Tyrus' "Sarcastic Comment" Led to the Blowup
"This is certain: Thomas' seven minutes capped an eventful stretch in which Thomas played 5:06 last Saturday, not at all Tuesday against the Knicks and was sent to the locker room by Del Negro for making a sarcastic comment during a recent practice."

At this point would anyone be suprised if there was a Tyrus Thomas trade announcement on Monday?

not really

Read the rest of the article
KC’s just trying to stir shit up. He even acknowledges that VDN and the other players said it’s a common incident, not specific to Tyrus.
Anyways, I’d be pissed if they traded him after barely playing him the last 5 games. They wouldn’t get anything worth keeping in return and if they were that down on him they should just release him.

what would you expect vinny to say?
“This guy’s a real bone-head and we are exploring all opportunities to move him” ?

It wasn't just Vinnie though, KC pointed to the players as saying it wasn't an issue as well

I still think that Memphis
is the team that we should be trying to trade with, not Portland. They have cap space and some good players. We need both things. So, why not trading for Warrick, or Darrel Arthur, or Milicic… Send them Hinrich, Tyrus and Simmons for Milicic and Lowry – both contract expires in 2010 – or something like that. I don’t know… Just end this shit. If TT is making so much waves and is not in our future plans, trade him now…

Hell I wouldn't mind getting Darko
What do you see in a 14 ppg with no jumper that makes one think he will be better than a 26ppg\ 12rpg guy? Is there some kind of magic formula that tells you 14 > 26??

I hope he does get moved.
His attitude and lack of development has become a distraction.

I saw that, too...
seems like a pretty big deal if he had to kick him out. Then again, is VDN so freaking insecure that he can’t actually respond to a problem? He has to push it away like an infant?

given how frustrating it is for us to see him not play
imagine how it is for him. Vinny sold him out early in the season for the sake of ‘matchups’. And we know he’s not exactly the most mature guy, but I get why he’d be upset. He’ll be in the league longer than Vinny anyway.

also, I can see a a scenario where the 'sarcasm'
would stem from something like “like I’m going to play anyway”

I remember a story about Pat Riley once cutting a guy on the spot for some minor offense
At some point, I don’t really blame him for not wanting to put up with a bunch of shit from people who aren’t doing the right thing in the first place.

Yeah, wasn't it
Smush Parker that he banished to oblivion (i.e., never seeing the court again for the Heat) before trading him almost a full season later? And this was at a time when the Heat desperately needed a PG…

Good catch on Smush
Yeah, he did it with him, but I was thinking of this story about Todd Day:
I want the guy who once heard Todd Day was criticizing the way Riley ran practice in Miami, and how Riley called an air-it-out team meeting. He asked the entire locker room, “Does anybody, anybody at all, have a problem with how I run this ship?”
No one raised their hand. Finally, Riley said: “How about you Todd Day? Do you have a problem? You know what, you’re cut. Get the hell out of here.”
After a near altercation, with Day explaining that Riley could not just do that, he had union rights, after all, Day was removed and the locker room grew still.
That article’s especially funny because the columnist is wondering if Riley had “lost it” two games into the Finals series with the Mavericks. The Heat were down 0-2. They promptly won the next four.

I think it's time to stop blaming everyone BUT Tyrus

yeah, he is taking all of TT's playing time
little did we know TT has been developing a great jumper and is so “athletic” that he really belongs at the 2. This man can do it all.

I think it's time to just cut ties with him
Maybe he’s a nice guy, maybe he’s an insufferable asshole. At this point, who cares about his personality. The point is, he’s not producing at the level the coaching staff wants him to, he’s not being given the consistent minutes to prove himself, so fuck it. Hughes has value, when Kirk comes back he’ll have value as well.

"At this point?"
Why at ANY POINT has anyone cared about his personality? If his personality as far as being “nice” or “mean” was ever an issue for playing time, etc., that’s just beyond absurd. Fuck. That. Shit.

You know it clearly matters in sports
Players have gotten benched for far less than having a bad attitude, or at least a perceived one. And this franchise loves their Gary Cooper personalities.

Some Context Here,
This was the GM / management that (1) brought in Adrian Griffin for his supposed stabilizing presence; (2) sent Tim Thomas home for his supposed bad influence on the youngsters; and (3) selected Vinnie for the stated reason that he’d be more supportive of this still young and impressionable team. (4) This is also largely the same team that so overachieved the two years preceding last season. Some writers say they did so largely on their good attitude—they always tried their hardest and never gave up, as reflected in the number of their come-from-behind victories where they were down big before winning, and their top-3 FG defense in those years.
So while Vinnie is trying to be supportive, you can see how he’d find it really important to establish the right attitude with his kids. And Tyrus’ “bounce back game” last night against the Nets showed some really good results; let’s hope this continues.
