Hinrich out up to 12 weeks
I know a lot of people aren't huge fans of Kirk but this is pretty crappy.

Does this mean more minutes for Sefolosha?
Can he play pg?

No. He doesn't handle the ball well.
He dribbles way too high and doesn’t keep the ball close to him and under control. He can make good passes and has in the past, but any extended handling of the ball makes him look very clumsy. And he is too tall. (ok, just kidding, but he would be pretty over sized against typical PG)

Dang, these injuries are just giving Pax more and more excuses not to trade anyone

I guess this does hurt us, though.
Hopefully this means lots of BG with Thabo coming off the bench for his occasional defensive ‘presence.’
Too bad Larry will be back soon, though.

wow, this sucks
this means we are guaranteed Hughes getting big minutes
by DangerMouse on Nov 8, 2008 6:17 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
On the positive side this guarantees major minutes for Rose.
It also means the end ofseeing Rose and Hinrich on the floor together with Hinrich taking over the PG responsibilities. Although it really kills us on the trade front
by Juiceboxjerry on Nov 8, 2008 6:32 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I think Rose has already
guaranteed himself major minutes just by his play alone.

Crap
He was part of our big three Rose/Gordon/Hinrich that should have boxed out Hughes from ever seeing the light of day. This is just another excuse to use Hughes. ARRG. This is the worst news possible for our guard situation.

While in theory he should have helped box out Hughes
I think it’s pretty clear that wasn’t going to happen considering Vinny seems to love Larry for whatever reason.
The best part of this is that Gordon should get to play a TON, which is what most people here have been pining for. Hopefully he seizes the starting job and never lets go of it.

I think I was still holding out hope. (whimpers)
Hinrich would have made a great backup to Rose and Gordon this year.

Agreed. But it doesn't seem like Vinny wanted to be that way for whatever (nonsensical) reason.

The minute Larry's in good health
he’s the starter, BG had all this time and hasn’t “won” the starting job yet. The organization clearly does not want him starting.

If that isn't winning it
then I suggest we start only four players a game.

Doubly sad
Hinrich was playing well and a lot of “good teams” (Houston and Philadelphia) are underachieving, especially at the point guard position. Wish we had moved him because those underachieving teams are going to start playing better in the next 12 weeks and may no longer have a need for Kirk.
by Jamaicanpi on Nov 8, 2008 6:37 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I'm super sad.
Not the guard we need injured.
by Option27 on Nov 8, 2008 6:43 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
This really sucks.
Kirk seemed really down when they interviewed him. Twelve weeks is a long time.
by sue369 on Nov 8, 2008 6:46 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
This is not good news.
The only good spin for this is at least Vinny will have an easier decision with backcourt minutes…I can’t believe we spent an entire summer arguing over minute distribution…I knew injuries would make it easier, but I counted on Hughes being the main one out…

So much for the guard glut
Let’s face it, even when Hughes gets back it’ll probably only be a matter of time before he gets hurt again. And at this point, I’d rather see Hughes playing than Thabo.
by Big D on Nov 8, 2008 7:53 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Worst yet,
it screws Kirk in the sense that he’s not going to be moved to a team where he can be a full-time starting point guard. Pax can’t move him now, Kirk can’t play to improve his value, and he can’t help the team. Just terrible news all around.

It could work out ok
Ideally, he’ll be back a week or two before the trade deadline, and he’ll be able to get out there and show he’s no longer injured.
I don’t think we have to worry about his trade value in the grand scheme of things. He hadn’t played poorly in general this year, he’d just not played all that well with Rose. Which is obviously a problem for us as Bulls fans, but for a team looking for a PG, it looks pretty good.
So the way I look at it, he did enough to show he can be a starting PG and a good vet for another team. Now he needs to get back before the trade deadline so he can show there’s not any long-term problems.
If Portland doesn’t do anything crazy before then, my proposed Kirk/Noc for Raef/Martell Webster deal could be coming together nicely.

Also...and I know I'm gonna get panned for this...
I think Hughes might not be bad backing up BG. Next to Rose, he’s our most athletic guard, and he has decent size. If – IF! – he can control his tendency to shoot bad shots, he might actually help us until Kirk comes back, raising his own value in the process.
Long shot? Sure. But I think it’s more possible than we think.

I wonder if not being good next to Rose is good...
…Even if teams want Hinrich as a traditional PG, most of the rumors have him going to places w/ ball-dominating PG’s—-Miami, Portland, etc.
They won’t handle it near as much Rose, of course, but they will in the 4th quarter… And they’ll definitely handle it more than Gordon has in the past, which is where Hinrich has excelled.
I don’t know. we’ll see. This sucks. Way to go, Paxson!

the good part
The Bulls are not making the playoffs and Kirk has been mired in a slump since the time he got spanked by Detroit in the playoffs. He is always looking down to the floor like playing had become torture. His shooting is as bad as Hughes and his confidence is shot. He can’t take too much responsibility because he sinks. Sefalosha will get more minutes and he is young and might get better instead of going downward like Kirk has been going. We should have traded him for a second round pick and a backup center with a similar contract.

This sucks
Kirk had a great game on Friday, and he probably would have stayed in that starter’s role. He was the only barrier against Larry Hughes getting significant playing time.

Hey, at least this (hopefully) means that BG is rightfully starting
If Hughes starts over him, though, the Kirk injury suddenly becomes a massive travesty

All it will take is
Gordon having one off game and Hughes will weasel in. Despite the fact Hughes always has bad games. I don’t want that to happen, but it very easily can. Because Hughes is tall and stuff.

great game Friday.. vs Suns???
I was there.. I didn’t see Kirk get much playing time. Especially in 2nd half??

He got hurt
a few minutes into the 3rd quarter. He wasn’t even on the bench much of the second half.
by sue369 on Nov 9, 2008 8:20 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
as sue said, he got injured in the 3rd quarter
but he had 5 steals and 5 assists (heh, and 5 pts – only 4 fg attempts) in 15 min. not too shabby at all.

for Nash never getting into the offense. That was key too.

Let's say the Bulls
are considering offers to move Kirk. Wouldn’t now be a good time, then, to do a Raef Lafrentz-for-Kirk Hinrich (and parts) trade? Raef hasn’t played, and neither will Kirk for quite some time. It gives the Bulls a chance to take care of the backcourt situation immediately (and start planning on how to build around Derrick Rose) and it gives the Blazers an opportunity to ease Kirk into the team.
I’m not saying the Bulls should necessarily do the trade (since having Kirk around is better than not having him around, at least for this season), but at least it would keep the Bulls guard situation less in limbo, roster-wise (Raef would not play a minute, under my plan).

And then, after the hypothetical deal is done,
The organization can say, “Hey Ben Gordon, all of a sudden we have one less guard and have a good chunk of money to spend in the offseason. We’d like to spend a lot of it on you, but you’ve got to really step it up this season.”
I know a Blazers-Bulls deal has been long discussed, but I believe it has some added relevance with Hinrich injured.

I don't know the exact article
but it looks like the stuff Hughes was saying about being in the playoffs that year with Cleavland. Hughes wanted his stats to look good. He didn’t really care if his team won or not. He was happy with the game as long as he looked good in it, not the win/loss at the end of the series.

this is the money quote
“It was a good run,” he [Hughes] said. “We had 50-plus wins, made the finals and I learned from it. I was unhappy, though, and wasn’t myself. I’d rather enjoy the game than all that.” I’d rather enjoy the game than win. Uggh. For some people, they can’t enjoy the game NLESS they win.
Larry sounds like an alright guy to play pick up basketball with. If he’s on the other team.

The team hasn't missed a beat with (Gordon and Rose)
Kirk take your time and heal 100%. The thousands of pre-teens and younger wearing #12 at the home game don’t even know your’re not playing, and still we continue to sell more of your jerseys. Their ticket buying parents just love the image. We’ll continue to show more of the same highlight reels of you making uncontested underhanded layups with only your right hand no matter which direction you attack (i mean approach) the rim to keep you fresh in their minds.
Don’t pay much attention that the #1 is now the top selling jersey because your’re #1 in our ….. and the only true pooh.
On the brighter side, you being hurt, quiets those who want you shipped out of Chicago.
I can now rest and take another vacation because no one has expectations of me, while you’re hurt.
We’ll never trade you.. forEver and forEver.
