Lineups

Well, somebody (cough*VDN*cough) obviously has lineup troubles. So, I've put together a self-thought-up bundle of data to figure out what the best lineup we could use is. First off, what position is everybody?

Derrick: He's only a 1.

Lindsay: He's only a 1.

Kirk: He's a 1 or 2.

Ben: He's only a 2

Larry: He's only a 2

Thabo: He's a 2 or 3

Luol: He's only a 3

Andres: He's a 3 or 4

Tyrus: He's only a 4

Drew: He's only a 4

Joakim: He's a 4 or 5

Aaron: He's only a 5

Next, I'll rank the available players at each position:

PG: Derrick, Kirk, Lindsay

SG: Ben, Kirk, Thabo, Larry

SF: Luol, Andres, Thabo

PF: Tyrus, Drew, Andres

C: Joakim, Aaron

Combine this with development, and you've got the following lineup:

PG: Derrick gets 35 minutes, Kirk gets 10, Lindsay gets 3

SG: Ben gets 30 minutes, Thabo gets 10, Kirk gets 8, Larry gets 0

SF: Luol gets 30, Andres gets 15, Thabo gets 3

PF: Tyrus gets 25, Drew gets 15, Andres gets 8

C: Joakim gets 30, Aaron gets 18

This means that Tyrus and Joakim both get 30 minutes for gettting better, and Thabo would get a decent 13. I think this is the best way for us to win, though if Joakim or Aaron go down we're screwed.

This is actually very nicely organized and for the most part correct. The only thing I disagree with is that Drew is obviously better than Tyrus so far this season, but I assume you put Tyrus there for developmental purposes.

agree.

I also think that Gray is a bit better than Noah. In some situations, Gray is much better and in some Noah will be better. Nether is any good. Maybe backups on most teams. Tyrus is not an NBA talent unless he focuses on developing a game a la Kevin Willis. He is trying to be a Dominique Wilkins, but that is a pipe dream. Paxson’s legacy will be his lack of talent evaluation at the BIG positions.

Noah's strictly better than Gray,

BUT not right now, with the ‘having no conditioning’ thing.

"You remember the first time you picked up a basketball video game and you had no idea how to run plays, so you just gave the ball to your shooter and you ran around the court aimlessly until a defender was far enough away and then you jacked up a shot? THAT IS LARRY HUGHES!"

ummm...

thabo has been trash this year…hughes hasnt been great all year..but a lot more productive than thabo…he should be first off of the bench behind ben

We have to be confident that Thabo will get better.

That can only happen if he gets minutes. Hughes isn’t in any of our plans, and we should just let him rot away.

Things could be worse. We could have kept (name redacted).

by stupidgenius on Nov 27, 2008 7:17 PM CST up reply actions

Not really...

Thabo has the third highest PER of rotation players at 16.2, while Hughes has a PER of 12.9.

In the four games Thabo has played over 20 minutes, he has averaged 10 points 2 assists, 3 rebounds on better than 50% shooting in 23MPG…he plays well when given extended minutes. The coaching staff is massaging Larry’s ego rather than playing the best players.

Joakim

would be lying on the floor heaving up last night’s chalupa after at the thought of even playing 30 minutes in a single game…

Gooden...

is better than Tyrus. What is your argument?

by McCabe on Nov 27, 2008 10:30 PM CST reply actions

The starting lineup should be

5 – Gray: too slow to run the floor and defend well, but he is TALL.
4 – Noah: Not enough offensive skills for the 4, but he is TALL.
3 – TT: Lacks the outside shooting and ball handling for the 3, but he is TALL.
2 – Deng: Not quick enough for the 2, but he is TALL.
1 – Hughes: Not a good player or PG, but he is TALL.

I really didnt care about people making fun of height factors

But this comment has completely sucked any future laughter coming from me caused by laugh jokes….

Well, people keep on ragging on BG

just because he is somewhere between 6’2" and 6’3", when it is really not that big of a deal. There have been great short defenders in the NBA and lousy tall defenders. I mean, these people would have had Charles Barkley, Dennis Rodman, Wes Unseld and Isaiah Thomas on the bench for being too short.

Defense has become a farse

What really pisses me off is Vinny saying before the game "Our bigs have to rebound better, our team has to get stops and play defense. If he really cares about rebounding and defense why he put up a lineup build on speed and not defense.

D. Rose G 39:55 5-11 10 pts – Decent defender but he’s a rookie – should be the PG always, not only when the game is on the line and we know we can’t trust BG of LH.

B. Gordon G 38:10 9-16 23 pts – Bad defender.. Playing in position but he can’t stop Manu or Hill.

D. Gooden C 31:13 9-17 20 – He is out of position. Not a center and can’t stop the Big Fundamental.

 L. Hughes F 39:50 4-14 8 – Playing out of position. Undersized in the small forward position.

SO WHAY does Vinny appear to really care about defense when he clearly does not care!!!!

Dude .. what do base your rankings on?

They seem highly off in most positions besides the starters (PG, SG, PF) with the exception of PF which is really off at the starter position.

man up!
