GETTING SOME THUNDER!

How about this trade idea?

Nocioni for any one of these: Chris Wilcox, Nick Collison or Joe Smith.

What the Bulls get: We get to choose between getting strong rebounders and above average big men defenders in Wilcox and Collison or a nice mix of reliable offense and solid defense in Joe Smith.

What OKC gets: A three point shooting wing player who complements the driving penchant of Durant and Westbrook. Also, a possible mentor for Jeff Green.

Why OKC would do it: They've got a major glut at the pf and center positions. Wilcox, Collison and Joe Smith are veterans who are playing to the detriment of the development of young big men like Robert Swift, Johan Petro, Steven Hill and Mohamed Sene. Geez, does any other team have 7 power forward/centers on their roster?

Why the Bulls would do it: Joakim Noah and Aaron Gray. Those are Chicago's only 2 centers and one of them is out of shape, the other is too slow to log major minutes. Adding a veteran to the mix while keeping Gooden around for the year could help keep the Bulls' front line from being overwhelmed too much and could ensure a low seed in this year's playoffs.

I actually like this idea

Wilcox provides instant energy and rebounding. Collison adds a steady post game and if i remember rite , TT really liked Joe Smith so maybe he would start playing better getting his old mentor/friend back.

I think you then have a log jam at the bigs.

More reasons for Vinny not to play Thomas and Noah.

I feel like the Bulls have been rebuilding for like 10 years......... oh wait they have!

by ImmanuelKant on Dec 21, 2008 10:20 PM CST reply actions

Maybe.

But i think Gray gets shafted by the move and TT and Noah might benefit from the experience of Wilcox or Smith.

by PatBull on Dec 21, 2008 11:32 PM CST up reply actions

Not really

Forget Gray. Is useless.

I like this trade. If we could get Wilcox, I would do it immediately for three motives:

1- Runs faster then Gray and can actually dunk and contest some shots
2- Is cheaper than Nocioni
3- Is contract runs out this year and we could use the money to resign BG

I don't think the Thunder would want

Nocioni’s contract. It seems a team like that would want the flexibility of not having a huge and terrible contract.

This.

I don’t see them doing it, every move Presti’s made so far has been slash payroll/get young talent-type moves.

"You remember the first time you picked up a basketball video game and you had no idea how to run plays, so you just gave the ball to your shooter and you ran around the court aimlessly until a defender was far enough away and then you jacked up a shot? THAT IS LARRY HUGHES!"

Right

I don’t see them taking Noc over Wilcox or Collison, not with that contract. But they’ll look to move some of those players, problem is the bulls have not much to offer them. Hughes maybe, but it’s a stretch. no ok, forget i said that. I’d take Wilcox or Collison though, get rid of Gooden, start Tyrus and have this player back him up, play at the 5 even. Not sure the team gets better, but at least it gets Tyrus more minutes. But they wouldn’t take Gooden with too many big men already, maybe involve another team?

Bigger Purpose moves

If your gonna drop Noc or anyone else on the Bulls the reason has to be getting rid of bad players or clearing cap space. Paxson is not in the buying mode right now, he has too much junk on the roster he needs cleared… Kirk Ty Noah Gooden Larry….. so when purposing a trade like this why would Pax do it. If you want Noc off the roster and the money works out in the Bulls favor this trade is fine. But any of those guys won’t be a short term fix to a team that is going to have to go small to win games.

All these trades are more or less salary dumps

Wilcox and Smith are expiring, Collison is signed longer, altho cheaper and shorter than Noc. Not sure they’d be too motivated to do these. Perhaps Collison if we sweeten it some how.

Trade Nocioni for expiring contracts and nothing else.

If you’re hoping for a viable player, you’ll be waiting awhile.

Even to get expirings for Noc the Bulls would likely have to throw something else in

His recent hot shooting may make him a little more appealing, but as Paxson’s already demonstrated with Hughes, we shouldn’t hope the organization sees a hot streak as an opportunity to move hot shit.

Noc for Marbury Now!

Thunder are bringing in Kristic, or that’s the word. They have to make a move to open up a spot for him. If they buyout Smith the Bulls should just pick him up for the remainder of the year.

I miss Joe Smith

He was a solid all around player. This team could really use him too. Obviously Gooden is more valuable just because of his youth and his expiring contract, but simply as a player I’d take Smith over Gooden. At least Smith isn’t a sieve on defense.

He was very good

but he had his best (half) season practically when he was here. I wouldn’t expect that to necessarily continue if the Bulls re-acquired him.

Gooden is a better rebounder

and Joe

actually wanted to play (and win) in Chicago…

"He's not scared to take that shot," Rose said. "That's Larry. No matter what, I don't need to remind him to shoot. He's willing to shoot any time."

Collison is the only guy worth adding

but what’s the point? There are already enough problems spreading minutes around. Those expecting Aaron Gray to be benched will be very surprised. He’ll still start and play 10 minutes. Collison (or whoever they’d get) would just be pulling from Gooden, TT, and Noah. It’s also worth noting that none of 3 can really play center, with Collison coming the closest.
