The Bobcats/Suns deal could be precursor to possible Knicks deal
A person with knowledge of the Suns-Bobcats trade said the deal was accomplished in time to allow both players to be trade-eligible by the deadline. NBA rules say traded players cannot be moved again for 60 days. The deal was done Dec. 10, which means they can be traded again Feb. 9.
Another source has said the Bobcats have maintained interest in Eddy Curry, who has yet to play this season because of a bone bruise in his left knee. The Knicks - who are owned by Cablevision, which also owns Newsday - could flip Curry for Diaw, who are close in salary. Diaw's deal goes a year longer than Curry's, but it would save the Knicks $2.2 million in cap space for 2010.
=====================================
This makes a little more sense. Though it would still be somewhat of a head-scratcher, especially with Curry not having played at all this year...even still, it would make sense for both teams.

Please Bobcats.............PLEASE trade for Eddy Curry
The comedy of having 2 fat PFs with no work ethic is just gold.

I'd just love to see the quotes from Larry Brown after spending some time w/ Curry

he already coached Curry in 2005-06... you can probably find some quotes about what he thought of him

That's the crazy thing, he already did in NY, now it appears he wants to spend some more.

in fairness, Eddy was actually okay that year for the Knicks... the rest of the team was just
crap and well, Eddy didn’t play any D, but then, he never does. I think he fits okay next to Okafor though since Emeka provides the shot-blocking and mobility you need when you have Eddy eating up space on the inside and not providing much D.

I'm just saying... if Eddy fits anywhere, he fits next to a guy like Okafor

He's too large,
he doesn’t fit anywhere.

I don't see it.
Why not just wait and make a 3-way trade outright?
Sounds like NY media drumming up stories.

simply because Kerr isn't going to do that
you think he would do a 3-way trade that in any way, shape, or form helps D’Antoni and the Knicks? Not a chance. But there’s nothing he can say or do in this round-about way that it might go down.
Looks like MJ is helping Walsh pull the okie-doke on Kerr…

I'll believe it when I see it.
Kerr doesn’t seem like the type who would be too spiteful to make a deal based on the team involved.

If the Bobcats wanted to wait until Curry was healthy, it makes sense
Depending on how long that’s going to take, Kerr could have easily told them he didn’t want to wait to find help for his own team and would pursue other deals. If the Knicks really wanted Diaw and the Bobcats are/were willing to keep him if the Curry part doesn’t work out, it’s not a bad risk.

Seems like a big risk to me
So you trade for 2 players when you really want a totally different player. Then you wait for a notoriously out of shape player with a heart condition to hopefully return so you can later make a deal? Eddy Curry also seems like a player who Larry Brown would hate, while Bell and Diaw seem to be the type of player Larry Brown loves.

Diaw has a similar rep for not giving it his all for practices and the off season
But you’re right, doing this trade as a means to eventually get Curry is a boatload of risk unless they’re content w/ sticking w/ Diaw if Curry’s not eventually available. It seems far too complicated to believe that an NBA GM would go this route. I was merely trying to show a case for why someone would go that route.
