The Knicks Blog: Hinrich almost dealt for Harrington, until injury
Of course, this could've happened over the summer, there was plenty of time in July after Rose was drafted and the Bulls 'almost' had 2 new coaches. I'm guessing they were about to trade Hinrich, but Pax was waiting for Reinsdorf to draft up the 'apology to Chicago and America' to be signed with blood and teardrops after the deal was done. (wow, that was a bit cynical)
Can't help but think the Bulls are just leaking coulda-wouldas to palpate our vicious appetite for a trade. Little do they know it just makes them look more inept, not proactive.

though actually
a Hinrich-Harrington swap is pretty cruddy return.

When the Kirk injury first happened,
I was pretty upset. Now I don’t think it’s that big a deal. Kirk will always be worth more than the Men of 2010 (queue up the Broadway brass section) with their expiring deals; that’s a nice floor in terms of value for him, and there’s no available bigs (other than Brad Miller) that I really want. It’s not as if Harrington was the answer down low, unless we’re looking to pair Larry Hughes with another self-deluded malcontent.
As I posted earlier (inadvertantly starting the “rec war”) Derrick’s changed my thinking with regard to the Bulls and free agency. I never would have thought that the kid would be good enough that we could think championship contender in 2010, but it’s legitimately the case, which makes me less excited about players like Kaman. Good player? Hell yeah. But unless Pax can be certain to have enough $ to pair him with Bosh or Amare, I’m not interested.
In other words: Al would’ve been helpful in that he expires in 2010. But not any more helpful than any of the other 2010 deals.
No biggie.

The Bulls would never release "misinformation"
That is in conflict with their process. I’m glad they didn’t do that deal.

If Gordon would have signed.
Would this have been a done deal? If so, at least something positive came from Gordon’s contract situation…Al Harrington is redundant on a team with Noc and Gooden.

Getting Al Harrington would have meant...
Rose, Hughes, Deng, Harrington and Gooden as our starters.
Not bad but not a big improvement over our present situation.

Which is good, because it also would have freed up Nocioni to be traded.

I think we could trade Noc now...
I just don’t think they want to. It’s not like he’s a starter and clearly “prime-time” Hughes and “pine-time” Sefolosha could play the 3 as well.
Glad we didn’t get Harrington and his bad attitude. Plus, I’m really starting to think McGraw’s article (posted on here a few days ago) could be a possibility and give the Bulls the advantage in pulling a major free-agent-to-be at the end of 2009.

HARRINGTON HAS AN EXPIRING DEAL! (according to ESPN trade macine)
Which would have given the financial flexibility to either sign Gordon or wait for a 2010 free agent.
Instead of Kirk’s contract (this season + 3 more).

Trade machine shows option years as if they'll be turned down
Harrington has a player option. Which he’ll probably take.
