Bulls are getting hammered on the offensive glass and in turnovers.

Sixers have the advantage 14-5 in offensive boards and have only 16 turnovers to the Bulls’ 21.

The Bulls’ eFG% advantage is the only reason this is as close as it is.

Despite the TO tyrus looks good tonight. I really think he needs more run…he has energy and isnt making stupid plays. He IS EFFECTIVE when he plays within his limits. Its when he thinks that hes still a pg that he gets into problems.

It's not even close. Thabo >>>> Noce.

Thabo doesn’t think he’s a star. He actually defends. He’s not wasting possessions by chucking. He has better shot selection and he’s just better in every conceivable aspect.

by fundamentallysound on Dec 2, 2008 10:15 PM CST up reply actions

Seriously?

Have you seen any of the last 17games?

There’s a reason Sefo is like the 11th man off the bench. And that’s because he sucks more than 10 other guys. And Noce, well, he’s the 10th guy off the bench. So he sucks more than just 9 other guys.

by PatBull on Dec 2, 2008 10:17 PM CST up reply actions

Look at their numbers. Noc is getting entitlement minutes based on past performance.

He’s been absolutely horrid this whole season. For a rough assessment Thabo’s PER is 16 (and he plays good D). Noc’s PER is 9.5 or something and he plays abysmal D. It’s not even close.

by fundamentallysound on Dec 2, 2008 10:19 PM CST up reply actions

Thing is...

Ther’e s reason Sefo isn’t playing. It’s because he really really sucks, PER notwithstanding.

Im sure Harris and Bickerstaff took a look at Sefo’s PER and Noce’s PER and their actual game contributions and said “What the hell? Let’s go with the Argentinean who can make some plays instead of the Swiss who can’t shoot, can’t dribble and can’t pass.”

Oh, and Noce doesn’t think he’s a star either. He’s the one who said he didn’t like starting because it meant that the actual starters (Deng) were having bad seasons and that it was always a bad thing if he starts. Look it up.

by PatBull on Dec 2, 2008 10:24 PM CST up reply actions

But he can do all of those things ...

He can even defend too!

THABO'S PER IS 16, NOCE'S IS 9.5, therefor thabo rules and Noce sucks.

Mareese Spreight’s PER is 20.72.

Yao Ming is 20.65, Danny Granger is 20.10, Garnett is 19.38 (more than a point lower), Nash is 18.87 (2 points lower), Oden is 18.32, DRose is 17.81, Paul Pierce is 17.81 (3 points lower), David West is 17.32 (3.5 points lower), Al horford is 16.84 (4 points lower) and Carmelo Anthony is 16.74 (more than 4 points lower).

And we know Philly will never ever trade Spreights for any of those guys.

by PatBull on Dec 2, 2008 11:11 PM CST up reply actions

by Azabullsfan on Dec 2, 2008 11:31 PM CST up reply actions

THABO'S PER IS 16.25.

So we should never trade him for…
Luis Scola (16.10)
Corey Maggete (16.09)
Rashard Lewis (15.99)
Udonis Haslem (15.9)
Rasheed Wallace (15.55)
Rudy Gay (15.26)
Michael Beasely (15.07)
Hedo Turkoglu (14.74)
Rip Hamilton (14.37)
Richard Jefferson (14.20)

You really say that Sefo is better than all these players?

Btw, Hughes’ PER is 14.29. That’s better than Jefferson, Barbosa, Outlaw, Iguodala, Tyson Chandler and Stojakovic. I still say Hughes sucks more than they do. but you, of course, say differently.

by PatBull on Dec 2, 2008 11:18 PM CST up reply actions

Good God people still argue PER like this?

Sample size, sample size, sample size, broad statistic, etc etc.

"It never is, because I'm the Shogun. And before you get to the Shogun, you gotta go through a lot of ninjas."

by Ozzie Montana on Dec 2, 2008 11:36 PM CST up reply actions

The rebuttal arguments you made don't really have merit here.

PER is a broad statistic and it’s imperfect, but it establishes general trends. Nocioni has been barely above replacement level and Thabo has been around average (slightly better). There are a number of other statistics that show that Thabo is better but I just chose PER as a quick and dirty method of showing that. I thought it was well established around these parts that a 7 point PER differential is significant, whereas the PER differentials you cited were very slight or non-existent.

by fundamentallysound on Dec 3, 2008 12:27 AM CST up reply actions

That's also before accounting for the fact that Nocioni is terrible on D

and Thabo is a positive contributor on D. Nocioni is getting entitlement minutes. The only reason this could possibly be a positive is if it is in some sort of lame attempt to showcase him so we can dump him for expiring contracts (not likely if he keeps playing this shitty).

I can't believe Noce was out there instead of Deng

What the fuck did Noce do besides hit a random 3 that Deng couldn’t have done?

Rose didn’t get a shot off, I love most of the players on this team but they played selfish basketball in OT. Everyone jacked up stupid shots, and our only points came off a broken play where Tyrus was basically forced to roll to the rim.

Wrong team, perhaps?

Mediocre, but whatever

He’s miles ahead of Noce in every aspect. Noce didn’t even play well to justify the OT, wasn’t like he was raining 3s.

by The90sBullsRevival on Dec 2, 2008 10:24 PM CST up reply actions

Well he got it for a reason

He’s good, and wayyyyyyyyyy better than Noce. If he has a subpar game and Noce has a worse game, why did Noce play the OT?

It doesn’t matter because they would have lost anyways, but it’s a horrible coaching move by Vinny, who got lucky getting the game into OT because the Bulls were hitting tons of FTs.

They had nearly identical stats...

but deng played 9 more min. But yeah, put your big money man in the slot in OT if he’s worth 70 mil.

Noc

was astonishingly bad. I just don’t understand what he brought. Awful, gambling defense. Poor shooting. Poor rebounding.

What’s even more astonishing is that VDN kept him in the game.

Just painful to watch.

I miss skiles

I know he had his flaws and was hated…but at least he could design a play and he would never let this ot happen…he would bench every player that took a shot before rose could initiate the offense in ot

We have only 1 player who excels at 1-on-1 basketball

He didn’t attempt a shot in OT, therefore our offense was quite the epic failure.

He didn't set up those shots

Someone took the ball, decided ball movement was for losers, and just jacked it up. That’s not on him, nor is it good Philly defense. It’s criminally bad Bulls offense, and it’s something that rears its head everytime Rose doesn’t run the show.

Whatever, they better not lose to Milwaukee tomorrow

This is an easy stretch of schedule, the Bulls have a golden chance to get over .500 and PLAY LIKE A FREAKING TEAM. It’s like only 2 players go with the Rose plan every game, one night it’s Gooden and BG, the other it’s Noce and Tyrus. Why can’t everyone be on the same page as him?

Off topic but i'm curious what will happen when Hinrich comes back

the rotation’s gonna implode. Either hughes PT goes down and he becomes the new marbury or he spends more time at the 3 over what looks like deng

It has little to do with philly

Everything has to go right for us to win with this offense…its perfect for rose, but terrible for everyone else except kirk and noc…I really think we need to look at Eddie Jordan…He would be PERFECT (at least offensively)…Hopefully we go after him in the offseason…I wish we could hire Frank…maybe harris will get hurt and he will be fired…I think both Noah and Tyrus can be NBA starters (maybe not on the same team), but not in this system

as long as he has the real power…but it can look like vdn is still in charge…I think tyrus and noah would really benefit…i wish vdn would do something stupid so we could fire him

by rosefromconcrete on Dec 2, 2008 10:42 PM CST up reply actions

Tyrus

This game showed that Tyrus can be effective….he’ll never be a superstar but there is no reason that he can’t average a double double every night. As long as he plays within his means and keeps it simple, he should be able to score 14 pts, 10 rebounds every game. I really hope Vinnie gives him at least 28-32 minutes a game now. Fuck Gooden and his 20 ft jumpshots, that is why he is a top 5 pick who is on his fourth team. Every 4th game, his jumpers are good, the rest of the time he is garbage and his D is beyond atrocious. Also does Noah have lung cancer? He was effective rebounding but how can a professional athlete’s conditioning be so bad? There are 40+ year old dudes at my local YMCA that can play for hours straight.

I still predict somewhere between 38-40 wins, possible 8th seed but probably not.

And please a real coach soon, let Del and Bernie take more control.
