The one thing this franchise (and this fan) can't endure is an injury to Derrick
Rose.
I thought he kneed in the nuts, but now it looks more serious. Hip bruise.
Damn it, he literally looked unstoppable in the fourth quarter. That fade away off the glass was sick.
Now we have to wait for the injury reports.

If it was serious
he would have gone to the locker room. He just needs to learn to protect himself. No biggie.

Chi radio says hip pointer/hip bruise.
Could be code for “my balls hurt.”
The guy is even better than I imagined, and I had high expectations.

Vinny was joking with him
on his way to the locker room. It really looks like nothing.
Asked what kind of player he expects to be in the next five years, he said: "Not a star, but like, a superstar. Something around, like, Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, something like that."

Fluky shooting nights from Hughes and Hunter
But a solid 18 and 16 from Gooden, and we survive another off night from Gordon. And holy fucking crap, Derrick Rose is unbelievable.

Thabo
looked good today.
Hopefully we have more adventures in small sample size next game, I want to see if he can keep this up.

Ditto, I was really liking what I saw out of Thabo...
his D was solid and he took what they gave him. And a few 3’s even fell for him! Like seeing him in the 3 spot as well (or was he the 4 tonight? Who knows…)

I saw the boxscore..uh what the...WHAT THE F*CK ?1?
So Hughes is good as both teams agree not to play defense(Nellieball) ?
Ditto for Thabo.
But Gordon regressed?
Strange, strange game.
by KentuckyBullsFan on Nov 22, 2008 12:17 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
Gordon regressed? I guess his defense was down this game? Maybe the rebounds
Hughes pops 5/7 from 3 pt land sinks 26, has more steals in 5 games than Gordon in 12, close to the same rebounds as Noah or Grady in only his 5th game back from an awesome preseason, and headline is Rose has 24. Hate to to let air out of the reincarnation of Michael, but its 12 games, don’t make anyone a HERO or blast the new coach (when his support staff has coached more games than you have watched, so don’t sweat the rookie crap).
Thabo, now there is everyone’s replacement for Hughes, what is he’ about 7% from 3 point range over 3 years now and the concern is someone that can hit from the 3 point line? Then steals, damn, a defensive powerhouse.
Rose is great, a couple of veteran point guards are coming his way right when he hits that 25 game mark, his average games played over the past five years with High School. Let’s see what he has against a solid point guard and a big man in the paint (better stay out of that house, the paint, if he wants to see 50 games this year.

"Off" Night from Gordon?
That’s the only kind of night Gordon has. He’ll post back to back 30 point nights to get everybody’s hopes up, then shoot 35% the next 10 games. Please get rid of him. PLEASE.

that Gordon’s PER in the season so far is something like 19.

Gordon sucked tonight.
Or did you not watch the game…he continued his selfish play, taking bad shots, turning the ball over, all the while continually getting abused on the defensive end by Jackson…

by Dionysus2.0 on Nov 22, 2008 12:26 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
pretty predictable by you
Jackson abused everyone who guarded him tonight…especially Thabo and Hughes…or did you just choose to ignore that part?
He had a +/- of 0 tonight…which means he was neither good nor bad…he held his own. Also, might I add that he tied for TOs tonight with Rose, at 5 apiece…but I guess you chose to ignore that too.
by NormVanBeer on Nov 22, 2008 12:40 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Stats to the rescue.
Did you watch the game…and see Gordon dribble off his leg or lose the ball dribbling behind his back? Did you see the consecutive possessions in the second quarter when Jackson backed him into the post and scored…did you see Gordon miss his rotation on a Maggette drive?
I don’t understand what the performance of other players has to do with the performance of Gordon…I mean, Gordon sucks and Rose turns the ball over…those two things are independent of one another…if another player does something poorly, it does not excuse the player in question from his shortcomings…
"The whole leverage thing, it's a difficult thing to gauge" -Paxson
by Dionysus2.0 on Nov 22, 2008 12:56 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
but to cherry pick Gordon's shortcomings is easy
you seem to have it down pat. How can you cherry pick Gordon “turning the ball over”, but not Rose? How can you cherry pick Gordon “getting abused by Jackson”, but nobody else?
Did you not watch Noc on defense tonight? He was beyond horrid.
You’re pretty lame for constantly cherry picking the bad things Gordon does, when it’s more than obvious he was doing some positive things out there tonight.
by NormVanBeer on Nov 22, 2008 1:00 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
just checking
but isn’t rose a rookie and this is gordon’s 4th year in the league?
by wilsoneads on Nov 22, 2008 1:26 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Cherry-picking?
Give me a break. You make it sound like ppl are reaching here. Did you watch the game? In his 41 min, tell me what BG did well?
A blind man can see how terrible BG has been this trip. And this is what he does, on and off, every year. Just because he started out the season shooting well for a change, that doesn’t mean we haven’t seen this crappy play before. We’ve seen it over and over again. He’s the best, then he’s the worst. He is incapable of being consistent. Great teams need consistently great players. That’s why I don’t see him being a Bull after this year.
If his jump shot isn’t falling, or if he can’t get it off, he doesn’t contribute. And his jump shot hasn’t fallen this trip, and he hasn’t been able to create, yet Vinny has kept him in the game so we’re stuck with a black hole at guard. I’m not even going to pick on his D, but when he’s not contributing on the O end it’s hard to watch the other guards, all of whom are clearly better defenders, sit on the bench.
His stats the last three games are pretty bad. 16 for 49 from the field, 4 for 21 from the arc. Perfect from the line, but only 11 trips there, including 0 yesterday. 10 TOs, 4 stl, 1 blk, 10 ast, and 7 rebs (5 in LA, but only 1 in PORT & GS) total on this trip. The alarming part for me is this is while he’s averaging a team high 36 min/game- including a team high 41 against GSW.
Just last night did you see him dribble the ball off his foot out-of-bounds in the back court with no opponent around? How about when he tried to dribble behind his back seconds later and his left arm forgot it was supposed to be on the receiving end of the dribble and instead he elbowed the ball out of bounds? How many charges did he have? The most offensive one to me was when they put the ball in his hands at the end of the game and he tried to create for himself: beeline left to the baseline just in time to put his head down and get called for a charge. Ug.
This is nothing new. The shocking part to me is that at least half of this fanbase on BaB- who probably all remembers what a championship caliber team looks like- really thinks BG deserves the money he’s asking and the starting spot he desires. I don’t.
by smash! on Nov 22, 2008 12:06 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Well said.
He is a streaky offensive player, and when he is cold, the coaching staff needs to put him on the bench.

ben gordon is pretty consistent
for not giving the ball to rose when he calls for it, and of course closing out quarters. i mean he added something last night to the colse out. not only did he lose the ball off the foot, but he also got a foul leading to 2 GSW free throws. see, he’s added something to his game if u ask me.

I was pointing out that if Gordon has both good and bad games, he cannot just have bad games,
and also what Norm said.
He’s had a couple of bad shooting nights in a row but he’s still been contributing with drives and playing [what’s looked to me like] decent defense, something he hasn’t done before.

All I know is that Gordon's terrible
And that if it’s not inherently right, it’s pretty darned close. The guy is an inconsistent ballhog who makes rookie mistakes. He needs to go bye-bye.
by wilsoneads on Nov 22, 2008 12:23 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed
He is terribly inconsistant. I don’t want us to resign him at all…Let some other team overpay for him. I was getting ripped for saying we should let him go and draft Steph Curry if no good bigmen are availible. Curry is more consistant, better defensively, and is a better ball handler.

getting rid of both makes more sense than keeping one due to the weaknesses in thier games.

You guys kill me focusing in when Gordon has a bad shooting night. Did ANYBODY see Noc play tonight? I’m just saying…because he played like complete shit. Did everybody close their eyes when Noc was on the floor?

Gordon gets an unreasonable amount of love on this board?
I see lots of people criticizing Gordon and a couple people defending him.
And the criticism is generally over the top nonsense that would be dismissed out of hand if it were applied to other players. To me, that indicates the critics mostly criticize because of their skewed perception about what other people think in the first place. In short, you, for example, have some kind of personal thing going on that carries over to how you view games. Which is ok, I guess, but it’s not my cup of tea.

I said very early on in this thread what I think.
I said Gordon sucked tonight. It wasn’t until the other posters accused of cherry picking or picking on Gordon that I mentioned why criticize his game more closely. And frankly, he’s earned greater scrutiny, because he turned down over $50 million, meaning he thinks he is worth more than that.

If there's anyone who would be getting "unreasonable" love here
It’d be Tyrus. BG has earned most fans’ respect because of what he’s done for this team for 3 winning seasons. He’s not perfect, nor is he going to make any All-Star teams. But, you know what? He’s the best shooting guard we have on our roster, and that’s an undeniable fact. Gordon isn’t Aaron Gray, some scrub who is meaningless to the team’s success.
Why certain people go out of their way to point out Gordon’s failures when everyone but Rose on the team is failing is perplexing to me. Deng deserves probably more criticism given he got the huge deal and is doing his best Swayze impression.

A substantial number of your
posts are transparent apologies for Gordon’s play. So you reflexively defend Gordon, but when the true emerging superstar of the team, the future of the franchise, does the very thing that Gordon is generally incapable of doing (i.e. consistently dominating in the fourth quarter), you admonish the fans to calm down?!
Rose is the best player on this team. By far. He is better than Gordon will ever be. So I don’t think there is anything wrong with being extraordinarily excited about his tremendous fourth quarter performance.
As Neil Funk said on Comcast, the Bulls finally have a true go-to player.

Actually, the Knicks legitimately awesome announcer,
Clyde Frazier, was hilarious about the whole thing. I tuned in for just a few minutes and here’s what he said – Why would a superstar come here when the cubbard’s going to be empty? Why not take max money from another team ready to win? Why would Bosh, a small town guy, want to play with the pressure of NYC? Why would Wade ever want to leave Miami?
It was beautiful. There was actually dead air time. Then the other announcer said, well, everybody wants to play for the greatest city in the world.
Quoth Clyde Frazier: “That’s our arrogance talking. Other people don’t think so.”

They decide everything that happens in sports now. If they need some money, they follow Barry Bonds hitting 73 home runs. If they need some money the year after that (since the story is dead) they talk about how Bonds hit 73 home runs on steroids. They didn’t have to expose that story every single day for four hours a year straight. But they did because why? It makes them monaaaaay!

Bay area Bulls fand repreSENT!!!
I just got back from the game and I’d say there were several hundred Bulls fans sprinkled through the arena. I was there with my brother and another friend from the Chi and we were keeping it rowdy. I’ve been to see the Bulls play the Warriors each of the last six years and this is only the second time I’ve seen a win (the first being Duhon’s game of his life last year with 31 in the game, 24 in the first half—Tyrus was also great in that game, oh Tyrus…).
Rose quieted the crowd over and over and over down the stretch with his killer jumpshooting. That kid is sooooooooo good. In person he actually looks pretty short, like about the same as Gordon, but it’s really startling how much power and speed he plays with, even just on little juke moves and cuts and dribbles. I was worried he was headed to another mediocre game after only 2 points in the first half but OMFG did he break through and deliver.
As for the Warriors we had no answer for Biedrins who seemed to get 15 offensive rebounds (really it was more like five but he scored on all of them). Gooden had a nice game but its tough to watch us get abused like that by a merely above average center. Yes I know Biedrins is having a good year but still. And then there’s Stephen Jackson. The guy is a mess and I’d never want him on my team but he sure can play basketball.
So in the coming months as we’re all shitting on Paxson demanding trades etc., let’s remember that in the most important choice of his tenure thus far he chose Rose over Beasley. The consensus at the time was that the Bulls needed inside scoring and that Rose would take too long to develop. Does anyone question that he made the right pick now? Anyone? Thirteen games into his pro career and he’s already established himself as an elite player. Think about that.
So in a couple days or a week or whatever I’ll be back to bitching about Gordon and Hughes and how we have no real offense or defense to speak of, but for the time being I’m going to bask in the glow of my massive D-Rose man crush.
Sigh…

My thoughts
Yeah, Gordon had a crummy game. But all the nonsensical ranting his silly. He’s been our second best player this year by a pretty wide margin. Even good players have bad games pretty frequently. Likewise to the various folks who think a rare good game in a sea of mediocrity means something about Larry Hughes.
Thabo’s actually put together a string of fairly solid play. Although his defense was just as bad, if not worse, than Hughes and Gordon’s last night, I still think he had a good night. What you have to understand, though, is that a good night for Thabo is quite a bit different than a good night for Rose, Gordon or even Hughes. Thabo is as far away from replacing Gordon (or even Hughes as a scorer) as Gordon is far away from replacing Rose.
No word I can tell about why Noah didn’t play. Trade or doghouse?

Sorry, but the Ben Gordon situation is pretty straightforward...
he’s a talented, but limited and streaky offensive player, and a clear liability beyond that. He is NOT good at creating his own shots, often makes poor decisions, and will never be a good defensive player. Since he has value now, he should be traded as soon as possible.
Heinrich, though I’m hardly a big fan of his, is a much better all-around player than Gordon.

Gordon is a Qualifying Offer player which means he can not be traded without his consent, can not be signed to an extension (like KG was when traded to Boston) as part of the trade and loses his Bird Rights.
Gordon is here until the end of the season, unless there is a team he REALLY wants to be on this season and that team REALLY wants him.

No way
It’s unfortunate for KD that he’s on one of the most pitiful basketball teams ever assembled. He’s got that killer instinct that all of the greats posess (he hit a couple of game winners last year) and he’s only 20 years old. The guy can play three positions and he’ll get stronger with age; not everyone is blessed with the body of a God at the age of 19 like LBJ.
He isn’t going to be Derrick Rose great, but he’ll still be great.

He is soft. He goes for layups rather than dunks.
He’s blessed the same way Odom is, a man with size and abiltuy to handle and shoot.
Just cause he’s made a couple last second shots, doesn’t mean he got that instinct.

If he's such a great player, shouldn't he, by himself, make that team competitive.
If he’s that good there’s no way they’d be this awful two years straight. Lebron’s team was worse when he got to Cleveland and they weren’t nearly that bad. You put D Rose on the Thunder and put Durant on the Bulls and I guarantee you the Thunder get better.
