Thomas, Thabo, Hughes on the block
Marc Stein reports. Good to see we're intent on keeping Nocioni.

Why doesn't it say the Bulls minus D Rose are on the trading block?
That would make me happy.

That was my reaction too
If his name isn’t the first one rolling off Paxson’s lips whenever he’s on the phone, he’s clueless.
I don’t really see a point to trading Thabo. He hasn’t looked great and I wouldn’t want him as a starter, but he hasn’t been awful and our goal should be trading Hughes and Hinrich. And if we trade those two, we’ll want to hold onto Thabo for depth.
Honestly, after the abuse he took last night, I’m starting to wonder if we’re going to get anywhere with Deng. He’s not there yet, but I watch him sometimes and wonder if a couple years from now he’s going to be as slow as Nocioni is now.
De gustibus non est disputandum
And the Mopey Iowan.
Other than Rose, Gordon and Deng, everyone should be on the trade block.

Gordon wont be signed
It would stupid to sign him after the end of the year, and hinrich should be traded for a better compliment to rose.
On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, Bullshooter, and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light....
What SG out there
is better than BG and will be a 2009 FA?
Unless you want Hughes as the 2009-2010 starting 2, and can sign Wade or Joe Johnson as a FA.

Im not knocking gordon
I rather try my hand at getting someone in 2010 then sign gordon. Theres a bunch of real good players, even aside from bosh, lebron, wade. And i can see there being more good players available going up to that free agency period that will be on the block. Gordon has played well with luols bad season thus far would anyone be surprised if gordon wanted deng money or more? And he would be justified to ask the bulls for that sort of money, plus the fact that we have to compete to get gordon, meaning getting in a bidding war with some other team.
check this link: http://www.prosportsdaily.com/forums/showthread.php?t=236903
theres at least 10 extremely good guards who may be available in 2010, and another 5 more who i would actually prefer over ben gordon. Ben gordon will take at least 10 million of our cap available in 2010 if we sign him, and i rather use that money to one of the many stars in that will be available. I dont mind sucking one year if it means being in contention for several. No more do i want the bulls to be a team that makes it into the playoffs but is expected to fall by the 3rd round.

Who are we thinking?
These are the SGs I’d rather have than Gordon: Joe Johnson; Dwayne Wade; Michael Redd. Maybe Ray Allen and Mike Miller.
Allen, Ginobili (who I love as a player), and T-Mac are all old. I’d rather have BG in his prime than those guys (although if Allen came for the right price . . .). Besides, Ginobili will probably retire a Spur; I don’t think there’s any way they don’t resign him.
S-Jax and Rip are off the table as they’ve signed extensions. I wouldn’t want them anyway in place of BG, mostly because of age.
Wade is a pipe dream probably. Joe is going to be asking for A LOT as these next two years are probably going to be his career years; in fact, he’ll only be slightly cheaper than Wade, I’m guessing (i.e. not maxed out, but pretty close). And whoever buys him will be buying his decline (although he’ll still be very good).
So that leaves Redd and Miller. Two guys. The chances of someone else overpaying them and outbidding us is pretty high in my opinion. There are going to be a lot more teams with cap space in 2010 than next summer, so the bidding in 2010 amongst all those teams that missed out on the Big 3 is going to be fierce. We’ll probably get BG at a better price this upcoming offseason than we could get those other guys in 2010, and even to the extent they’re better (an arguable point), they’re not worlds better.
Just sayin’.
If you factor in age and contract, would you really want most of those guys instead?
Redd is quite a bit older and more expensive than Gordon will be. Miller’s probably about the same but several years older. I just don’t see where that upgrades us.
De gustibus non est disputandum
I would pick both of those guys over BG
but not by tons, and it certainly depends on the numbers. Basically, both Redd and Miller are pure shooters who can do everything (or at the very least most) of what BG does on offense, but they’re both bigger and wouldn’t be as much of a (potential) defensive liability as BG.
The point of my post, though, was that it would be a lot harder to replace Ben than piccolomair claims. Instead of a “bunch” of guys, there are really only two (arguably).
Tyrus has almost no value left at this point
And Thabo has even less value than Tyrus does. What’s the point of trading them, unless they’re part of a bigger trade? Talk about selling low on an asset.
Why resort to name calling?

You never know, maybe Paxson is wheeling and dealing.
I remember reading an article from Matt (or maybe Matt said it himself) that this Bulls team is very similar to the 1980’s Atlanta Hawks teams. They’re good enough to compete (which was evident in ’05, ’06, ’07), but not good enough to ever win a championship. They had good players with Wilkins, Doc, and Willis, but never a great team that can win.
When I look at this Bulls team with Rose, Deng, and …. well I guess no one else, I see a team that’s drenched in mediocrity. Hoping for a McHale-like trade is wishful thinking.
The only way for the Bulls to excel is to hope for a high trade pick, and start the process over again. Because it’s becoming evidently clear that the players they picked aren’t any good.
Disagree.
I’ve mentioned this before, but Tyrus definitely still has value. I mean, look at the way Kwame has maintained his value after years of proving how sucky he is. Tyrus still has a very real chance of being good. He’s young, and he’s shown flashes beyond anything Kwame ever did. The floor for Tyrus is being Stromile Swift, who can still be useful (even if he was ultimately disappointing). The ceiling is unknown. This is why so many people want to keep him.
This is true also of Sef, although less so, as he’s older and has been even more inconsistently good (or more consistently bad, I guess).
Yes, let's completely ignore the worst contract on the team
What do you see in a 14 ppg with no jumper that makes one think he will be better than a 26ppg\ 12rpg guy? Is there some kind of magic formula that tells you 14 > 26??

After last night's game
Kendall and Norm speculated the same thing. They both thought it was strange that Thomas, Noah, and Thabo would all get minutes in the same game.
So...let's get this straight...
2 guys (Tyrus and Thabo) that VDN promised he was going to develop are now going to be traded early in the season? That makes some great sense!!!! Go Pax!!!

Good!
All three of those players aren’t long term solutions for the Bulls.
Regarding actually trading any of them, they will be part of a bigger package I think. Possibly including one or two of the following: Hinrich, Deng, Gooden, and (if he were to even actually agree to which he most likely wouldn’t due to loss of Bird Rights) Gordon.
You forgot Nocioni.
Gray can adequately fill the “gritty white guy” role for 8-12 mpg.

this is a repeat of last season
where several, if not all, of the trade rumors swirling around came from ESPN’s “sources”…NOTHING from the beat writers.
KC "who will write that tyrus will be shopped" Johnson disagrees.

Stein talks to owners
He routinely discloses on TV that a lot of what he learns is from owners.
The beat writers probably talk to agents, GMs, and player personnel guys, but do they talk to owners on a regular basis?

I can't see
KC and JR sitting down sharing a latte’ discussing the Bulls for some reason.
But isn’t that WHY he’s a beat writer? To give the fans the beat of the Bulls? Beat, meaning, the goings ons of the team…rumors, stories, pulse, etc.
I guess that’s too much to ask.
I hope Thomas asked to be traded.
I’d like him more.
If Thomas is indeed on the bloc,k I think it should absolutely be the nail-in-the-coffin of Paxson’s lack of abilities as a General Manager.
A) Thomas is horrible and always has been horrible = Boo on Paxson for drafting him, for sticking with him this long and needing a new coach to tell him how bad Thomas is after only 20 games.
B) Thomas is good but just needs someone to “handle” him right = Boo on Paxson for drafting him with Skiles as a coach and then Boo on Paxson for falling for Del Negro’s snake oil when Del Negro really didn’t have the management ability to get the most out of Thomas
Viva la nuance! Reading comprehension rules!!!
The real kicker is Pax spoke at length about knowing Tyrus needed "special handling" when they drafted him
De gustibus non est disputandum
I think by special handling
Pax meant more of that on skill development. Not on running hard down the court or practicing as VDN indicated was the problem.
Even so, he didn't give him that either.
It’s still an indictment of Paxson. Thomas’s best skill improvements, or attempts anyway, came by working with a guy he paid for himself. The only things Paxson has offered him as “skill improvements” are coaches that will teach him to act professional, sprint the whole court, etc.
Viva la nuance! Reading comprehension rules!!!
huh?
Thomas’s best skill improvements, or attempts anyway, came by working with a guy he paid for himself.
I doubt IMG worked on teaching Tyrus to run.

It's all been said before.
I just thought this was supposed to be a development year. What’s with the “win now” mentality?
Fuck it. Pack your bags, youngn’s. May you come back to the UC to embarrass Bulls management for years to come.
Asked what kind of player he expects to be in the next five years, he said: "Not a star, but like, a superstar. Something around, like, Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, something like that."
Man, it would be hard to see Tyrus and Gooden go
but I would be fine everyone else leaveing expect for rose. But I still think we should try out luck with Thomas and Drew Gooden is full of vet leadership that we need.
