For better or worse, Gordon is apparently going to shoot

every time he gets the ball.

Sometimes, good, Sometimes, no.

For all you Gordon apologists

The play with 10.34 remaining in the fourth quarter is emblematic of why he is simply unwatchable and can never be a starter, or for that matter even a contributer on a championship caliber team. You may recall that he stormed into the lane on a drive like a Bull in a china shop and splattered himself on the floor like a sack of bricks dropped from the roof of a three story building lost the ball of his knee, forehead and any other body part not associated with actual ball handling. Naturally no foul was called and Gordon dragged himself to his feet like Jim Brown after a game in which he rushed for 300 yards. Then he threw his hands up in the air with that braindead look on his face that he always gets after one of his patented drives which always end with him sprawled on the floor while the other team races down the floor for an easy transition basket. The fact that this is a normal play for Gordon should leave no room for debate with anyone with even a middling basketball I.Q.

Yea, he make a couple of ridiculous shots tonight, but they were still ridiculous. Even if he was the second coming of Michael Jordan & Wilt Chamberlain combined on offense it wouldn’t make up for his absolute lack of any other discernable basketball skills, zero, zip, nada. Couple that with his complete lack of any internal organs necessary for successfull human activity (i.e. a heart or a brain for starters) and you have the most uselessly one dimesional player in the history of a league full of useless one dimensional humans.

It must be by design that Gordon is running the offense.

He just did it coming out of a break.

A dubious design, but a design.

If it's a 10-team league with normal depth:

drop him. Pick up Jason Thompson or Jason Maxiell. If it’s a keeper league, keep him for a while more. If it’s a deeper league, hang on to him. He’ll be inconsistent, but he’ll give you stats you can’t get anywhere else for the same price.

Trade Tyrus to the Heat for Wade and Marion….the Heat are worse off than us anyway, they can see Tyrus improve, and meanwhile won’t lose Marion for nothing. As a sweetener for the Heat, we can give them Hughes and Thabo….there you go :)

He just dribbled casually up the court, sauntered to the elbow, and threw up a jumper with 20 seconds left on the shot clock.

Maybe Ben is handling the ball as much as he is

because they’re trying to see if he can play PG in a surreptitious manner. This would allow them to deal Hinrich hopefully for frontcourt help.

There's nothing surreptitious about his playing PG. His domination of the ball is pretty obvious.

And there’s really no point in auditioning him for the post of backup anyway as he’s probably gone after this year.

Rose is doing what good PGs do.

He’s creating ball movement. The rest of the team isn’t cooperating and stalling the ball. Rose should be seeing the ball come back to him in the rotation, but he’s not. The solution isn’t to always run Rose iso dribble drive; the solution is to teach the rest of the team to swing it. This is basic stuff. I remember Hinrich being better at this when he was at Kansas. So soon they forget . . .

Screen roll with Mo Williams and LeBron

makes me now wonder why the Bulls don’t try that at all with Deng as tyger mentioned earlier. Is it an indictment of Deng in some fashion?

by messwiththebull on Nov 5, 2008 9:29 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Deng isn't athletic enough to guard anybody

That seems to be the patern so far this year. Everybody he has guarded has blown by him as if he were wearing lead shoes. Jefferson, Pierce, TurkeyGlue, and Lebron. Deng is literally a stiff, notice how he never seems to bend at the waist. This is a trait that is always highly valued by NFL talent evaluators. Usually it relates to overall athleticism. Maybe we could merge Deng and Thomas into one player, then we would have 2/3 rds to 3/4ths of a complete player.

Just repeat this mantra: rebuilding year. Rebuilding year.

This was a winnable game. So was the last one. We should take solace in the fact that we were competing, and in it until the end. The teams we’ve played against have established stars and systems. Our schtick is all new. This will take time. Depending on how long it takes, we might compete this year, we might not. But we need to know by the trade deadline whether certain guys will work with Rose, and it’s too early to jump to conclusions. Although I’m close on concluding about Ben. I mean, dude needs to chill.

by arjoseph on Nov 5, 2008 9:35 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Dude, so am I.

But we’ve got a huge piece in Rose. This is a blueprint that we can buy at Lowe’s. Instead of trying to build the weird magic that the Pistons had of no-star competence with a team full of role players, we can now enter a more normal phase: building around a franchise playmaker. (I’m not even going to dignify the Tyson/Eddy period as a “phase”; just bad scouting. Bad.) Pax can figure this out. Give it two years to get the pieces in place. I’m thinking Gordon is not one of those pieces. Neither is Kirk. Those are our trade chips, and I’d be willing to throw in Noc or Tyrus (who could work, but aren’t ideal) to sweeten deals that get us what we need. Patience!!

by arjoseph on Nov 5, 2008 9:42 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Can the Bulls even negotiate a new contract for BG...

so a sign and trade could happen? I’m guessing no will bite on BG because they will be able to sign him for waaaay less than the Bulls offered him…twice…this summer. My guess, he will be back with the Bulls in an Al-Davis-type-three-times-as-much-money-as-nobody-was-offering-type-deal because I’m not sure Pax A) has the stones to makes real trades and B) Is allowed to run the team the way he wants to.

And if so, do you know anything about basketball? Ben killed any offensive chemistry or flow we had. Sure, he made some plays, but this isn’t Rucker Park. This isn’t And-1. If Ben keeps playing like this, he’s only slightly better than Hughes.

That was a disheartening game.

I primarily blame coaching and defense for this performance.

I am also concerned that Rose and Gordon, both of whom are good players on their own, are incompatable. Only one guy can dominate the ball in the halfcourt offense.

it's hard to rebound when you have three 6'3" and under players

playing at the same time. Blame VDN for the lack of rebounding. He went to the dreaded 3 guard lineup…with BG as PG(!)

he didn't keep us in the game. he made some shots and he missed some shots

but he dominated the ball and we failed to get consistently good looks. that’s why BG dominating the ball is fool’s gold.

um 31 points….11-19 and 5-9 from three….who else can do that on the team? he kept us in…

by kpop7 on Nov 5, 2008 9:54 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

no, he didn't. we lost by double digits. Ben dominating the ball hurt the offense.

He scored a lot, but we didn’t move the ball and everyone else got out of rhythm. It wasn’t reflected in Ben’s numbers (so I’m sure he won’t care about it) but he killed any sort of offensive flow and to say that he “kept us in it” is simply just not seeing the forest for the trees. We got beat by double digits even with Ben dropping 31. Points aren’t the only thing that matter.

by fundamentallysound on Nov 5, 2008 9:58 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

its the starts that kill us!

really we always get off to slow starts…..we need to plug in BG for SG so we can get off to a better offensive start

i do want gordon to start

but fs is right here, he does kill the chemistry. if he can settle into a role to work with rose, i want to see him get there, but i hardly saw him pass and he trips over his own feet dribbling, while rose is just standing there. that’s unacceptable.

by Jaina on Nov 5, 2008 10:16 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

i agree...

that Rose should be point….but BG only had 2 turnovers…I think that if u gave BG more minutes….he would be more willing to adapt to team ball…but thats not the case with him coming off the bench…his role then is Microwave GOrdon

by kpop7 on Nov 5, 2008 10:18 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

i'm surprised it was only 2...

it was 2 crucial ones then.

i don’t know… the team just looks broken. it’s not just him. but as great as he was in moments, he’s not helping the team that much.

by Jaina on Nov 5, 2008 10:21 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I do agree there, but if Ben is going to make it on this team

he needs to defer to Rose and stop pounding the rock so much and learn how to move off the ball like Reggie Miller, Rip Hamilton, Ray Allen, etc. Rose will find him. Sefolosha needs to sit down and not get anymore minutes or get traded. Preferably the latter.

by fundamentallysound on Nov 5, 2008 10:17 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

also, BG should never be PG when Rose is on the floor. EVER.

Rose can penetrate without actually falling down and losing the ball and then BG can get some better looks than the ones he was hitting tonight, but he also missed a bunch.

blah

i hate the cavs.

luol needs to be aggressive, but the other guys need to get him the ball more, make sure he gets involved. whether that means calling some plays for him or something, i dunno.

gordon needs to never ever dribble. ever again. it’s ok for him to create his own shot, but he doesn’t have the body control that rose does and can’t drive into the big guys unless he learns this. which he won’t, since he’s a 5th year player already.

thabo needs to sit.

i actually liked the wired part on vdn, he was actually making sense, but too bad the bulls were not doing anything like what he was telling them… and it actually made me feel a little better about him and hopefully he’ll gain more control over the team.

by Jaina on Nov 5, 2008 9:45 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Give Noah more Minutes, Trade Kirk

Hinrich is not an off guard at all, he’s a point guard, his defense isn’t good when he’s guarding 6’5" plus tall guys. Tyrus has no role out there, or isn’t being aggressive. Rose looks good, maybe if guys would run the floor with him. Say what you want about Gordon, but the guy comes to play and is our second best player behind Rose. I don’t see how we can get a difference maker in the post this season. Maybe we could get Boozer in the off season. .

by armstrong2389 on Nov 5, 2008 9:45 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Everyone besides Rose is tradeable. I'm a huge Tyrus guy, but if VDN isn't going to develop him

and he continues to make less than 30% of his FGs then he needs to go too. This team needs to be completely torn down. Also, I don’t think Vinny is going to end up being a good or even competent coach. He looks lost out there. It is readily apparent that the Bulls have no offensive philosophy, they all just ISO when they have the ball. There’s no movement, there’s no set plays. The only time they look like they know what to do is in the fast break and that’s more a function of Derrick Rose being great at that part of the game and the fact that it’s not a set play. They have no offensive sets. This is a garbage team with garbage coaching. There’s only one bright spot and his name is Derrick Rose.

it doesn't look like they give a shit what he says. that could be because all he gave them for advice

was “drive and kick, drive and kick, drive and kick”… they quit on this game with about 3 and a half minutes to go. Gooden and others underneath the hoop saw that people were just bombing from outside and stopped going for loose balls off the rim.

That's the funny thing. They DIDN'T drive and kick.

In fact, they haven’t done it all season.

This is what I had envisioned: Rose gets the ball, penetrates, forces the defense to collapse, then finds Gordon or Luol open for a jumper.

That doesn’t happen. Instead, in the half court, Gordon pounds the ball and fires up shots for better or worse.

I also

Hate the little Noah sitings…..let’s give him some time. THe Kid looked good in stretches last year.

He can do a lot of little things that’ll help this team.

I know Drew Gooden’s a decent player and all, and that he’s reasonably young, but Drew will only always be a good player, he’ll never be more, and Drew has 1 good game 2 bad games….

Tyrus and Noah don’t look too great yet in this new offensive system or new coaching style, but give them time to learn….I know it’s hard early in the year, and I’m sure Paxson can’t go out there and say this early that we’re rebuilding yet….although anybody and everybody knows that this really is a rebuilding year….so let’s rebuild…we really only need 1 piece, it’s just that we drastically and dramatically need that one piece so badly that it makes all our talent look just good enough to keep a game fairly competitive and lose by 8-15 pts in the end…

Let’s develop our guys….and use this season to re-evaluate what we’ve got, now that we have our superstar in the making and a coach who appears to be doing a solid job with what he does have.

What I'm scared off is...

that Skiles and Boylan may actually have known what they were doing when they benched TT.

Today, the biggest issue we face imo is:

That small ball lineup. Why on Earth would you do that when getting killed on the boards? Why would you not put your young bigs – whom apparently are supposed to have a future with the team – out there ehen they could be best utilized?

I know every day there is a different thing with this team, but today i think thats whats frustrated me the most

by rquinsee on Nov 5, 2008 10:10 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

and for the guys on espn saying “this is their best offensive lineup” they aren’t considering the defensive ramifications…. they can’t go on a run with their offense if they can’t get a rebound or play good defense.

Has Vinnie ordered Tyrus not to ever shoot again in the flow of the offense?

In the 3rd quarter, I can’t remember him getting a single touch, but is that because his 2 for 22 nights have made him afraid to make a mistake and totally neutralized whatever he could bring to the table.

They have got to run some plays for him even if he fails. Otherwise this team has no prayer of advancing with the midget lineups that get murdered in the paint and on the boards. Tyrus really does have great potential upside but has been jacked around so much with a short chain, he has become passive and soft.

If you can't answer a man's arguments, all is not lost. You can still call him vile names.

Small Ball?, more like Midget Ball

Even in our regular rotations we are already playing small ball. The correct term for the 3 guard featuring Hinrich, Gordon and Duhon(ooops I mean Rose, I thought it was still last season) would be midget ball with only Rose having appropriate NBA size, stength and athleticism.
