’re well below. Thanks to the contracts of Noc, Hinrich, and Hughes: you guys have been great to have.
This article also gives me another chance to pimp the Spurs as a roll model for all things NBA. Their Wins to Player Cost Ratio has been sick for the last decade. This is why you don’t overpay role players.

A role model, even.
Matt, is there any way we can get an “edit” function on these posts (or does it exist somewhere I’m unaware of)?

How do we make the businessman a bigger fan of winning?
The Chairman is once again the most profitable owner in the league, but he won’t break the bank to pay his players that get him there(Ben Gordon).
We’ll recycle the roster again over the next two years to ensure the profit stream. Maybe we can lease the General Manager duties to an automaker. What the heck right?
In a trust with Vinny Del Negro.

I actually don't think
that he should “break the bank” unless it’s for someone of superstar status…however, with that being said, making your player essentially grovel for two off-seasons only to get nothing in return is absolutely ridiculous.

Ben Wallace already broke the bank

A couple interesting things
If you look at the Forbes numbers, their valuations don’t include debt. So if you factor it in, you get some pretty big differences.
I’d be interested to see non-player expenses’ relationship to income. The Bulls made about $165M and posted $55M in operating income. They spent $67M on player salaries, so their remaining expenses were about $43M. I wonder how that compares to other teams, but I don’t feel like tallying everything up by hand.
