Random Thoughts On The Bulls So Far.

Star-divide

·         I am man enough to admit when I am wrong. I am now officially part of the Derrick Rose fan club. It’s not that I didn’t like him before, it’s just that I wasn’t convinced that he would great. Five games into the season and Rose looks to be the best player to enter Chicago since you know who.

·         The offense reminds me of intramural , and pick up game offenses. Everyone takes a turn attacking the basket or launching some crazy contested jumper. I like freedom in the offense as much as the next guy, but VDN needs to crack down on these guys and tell them what their roles in the offense are.

·         When Rose gets the ball in the open court, players need to be sprinting down the court to catch up. Whenever Rose takes off, it seems like he’s the only Bull getting down the court. Maybe its because he’s faster than everybody else. Personally, I think it’s because they are either watching to see what he’s going to do, or it’s because they are lazy.

·         We have exactly to finishers on the team, Rose and Gordon. They need to be playing together as much as possible because they will make each other’s games easier. That being said, I would like to see Ben play off the ball more, but I believe that will come when Ben begins to trust Rose to get him his shots.

·         It’s disturbing to me that I have not seen Thomas unleash a particularly nasty dunk on anybody yet. He had a nice lob in the first game but nothing since then. He is playing soft, his shooting percentage was never that good, but he made up for it because he always got fouled trying to poster somebody.

·         I’m scared to death about what’s going to happen when Hughes comes back. I have the horrible nightmares about Hughes starting, and Rose standing in the corner waving his hands while Hughes tries to go one on five. Then another where VDN goes to a uber-small lineup featuring Thabo at C (because you know, he’s tall) and Hughes at PF. (On second thought I like that lineup, maybe Hughes and Thabo would get injured banging with people twice their size.)

·         VDN needs to put a shock collar or something on Gooden. That way when he takes a shot 2 feet inside the 3 point line VDN can shock him. Because it’s obvious that his 1.2% shooting percentage from that distance is not deterring him.

·         I would love to see the plus minus numbers for when Thabo is playing SG and when Gordon is playing SG. Ben just dropped 31 on the Cavs, and I’m pretty sure he scored on his man a lot more than his man scored on him.

·         I am getting tired of hearing about how the Bulls need a low post scorer. I know they need one, you know they need one, so why does every Tom, Dick and Harry need to say it all the time. I guess because it is easier then saying that what the Bulls really need is someone that cannot be consistently stopped one-on-one, and creates nightly mismatches.

I’ve got more, but nothing that could be turned into a coherent thought.

Though one problem with that those numbers would be Thabo is playing almost exclusively with Rose.

True. But I'm sure we agree that Thabo is not half the player Ben is and should not be starting.

This is almost like Duhon all over again though. Only the Bulls (and apparently the Knicks) would start a player that probably wouldn’t start for any other team in the NBA.

Never fear, we have the numbers from last year

Thabo offense -3.24/defense +2.54 total = -0.7

Gordon offense +0.1/defense -3.47 total = -3.37

And don’t worry yfbb, Rose isn’t even a factor in these numbers.

Wow!

Michael Ruffin = starting PF.
Why doesn’t Vinny see this?!?

He might soon.

He sees Aaron Gray = starting C alongside Drew Gooden = starting PF…
…going up against Robin Lopez and Amare Stoudemire.

Obviously Rose is Bulls best player

I agree with most of the post, but the line up right now is probably the best the Bulls can do. I can see Ben moving to the starting line up, but the burst of the second unit would suffer. I don’t mind Thabo starting because of his length and defense. He is not an offensive threat and for him to get about 10-15 mins is good. Larry will take his spot when he returns. Maybe he can bring some offense to the starting unit. The Bulls need to play Larry if they want to make a trade available to get rid of him.

I have watched all the games, both pre and regular season. Gooden, Hinrich, and Noc are so far the best complimentary players to Rose. Those are the only guys who are making shots and plays and seem to have some offensive flow to the game. I don’t like Gooden playing center and would prefer Noah starting for him, but if Gooden didn’t start, who else in the starting line up would score points besides Rose? When Rose is playing, it seems like guys are watching him instead of reacting to his play making. I don’t know if it is because they are trying to work within Vinny’s system or if they just don’t how to play with an explosive point guard. Luol and Tyrus seem lost out there. When Rose is exploding on a fast break, his freaking teammates need to be following him, but no one does. I don’t get it. Ben is starting to put up good numbers, but he is a bit behind because of his lack of a preseason play.
