Around SBN: The Amateur Mathematics Of Linsanity

I think the Warriors are almost guaranteed to trade Wright at some point before the late-February trade deadline.

And I think, if they have any shot of moving Maggette, they’d have to include Randolph (maybe Wright AND Randolph just to move Maggette), which is such an abject surrender that I cannot imagine where they’d go from there.

But around the league, the word is out: Don Nelson is desperate to make a deal, just make any deal, he’s more than willing to dump his best young players, and there’s nobody left at Warriors HQ to stop him.

Panic time in Warriorsland?

How can we take advantage?

The Bulls want to find someone who complements Rose?

I’d direct them to one Anthony Randolph, a kid with a huge wingspan, elite athleticism, and the skills to both run the floor and shoot with range. That the warriors would even consider trading him is nuts. When he puts on weight – and he’ll easily be bigger than Prince, if you look at his shoulders – this kid will be a force.

Youth movement time? Well, why not? Luol Deng, especially at his contract, is eminently replaceable. Hell, I’m not sure Corey Maggette (when healthy) couldn’t provide more. Our grizzled vets won’t take us anywhere as it is; neither are they good enough to net us anyone who could.

Yeah, a part of me would groan if the Bullies traded their big pieces and ended up with more rooks. But at least it would be a concerted direction – something to hang on to other than Derrick Rose.

Plan A remains to pair Rose with an established big. Plan B, scuttling the team and providing Rose with as many young guns as we can, is substantially less exciting because of the lumps they’d take, but I could live with it.

What I can’t stand is the absence of any plan whatsoever.

As I post this, though,

I totally feel like I’m pulling at straws. This team does that to me. :(

I'll take all 3 of those Warriors and give them whatever they want in return...

with the exception of Rose, of course. Randolph is going to be a beast- he was so impressive in the few Warriors games I’ve seen this year.

I’d love to hear more about this Maggette situation. Not that I pay attention to GSW, but didn’t they just sign him? And they regret it this much already?

That

and Nelson is truly nuts. He has Brandon Wright and Anthony Randolph…and starts an undrafted rookie (Kurtz) and Azubuke.

What a loon. Let’s rob him.

Agreed.

Randolph is SO good. And Wright’s looked good in his limited time. …

Looking at their roster

they only have one center so almost certainly we would have to include Noah (ho hum), which means we would/should also at the same time trade for a center.

Don Nelson seems to hate Centers.

It would make sense that we would have to include Noah, so, I’m not saying your wrong, I’m just pointing out that clearly Don Nelson doesn’t always make sense.

Nelson is an idiot

He never plays young players with talent

Randolph and Wright are both really good but he think he’s a genius and throws out the most stupid lineups.

Maggette sucks, he will get his points but will never pass or do anything else worthwhile. A lot of driving to the basket with his head down.

A smart GM would hop on a guy like Wright in a heartbeat

it’s the perfect type of low cost, high upside move that eventual championship teams pull off. I’m not saying Wrigt will be great, but it’s possible. Unfortunately our GM does not have the ability to take advantage of this type of situation.

We have tyrus.

Not sure you need two of the same type of upside player, although I suppose it increases the likelihood you end up developing a star…

Randolph on the other hand is so versatile how could you NOT pursue him??

Asked what kind of player he expects to be in the next five years, he said: "Not a star, but like, a superstar. Something around, like, Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, something like that."

Part of me is in complete agreement-

you’re right that they’re both raw, athletic, long players with more upside than production. But Wright and Tyrus aren’t really redundant in the sense that they bring totally different skill sets. With time, I could see Wright being more of a LMA type player.

Wright is already a much better offensive player than Tyrus

I think their games are actually kinda complementary in that Wright can play the face up shooting role and Tyrus can play garbage man pretty well and their length on the interior would bother a lot of teams.

I've had a woody for Brandan Wright for a while

Every time they actually put him in, he does good things. And he’s on his rookie deal in 2010. I’d trade Tyrus for him yesterday.

I also like Wright and Randolph

and would gladly give up Larry hughes and Drew Gooden for Maggette, Wright , and Randolph
