This is a test for VDN

I don't

but he’s playing good tonight

by Tobo on Nov 7, 2008 9:13 PM CST up reply actions

I haven't liked him since college

I think all he brings is tip ins and energy, if he bulks up maybe I’ll change my opinion. On the other hand Gray isn’t a better option so whatever. Plus he’s just so damn ugly :p.

by Tobo on Nov 7, 2008 9:16 PM CST up reply actions

But he's just like the best tipper-in in all of basketball.

and his energy, unlike, say, Nocioni’s, leads to a lot of opportunities for his teammates. he doesn’t demand the ball, and on any balanced team, you typically need one of those.

by tyger1147 on Nov 7, 2008 9:18 PM CST up reply actions

He's an amazing tipper-in

I just can’t stand him. Plus I don’t like hearing during last year and a little this year that he’s a little to lax, not taking things seriously. True we had problems last year, BIG problems, but that whole incident with his suspension and the team voting an extra day of suspension is troubling. Not saying it was right for the team to vote for another day, and who knows the exact details surrounding his suspension, to me, it just doesn’t show well on his character.

by Tobo on Nov 7, 2008 9:24 PM CST up reply actions

And let's look at who called the team meeting there...

case closed.

by cranscape on Nov 7, 2008 9:28 PM CST up reply actions

We don't know how things were day to day back then

Maybe there was more to the suspension, maybe he needed the extra day to drive home a lesson for whatever. I’m not going to argue if it was right or wrong to do it because there’s no way for us to know, but at least be open to the idea that maybe it was warranted.

by Tobo on Nov 7, 2008 9:32 PM CST up reply actions

Nope.

Judging by the character of Wallace, the man in charge, I don’t think so. Have you heard the news coming in about what was going on back then? Its been all over the podcasting world at least. Wallace was a bigger bum than we could have guessed. Any “taking charge” in the locker room he did was a joke after hearing what he was doing behind the scenes. The coaches had their backs against the wall with Wallace.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

by cranscape on Nov 7, 2008 9:37 PM CST up reply actions

Yea I heard about Wallace and

my bad, I thought it was griff who asked for it, but from what I read “a group of veterans approached the coaching staff” so whomever that means. I thought it was Griff, who while a bad player, seems like a good guy.

by Tobo on Nov 7, 2008 9:39 PM CST up reply actions

It was Griffin and Wallace.

Neither should be doing that based on what they were putting out on the court at the time. Wallace for both on court and off court reasons. Which is why I can’t trust the reasons behind doing what they did to a rookie. He had been punished by the coaches who knew the situation. That is all in the past of course, but considering what was going on I won’t hold it against Noah beyond the original punishment.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

Nah I think he was only in the lineup because of Shaq

and even though Shaq dissed the Bulls and decided to sit, VDN wasn’t gonna take Gray out after telling him he was getting the start, so he decided to just play him a quick 10 mins

Different types of players, too;

Mayo excels as a spot up shooter and defender, but he doesn’t have elite quickness and doesn’t break down defenses. He can be an excellent player, but he’s not a player you can build a team around. Derrick is.

I'm not so sure yet

This may be reminiscent of the 2006 class, where there are a lot of very good All-Star caliber players (Roy, Aldridge, Gay, and possibly Tyrus). 2003 saw the drafting of four different franchise players as well as a collection of very good players (Kirk, Ford, David West, Kaman, Josh Howard) that kind of luck is pretty rare.

the thing I’ve liked most about this year is Ben’s ball handling role. Yes, Rose is on the team and yes BG can be a turnover machine, but it’s making Kirk look a bit more expendable and maybe that can bring some frontcourt help.

Kirk played

absolutely incredibly defense last night on Nash. These last few games he’s been terrific on that end. He needs to be getting 30 minutes a night behind Rose and BG.

I noticed that too.

Kirk was all over him early on and Nash never got his shots going. For 15 minutes that wasn’t bad.

Absolutely

Kirk earned his “excellent defender” label last night. Nash never got in a rhythm, and to disrupt one of the greatest shooters in the league is a pretty good task.

and answer who should start with Rose when healthy?
Kirk
Ben
Larry
Thabo

that's a tough one

between Kirk and Ben.

-Kirk knows how to reverse the ball to the open shooter
-Ben is a shooter (KINDA)

so……Ben. I guess.

everyone?

His best position is bench player. He’s not had a good history starting. He’s had some good games, but a lot of stinkers as well. Let him keep coming off the bench, why mess with his success?

by kmatus on Nov 8, 2008 5:55 AM CST up reply actions

see? another hater

History of bad starts? That was skiles times man. One bad game and gordon would be benched for months. If we expect consistency from him we gotta give it too

by JustAnotherFan on Nov 8, 2008 6:46 AM CST up reply actions

Statistically he is about the same

starting as off the bench. That’s been pretty well documented here. What usually gets him is slow starts to the season. That’s why he got benched the last few years. And then when magically his game picks up in December people are all, “see it’s because he was benched” when really he always has slow starts even in the seasons when he started and he always picks his game up in December. This year he seems to be just fine early in the season. For the Bulls it means do you want your offense now or after you’ve gotten yourself in a hole. I want it now. It spreads the court out and helps everyone else on the team to have a shooter like that out there.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

Solid game, need to carry this defensive energy into tomorrow night's rematch

Stoudemire was sick as usual, but they forced tons of turnovers, it seems like every other play there was a Bulls player at least forcing a loose ball. Rose was awesome as usual, only made a few mistakes in the 4th when everyone was choppy, and that dunk on Barbosa was quality. Lu picked it up in the 2nd half (that strong cut Lu DO THAT MORE), BG had another solid shooting night playing more minutes alongside Rose. I’m loving seeing a transition play where Rose has the ball and BG just runs to the 3 point line knowing he’ll get the ball. Noah, again proving why he should be the starting center getting tons of offensive rebounds. Even Tyrus had a solid game.

"I’m gonna rise up, gonna kick a little ass. Gonna kick some ass in the USA. Gonna climb a mountain, gonna sew a flag, gonna fly on an eagle. I’m gonna kick some butt, gonna drive a big truck. A.S. - "Sick as usual" Well, yeah, at the line at least he was, but....

A.S. had 16-18 from the FT line, GOOD D by the Bulls here, not giving him easy dunks or layups.
But 5-10 FGs for the night, and just 7 boards. Sick, as usual? Not so sure.
Like to see more of this mentality, even if it means more fouls. Old-school, Dick Motta stuff.
The, “No dunks or easy layups” mentality. Earn it at the line, ok, but no slams in traffic vs 3 Bulls.
Getting dunked on all the time, has a psychologically demoralizing effect, and having to hit 2 FTs,
is more difficult than an easy dunk. When someone does get a couple of dunks, you knock them on their
ass the next time they come down the lane. It’s a MESSAGE! Nothing easy here. And it is a mindset of
a tough defensive team. WE DON’T GIVE YOU THE EASY ONES. NO. No dunks whenever possible.
CHALLENGE IT at least. Am I wrong here?

Oh, I thought that Tyrus Thomas was much better at his role, and TWO of his fouls were because he came to help on A.S. after he beat Noah once, and Gooden another time.
These types of fouls I can tolerate! Only launched a few ill-advised Js, but hit a couple too.
He should go to the hoop more, he can draw fouls or finish.

Both TT and Noah DO need to hit their throws.
If the Bulls were better at the line last night, it’s a total BLOW-OUT.
14-24 (58.3%) doesn’t cut in the NBA.

Another consideration for BG, the guy hits his throws.
Look, pretty simple really, some ball-handling issues aside,
which is why they have DR, BG actually had some sweet looks
in the game, 6 assists, and defensively, pretty good, he had a block in
that game that did not show up in the box score too actually. Maybe you
guys saw that, he got a small piece of a jumper that turned it into an air-ball.

He was hogging a bit at times, but still, easy choice over Thabo, Hughes, or Thabo.
ANYONE who cannot see that, is WATCHING ANOTHER TEAM. Sorry!

So, now that Hughes and Hinrich are injured and Thabo basically sucks,
I guess the genius VDN will start Gordon and Rose…
DOHHHHH!!!!

For Stoudemire to be hacked every time he was in the paint

He did his job. The Bulls D didn’t give him easy points, but he still almost dropped 30, that just shows how ridiculous this guy is.

Suns' defense is poor

but we need to see a whole lot more of these lineups.

Rose
Gordon
Deng
Thomas
Noah

Rose
Gordon
Deng
Gooden
Noah

But that defense was awesome. We were closing down lane openings in a hurry.

Yep. It's pretty clear at this point that those 2 lineups are the best.

And it’s really not even close. Too bad Hughes is back soon.

Yeah if Gooden is going to hit those jumpers and play real defense

I’m all for him getting minutes at the PF spot. I’d still like to see Tyrus play 30+ every game, but if Drew is going to produce on both ends then it’ll be fine.

Props from Paul Coro
Derrick Rose is more of an obvious joy to watch as a No. 1 pick. As the Suns built a team around Nash, you can see that his talent justifies the same thing happening in Chicago. And look how he learns on the job during an 18-point, 6-assist game. There was a transition play that Rose led. He came down the middle with space in front of him but forced a pass to Ben Gordon and turned it over. A play later, he was taking an outlet for another break. He shifted gears wide left and sized up Leandro Barbosa as if this was a Monta Ellis flashback, accelerating to dunk over Barbosa.
