you fail.
"You remember the first time you picked up a basketball video game and you had no idea how to run plays, so you just gave the ball to your shooter and you ran around the court aimlessly until a defender was far enough away and then you jacked up a shot? THAT IS LARRY HUGHES!"

Positives – Thabo’s playing time, Gordon’s shots, Rose’s tenacity
Negatives – Allowing second-chance points, leaving Joe Johnson open, and it seems people are not liking Nocioni more than usual

That is the problem
He is playing half, but now he’s in the NBA. He was an oversized, fast PF in college. He’s a very weak center with no post game in the pros. His only offense is going to come when he’s first up the court and can downtown on a mismatch.

But he's never the first up or down

If he was actually a full-time hustle player
(instead of just the first 2 minutes he’s on the court), he’d be a legit NBA big man.

I think this is just an off year ...
he didn’t come in ready to work, he’s out of shape, etc. etc., and next year he’ll be back strong.
I really do feel that way. I know, seems odd … but … yeah.
"You remember the first time you picked up a basketball video game and you had no idea how to run plays, so you just gave the ball to your shooter and you ran around the court aimlessly until a defender was far enough away and then you jacked up a shot? THAT IS LARRY HUGHES!"

Play Rose, Gordon, Thabo, Tyrus, and Noah
That’s their best hope for a good defensive lineup. They need rebounding to the maximus to win the game. It is absolutely pathetic to shoot 62% from the field and be LOSING by 5.

Both of them are much more qualified than he is. It’s always frustrating to have to show your boss what to do.

I'm no saying they're not an upgrade
But I’d rather have Jeff Van Gundy.
He’s a good defensive coach and he seems to be a really funny guy.
and he has NO hair! Would be a nice change…

No thanks to JVG,
I would hate to see Rose walking the ball up the court every possession for a set play called from the sidelines that starts with 15 seconds gone from the shot clock.

Jeff Van Gundy. And SOON! Before we ruin Rose

Van Gundy is a better option than a lot of people.
Even we can just go to the bench and promote Del or Bickerstaff..

Skiles and Boylan
did the dame thing when they called a timeout. A lot of coaches do that.

not at all pathetic
but far from respectable.
"He's not scared to take that shot," Rose said. "That's Larry. No matter what, I don't need to remind him to shoot. He's willing to shoot any time."

it doesn’t matter how good our offense is, if we don’t play any defense, its the other teams game to lose.

Look at the bright side:
I had Joe Johnson starting on my fantasy team!

What does VDN bring to the table?
He’s obviously not adept at X’s-and-O’s, since it’s hard to tell if this team actually runs plays. He’s obviously not a great motivator, since this is a horrible defensive team (and defense is in large part effort). Other than great hair, what does he contribute?

I may have to watch some games from the past couple of years
to remind myself why Noc plays in the NBA.

In the Miami game yesterday
Whoever the female announcer was commented on his tough scrappy defense every time he was near the ball.
His “tough, scrappy defense” translates to letting the other guy score or blatantly fouling him and whining to the ref when he blows the whistle.

Noc has really regressed the past few years
He’s become completely undisciplined as a player. He just runs around on offense and throws up threes, and wanders around the court aimlessly on defense. He was never a good man-to-man defender, but he usually at least tried to stay with his man a few years ago. And I think I can count on one hand the number of times this season he’s taken the ball to the hole. I can’t really blame him though, since he plays the same minutes no matter how poorly he plays. Hell, if I could be lazy at work and face no consequences, I’d probably do the same thing.

It seemed like the Bulls would always beat the Hawks. Yet the Hawks had so much damn talent. I guess they finally put it together. But they seem like a 2nd round and out team.

by ImmanuelKant on Dec 27, 2008 8:55 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
They haven't put it together.
We hung like 120 on them! More Thabo and less Hughes [and more anyone/less Noc], and we win this game.
They’re just not very consistent.

damn, I saw a different game
No defense, Rose missing free throws, can’t hit outside the line with only 12 3pt baskets for the year, Bibby didn’t even guard him hard. Atlanta has no strong D in the paint, a team that will he will be shut down in now in most towns. Both Rose and Gordon missing shots down the end of the game, not one post for your high scorers, we all love the high scorers, their misses or turnovers don’t matter, all support for scorer’s. But the bitch is defense too, now you all hate Hughes, remember, he took his assignment to play defense on a guy almost 3 inches taller and 100lbs more in weight and got three early fouls and a bad call and technical for someone that Gooden would be on. No understanding. He is all we have that can pay defense. Take the defensive side of the board, and ask why the coaches play him the third and fourth quarter, but don’t let him get hot for shooting. Take his eleven year average and you will see 30 and 40 point games within the last 24 months in Cleveland and playing the point thru the Eastern conference all the way. Take Rose minutes versus Hughes, same FG points, take Rose versus Hughes on 3 pt games, Hughes has 28 made this year vs Rose 12 and half the minutes and a higher percentage? Hughes, chucker???? , then turnovers only 23, versus 80 for Rose and 75 for Gordon, the minutes are doubled, so hope you can figure the math. The other players have a way higher percentage. Points for the year, Rose 500, Hughes 260, time 1050 minutes Rose, 570 Hughes. Quite frankly when it comes to everything about defense, when you look at Steals of 29 over Rose and Gordon, you look at turnovers 23, versus 80 and 75 for Gordon and Rose. Don’t bitch about defense, but bitch about Hughes, you can’t read stats, half the time, some numbers higher with half a game? Some percentages higher? We are paying him 15 and 17 million to 2010, I would take the D and put the man on the court. Remember winning the start of the season? Plus, higher free throw shooter also. Only thing is lower is assist, but when your playing third and fourth quarter D, thats what you get. Nothing to trade but Rose, Washington wants Hughes as does a couple other teams, but we the Bulls have not one other player that doesn’t have a contract problem or injury. You think its painful watching, think how painful it is to play for this team, these guys want out of this franchise. Noah a bust, Deng, Gooden hurt, Gordon contact problems, can’t hit the pressure shot, so everybody is lining up for Hughes and Tyrus and Nocioni, NOPE. Problem is one thing, Rose filled our seats with 40 plus minutes, and will be toasted by January, when Lebron James is limited to around 35 to be decent and have his legs all year (and a monster body) and the real problem, the bulls team makes $$$$$, so expect the same, over and over. Don’t worry about the contracts, because six world championships give you the second in attendance in the league a dozen years later, so why sweat it when your the owner? Rose is the future, but how old will he be before injuries, minutes and flop draft picks from poor records accomplishes anything.
They just make a move each year to look like your trying, then collect the money. The way it is, the way it will remain no matter who you play with this squad and nothing to trade or no interest from anyone. Players want out, even Dikembe Mutumbo who is 43 will be back in 2 weeks, blow Gray or Noah off the court, has seven teams want him, Boston and Lakers probably will get him, nobody wants anyone on this team, would you? Don’t see any interest for Gray or Noah from seven teams. Wait two weeks, he is on the court at 43.

fine...
Listen. the Larry love is fine. But you can’t doubt that the team is a lot worse on both ends of the court when him (&/or Noc) are on the floor. He has a few freak games every year where he shoots .450 and above, but it’s never consistent enough. This contract is the result of half a year of freak games that made Washington believe that Hughes is a decent off guard…
