An actual guard

would have been expecting to get the ball. Deng shouldn’t be passed the ball that far out considering the position he is playing and wasn’t expecting it as a result. If he was playing as a guard he would have been more likely looking for a pass there since his role would be different.

First comment of year

First time I’ve been on this blog this year. This team is just way too difficult to watch. It is not even enjoyable. They look like scrubs! Totally disorganized! I love how Deng is just standing there watching while D. Rose gets his own rebound. I’ll be back on when they finally pull their heads outta their ***es and fire Paxson. What a joke!

He’d better take him off the dribble! :)

Halftime discussion

Let’s say Ben Gordon solidifies himself as a starter for a good chunk of the season, his numbers are strong, and Bulls actually win a few games.

What are his chances of sticking around?

"MUAHAHAHA." - Evil Pax

by Evil Pax on Nov 8, 2008 8:43 PM CST reply actions

i believe

if they offer him more money than anyone else, ben will stay. I think he likes being in a big city (he’s from nyc, born in london), i think he likes the prospect of playing with D Rose and if he gets to start, he will love VDN.

But at the end of the day, the bulls have to make like jerry mcguire, and show him the money.

by DangerMouse on Nov 8, 2008 8:46 PM CST up reply actions

Yup. If he puts

up good numbers this season, good enough for us to want him for example, he will be getting offers elsewhere as well. The Bulls were hoping to get him on a down season. If this isn’t a down season he might look good enough for some competition.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

by cranscape on Nov 8, 2008 8:49 PM CST up reply actions

I'd say 50/50.

We have money freeing up, and nobody’s going to offer him over 10 million per, right? If Vinny makes him a starter this year for the rest of the season I don’t think Gordon would be TOO mad at the Bulls for the stupid contract thing.

by Prevenge on Nov 8, 2008 8:46 PM CST up reply actions

Hard to say what teams might offer him...

But as a un-restricted free agent I won’t blame him for holding the Bulls balls in a vice at all.

Don't call me doughboy!

by Khalid El-Amin on Nov 8, 2008 8:49 PM CST up reply actions

I don't think anyone ever thought BG couldn't start...

Or have good numbers.

The problem however remains that a starting backcourt of Rose and Gordon is awfully small, and will most likely be abused on the defensive end.

If however we want to be the Suns of the last few years (wo/ Shaq of course) and try and outscore everyone 120 – 115, then BG and Rose could work quite well together it seems.

Don't call me doughboy!

by Khalid El-Amin on Nov 8, 2008 8:47 PM CST up reply actions

we led the league in fg% D

with a backcourt of Hinrich and Gordon. I don’t think the drop off from Hinrich and Gordon’s D is that steep

by DangerMouse on Nov 8, 2008 8:48 PM CST up reply actions

As much as I hate to say it...

I do think Hinrich is a better defender than both Rose and Gordon.

Don't call me doughboy!

by Khalid El-Amin on Nov 8, 2008 8:50 PM CST up reply actions

but is he so much better than Rose

that we are going to fall apart without him? We will see how the D holds up with him gone for 3 months

by DangerMouse on Nov 8, 2008 8:52 PM CST up reply actions

Thabo will be our defensive stopper from the bench.

What we are really doing is switching our defense to the bench. If we have problems we can put a defensive stopper in. Which IMO is better than having offensive problems and pulling a guy in cold off the bench to shoot us back into games.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

by cranscape on Nov 8, 2008 8:53 PM CST up reply actions

agreed

if thabo plays well, we might not miss hinrich at all. here is his big chance, and it won’t come by forcing him to the starting line up and screwing up the offense.

by DangerMouse on Nov 8, 2008 8:57 PM CST up reply actions

If the abuse never materializes

then it doesn’t matter how short he is. Especially if offensively the whole team absorbs whatever we lose with the height. The offense works better with a shooter out there. It is hard to shop around for a shooter. With how fast we can play on young legs we will keep the other team off balance enough to win games.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

by cranscape on Nov 8, 2008 8:52 PM CST up reply actions

Oh, I completely agree...

Our offense is terrible without Gordon.

The problem is also that our frontcourt is still very much a work in progress (and probably will be forever). The idea that the rest of our team can absorb any defensive liability feels like a pipe dream at best.

Don't call me doughboy!

and, to me at least,

in order to pay him “Ben Gordon money,” he’d have to average at least 22 ppg and show up on defense consistently

so long as it's not on 9-for-35 shooting

I’m exaggerating, though

"MUAHAHAHA." - Evil Pax

by Evil Pax on Nov 8, 2008 8:54 PM CST up reply actions

Being on the floor

helps the entire offense. See how good Deng has been now that the lanes are open because the defense has to spread out to cover Gordon’s outside shooting? Our offensive improvement isn’t just magically happening. Gordon’s stat line is not just what should be taken into account. If he fits he fits. And you might have to pay him to stay. Either that or find a new SG.

of them are getting much run tonight. You’d think with Gooden out they’d split all the center minutes and have Tyrus and Noce split the PF minutes. Instead he’s got Tyrus guarding Ilgauskas some of the time. Weird.
