Rose

Are we sure Rose is a point guard, and not just a guard who plays the 1 spot, like tony parker?

by TheMoon on Dec 20, 2008 8:37 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

If you've seen him play

He’s looking to make the people around him better first and foremost.

He runs the offense but a lot of the times, he scores at will cause it comes easy for him

by Option27 on Dec 20, 2008 8:41 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

People say that a lot, but really, I have not seen him play a good POINT GUARD game since that game in Philly (actually, that was a great PG game). Most of the time he scores and gets some assists, but so does tony parker.

by TheMoon on Dec 20, 2008 8:47 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Assists...

The only assists i see rose making is when Noc or Gordon are open for 3 thats all

by materd on Dec 20, 2008 8:48 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

He is a rookie

with a rookie coach…who doesnt know anything about running plays, match ups, or playing our best players yet.

I wouldnt get too carried away about judging how his career will play out.

by reprisal on Dec 20, 2008 8:49 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

he played pretty good against new jersey

what is the definition of “point guard” game. He is 10th in assist among point guards. I’m getting the sense that you only think there are 5 point guards in the nba

by Basketball Smurf on Dec 20, 2008 8:50 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I

just think there is a difference between a creator and an initiator. Paul creates, Billups initiates. The former is a PG, the latter is a probably combo-guard. Again, none of this should be taken as a slight against Rose.

by TheMoon on Dec 20, 2008 8:54 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

You do realize that Chris Paul is in another stratosphere when it comes to PGs

The guy is making 20/10/5 (plus a few steals) look mundane, there are like maybe 5 PGs in the entire history of the NBA that have played as well as Chris Paul right now.

Deron Williams and Chauncey Billups are in offenses that maximize their strengths. The Bulls offfense……

And if Rose is not a PG God like Paul, if he has an impact like Billups that’s just as good. Chauncey isn’t going to wow you with his passes, but he knows how to set up his teammates, knows when to take over and isn’t afraid to ever hit the big shot.

by Ozzie Montana on Dec 21, 2008 12:09 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I think that was his point

He is just saying that rose isnt that pure pg that we all thought he might be, his magic wont be seen through his huge assist stat, but more through the rest of his play. He is saying that rose is probably, at least right now, a scoring combo guard. And i agree.

Rose is really alot like lebron james, but 5 inches smaller, alot better dribbler, and more likeable. The way lebron sets up his teammates, through just his sheer ability to dominate the ball and special court vision is how rose sets up his players. Roses strength lies in his ability to just float for awhile and get a good lay of the land before either finishing and offensive play, or setting up someone with a better look.

Rose will make his team mates better the way guys like jordan did…by attracting a majority of the defenses attention towards him, and then finding the guy who is open for the easy shot.

Despite thier differences, i think in a few years time, rose and paul will be the best two pgs in the league, one will be the guy who can find the holes in the defense and set up guys, the other will be the guy who can punch holes in the defense and set up guys or finish. Both will dominate.

On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, Bullshooter, and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light....

I don’t think they’re as good as most people think

by Option27 on Dec 20, 2008 8:44 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I wouldn't say far, but there's a difference in how Cle/Bos put their opponents away and LA's playing down to their competition

But the Lakers hype will always drum strong because of the obsessive Kobe fanboys and the Lakers fans need to be in the spotlight all the time. It’s because Phil Jackson shaved his mustache, that thing was legendary.

Orlando is peaking in the worst possible season

Howard is having a MVP season of his own becoming a KG/Duncan like defensive force in the middle. Too bad there are two teams in the East that are the likely title favorites.

Not going to happen

VDN loves too much Gray for that

Unfortunately VDN will keep Gooden starting as long as he's healthy

Agreed...

As a “one off” where most of our players (and admittedly theirs) are hurt, it was fun to watch.

Holy crap;

I missed this entire game…and then this happens?

I just have absolutely no idea what to expect from the Bulls this year. Which is both frustrating and cool.

How the hell did this happen? No Luol (figuratively), Tyrus or Gooden, but they beat the jazz?!?

No Boozer either.

Of course, Ronnie Brewer went off for 4 points on 2-5 shooting, while being guarded by the midget Ben Gordon.

gordon is playing well on defense

hopefully this season quiets all those detractors of his D..he’s hustlin and even blocking shots here and there

At least Larry Hughes isn't overrated

did you see the celtics game???

Gordons idea of guarding ray allen, as a friend of mine put it, was to dare allen to take the 3.

“here ray, you can have the open look, now i dare you to take that jumpshot, go ahead, i dare ya!”

Um, every Celtic player was getting open looks

If you collapse in the paint every single time, all they had to do was swing it to the perimeter twice for an open shot. Gordon got lost on some screens, but that happens to any defender. If you want to complain about defense, blame Nocioni and Gray for not even playing Jr. High level interior D.

Im not someone who is anti-gordon

Im being honest, just check out the second quarter of the game when gordon came in. He was guarding ray allen, was in the vicinity, but either had his back turned to ray allen, or litterally watched him shoot a three, or was not on his defense. You say its cuz the interior defense collapsed, which is true. But gordon was rarely in a position to actually help out on defense (the ball was too far for him to offer help d) and even in that case, YOU NEVER GIVE RAY ALLEN AN OPEN 3. I rather perkins dunk the ball than allan hit a 3 (you know, give them 2 pts instead of 3). In the second quarter alone ray allan must have had 4-5 3s….thats insane!

Gordon may have showed more ability on the defensive end, but a few blocks doesnt mean he is a solid defender now. He is still BARELY a good defender. Like sports2 once wrote though, bg7’s offensive talents are usually enough to make up for whatever he lets go on defense. Bg7’s offense is pretty stellar, he just isnt good though when he isnt trying to score (meaning when defending, when playing point, or dribbling).

Im not trying to take gordons progress or positives away from him, i know he is a big part of our recent success….but to me its like talkign about hinrich having a killer instinct to score just because he scores 30 in a few games and knocks down some much needed 3s. Gordon is as good a defender as hinrich is at taking over games.

On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, Bullshooter, and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light....

Agree

I agree, BG is good if his offense is on, he is definitely no defensive gem, thats why Kirk guarded the other teams premier guard. I dont care what anyone says about Skiles, watch the Bucks lately and that man knows defense. I love the fact that BG is starting and so should Noah and TT, unless we can get a real center in a trade. Just TT and Noah gotta work harder and make it harder for the coaches to take them out. Get better and develop so either one can run the pick and roll game with Rose although I dont see why we dont just isolate Rose more like they do for Devin Harris and run an offense to get him isos on the wings, but thats different story. Back to BG, he needs improve his defense if he wants to get paid and stay here and start alongside Rose. Now also consider we have a pretty legit top 20 PG injured who if nothing else can play some defense who can either help us or get us something in a trade.

BG has played solid D this year, though. That's the thing.

The problem with Skiles is not coaching abitlity

but player relations, which is why he is good coach for 2 to 3 years with one team, but not beyond that. If Skiles had the relationship skills of Phil Jackson, he would still be coaching the Bulls.

That was semi-expected

Noah was huge on the glass, exhibit 8098080 why Aaron Gray does not deserve the spot over Noah whatsoever. Rose reminded us that he’s still awesome. And you have to like this kind of attitude

"I was relaxed a little bit, but now it’s aggressive for now on," Rose said. "If they stop me, then that’s what I have teammates for. If they don’t I’m going to get a layup or a jump shot."

put Gray in for a 3 to 4 minutes, then put Noah back in. Repeat as necessary.

Aaron Gray is just fine for the 49th overall pick

being paid the NBA minimum salary. The only problem is when fans (or coaches) expect him to be more than a limited minutes back-up.

by Granny Waiters on Dec 22, 2008 7:35 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

It's not the fans that expect that much out of a 2nd round pick

I’m fine with what he is, if he improves I’ll be shocked and glad for Paxson that he didn’t completely botch a big man prospect.

Where was Lou ?

Did you guys notice that Thabo got all of Deng’s minutes in the 4th and I didn’t hear that it was because of injury. I think that Thabo is going to take minutes away from Deng not from the backcourt. Thabo is a better defender than Deng and Deng hasn’t brought anything to the offense this year. With NOC playing the 4 now that Gooden is gone about 2 weeks Thabo will get 25-30min a game.

by Jscho316 on Dec 21, 2008 12:01 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

that's good for thabo

but i didn’t think it was the right decision to keep him in at the end of the game. he was pretty much a nonfactor after his 3pter with 7 minutes left (other than 2 fouls).

deng struggled again tonight though, and i think it could have been due to rose’s aggressiveness. as noted around here he’d been more passive the past few games and he picked it up again tonight, leaving less room for deng in the offense.

i just know these guys can work together. i think rose could be great for deng if they figure each other out. i hope it’s soon.

by Jaina on Dec 21, 2008 12:19 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Not sure if he was a nonfactor

If he was just playing solid D (though they were playing against mismatches); which is why I was always hoping for him to get some playing time.
And he was playing well on the offensive end for a good bit I think if Deng or someone else was in they might have tried to do too much. Thabo might of brought some balance.

Classic Noc!
Probably the most interesting thing that came out postgame was Millsap reenacting the offensive foul he got called for against Andres Nocioni with 3:17 left. The referees probably saw what we did at the press table, which was Nocioni appearing as if he got hit in the face as the two battled for position.

Millsap said the reality was a little different. As he demonstrated by grabbing my right arm, Nocioni apparently was holding him in the post. Then Nocioni actually jerked back Millsap’s arm into his head and recoiled to sell the foul. Millsap, C.J. Miles and Ronnie Brewer were all talking about the sequence after the game.

The man was born to flop.

"Derrick Rose is like a $500,000 Maybach parked in the driveway of a $200,000 house in the middle of nowhere" - Bill Simmons

He probably gets fined for that

The baseline official made the call, but really had no angle to view what Millsap’s arm was doing. The league goofs, but Noc was definitely holding Millsap’s arm to sell the push.

by NBA Observer on Dec 21, 2008 4:44 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

has anyone been fined for flopping yet?

and if not, why not?

Objectively, I’d come down hard on such Noc shenanigans. All it ultimately does it get people hurt when he flies on his back.

Pretty sure no one has. Noc has to be very high on your list if you were betting who’d get fined first. I’m just hoping we trade him first. Last thing we need one more(very visible) reason for teams to steer clear of him.
