Tyrus Thomas Update

The Bulls are expected to release something official on Tyrus Thomas' condition later Thursday, but a person who has spoken with Thomas Thursday said he's resting comfortably and is eyeing a return for Saturday's home game against Utah after leaving Wednesday's overtime victory with a concussion.

Thomas got hit in the head in consecutive games---last Satuday at home against the Nets and Tuesday in Charlotte---then complained about dizziness and blackouts during Wednesday's game. He played just five minutes.

Vinny Del Negro said late Wednesday a CT scan came up negative and that more tests could be performed.

Wow.

Glad it’s not looking like it’s serious, but still… that sucks.

Fine, the concussion is the reason for his recent blackouts.

But what about the other nightly on-court blackouts for the last two+ years?

Heres to hoping Nocioni shares his toothbrush.

Nocioni has an Olympic gold medal, a bronze medal and a EuroLeague MVP, and now… His legs are broken! Coming to an arena near you.

Hope he takes his

why does this shit always happen to TT?

remember his rookie year? first game against the Heat, he had great energy and bam! Posey breaks his damn nose and he has to play with that mask for the first month. and there was another time he was on a tear and he badly sprained his ankle. bad luck or bad karma? or maybe he’s just struggling now so he can eventually progress…:)

Is John trying to raise up Tyrus' value or does he truly believe in him?
‘‘In my mind, if [Thomas] gets the minutes, there’s no reason he can’t be around a double-double guy because of his athleticism,’’ general manager John Paxson said. ‘‘If Tyrus can play, he doesn’t have to score like [Tuesday], that’s really not his game. It can be some nights, but it’s not always going to be that.’’

he could believe in it

but apparently not enough to flat-out tell lame-duck interim moron [name redacted] to play him.

yea that's what I don't get

Why in the hell do you draft a guy, make all the calls along the way, then you have your lame duck coach not play him?

that’s just bad management.

by madvillian on Dec 18, 2008 3:21 PM CST up reply actions

The more I read Pax's quotes though

and the more I look at the recent trends in playing time (tons of Gooden, tons of Noc, but finally more Tyrus), I’m really thinking he’s going to deal at least one of the first two so Tyrus can get his real minutes no matter what the situation.

I could see Paxson telling VDN something along the lines of . . .

“Just to help you prepare for the future, one of these three will not be here soon so you better figure out how to use all of em”

And apparently not enough to flat-out tell our current wet behind the ears, learning on the fly,

rookie, novice coach to play him either.

Oh wait, I forgot. TT made a sarcastic remark, which should banish him from sharing floor time with all those professionals that get the nod ahead of him most of the time, regardless of their suck quotients.

Tyrus Thomas for sale; trade on the horizon...Don't buy it

I don’t get showcasing. Never did.

If your profession is to scout players, knowing their strengths and weaknesses, then why would a three-game stretch with extended minutes change anything?

The Chicago Sun-Times reported today that Thomas could be shipped if John Paxson goes forward with a trade some time soon.

All this talk about trading Tyrus and Noah are maddening.

The only way it would make sense to get rid of Noah would be if the Bulls would get Kamen in return. He has played very well since his dressing down by Vinny, finally demonstrating the energy and potential most of us expected. Paxson has made too many mistakes giving up on young talent too soon to go down that path again. At least I hope so.

It would be completely insane to trade Tyrus now that he is showing glimpses of what an incredible upside potential he could offer, provided he’s given sufficient floor time to develop. It seems either the coaches or TT or both have finally realized he is much more effective taking it to the hole instead of roaming the outside perimeter to merely set picks which also limits his offensive rebounding ability.

He is still a young and immature 22 with a steeper learning curve than we would have hoped for, but I definitely see the arrow as currently pointing upward and I believe Tyrus feeds on his own successes, just as his emotions tend to hurt his game when things aren’t going well.
My formula for TT is simple. More minutes played = better chance to suceed.

If the Bulls let him go now just as he is figuring out his role, and his talent explodes with another club, it will leave a permanent stain on Paxson’s qualifications and reputation. Would he really want to take this gamble so soon? Likewise, If the Thomas experiment works out here in Chicago, than Pax can enjoy the last laugh after all the verbal abuse he has been subjected to for drafting Tyrus instead of LMA.

Call me crazy, but I would still take TT over LMA today. Tommorrow? maybe not.
