Al Harrington to the Knicks. (UPDATE: Randolph to Clippers too?)
Meh. Not that the Bulls wanted him, but its interesting that no one can agree for whom he is being traded.

Well, I wanted him,
if we could have gotten him as a 2010-friendly Nocioni replacement…
A way I can see this effecting the Bulls is if Crawford is involved. That creates a gap at shooting guard for the Knicks, and makes Larry Hughes – along with his 2010 deal – even more palatable in a swap for Z-bo.
Thanks for the find.

I'm sensing something like this as well.
You just KNOW Walsh is targeting Hughes now.
How epic would a Duhon/Hughes starting backcourt be? Unreal.

I would just laugh and laugh
those two would be a backcourt for the ages.
(Then I would cry when D’Antoni actually makes something out of their lame asses, whereas VDN can’t make head or tails out of Gordon and Rose.)
OK, that negativity probably wasn’t necessary. VDN’s just got me fuming.

i think Pax has to inquire
at the very least. JC was averaging close to 20 for them. Maybe Larry can have a couple of 15 pt nights on this trip, duping Walsh into thinking he still has something left.

I think it's possible
unfortunately the only post-2010 salary the Knicks could pawn off are Curry and Randolph, and the Bulls should be interested in neither.
But if the Knicks just want to clear out roster crap and figure at least Hughes will soak up minutes, a deal could be done. Even if it was MalikRose+JeromeJames for Hughes (and Simmons), it’d free up 2009 salary to re-sign Gordon.

Lee
Maybe now is the right time to make a play for Lee. He’ll be a RFA next summer, so he’s just as much of a post-2010 salary problem as Curry and Randolph, and he seems to me to be about that MLE sort of player we were debating yesterday. Also, with Harrington on board, I really don’t see how they play Lee at all.
So what sort of Hughes+ something for Lee + something can work?
Also, I doubt they’d include Rose’s expiring contract without getting something back, because they’re no longer in Zeke’s completely ignore the luxury tax mode. They might trade it if suitably induced, but I can’t imagine Hughes is suitable inducement.
Maybe Hughes, Tyrus, Thabo for Q Rich, Rose, Lee? That’s accomplish a few things for us:
1. Even if we re-sign Lee for about $6M next year, our net savings off next summer’s cap are another $6.5M or so. That gives us plenty of breathing room to re-sign Gordon if we choose, and perhaps to bring back Gooden if we want/can.
Q Rich wouldn’t be entirely useless either, since he back up the wing spots and make Nocioni that much more expendable. So down the road, we can look to 2010 with
1- Rose
2- Gordon
3- Deng
4- Lee
5- Noah
our 1st rounders and room for a big time FA if we can get one.

… as you may not have read the first time around, the idea is to have that team, two first round picks, and a big name free agent. So if we’re adding Amare, Bosh, or god help us Lebron, I’m going to feel pretty good about that lineup.

That's what's great and stinks about this team.
Rose, Gordon, Deng and Noah (if he gets back into shape and merely marginally improves on his rookie season) is a solid starting 4. In fact, depending on the reserves and the 5th starter, it’s a 50-win team in a year or two.
You add Bosh to that… or someone else, and you’ve got a championship-caliber team.

David Lee sucks. Why do so many people post about trading for him? Is it because he’s on the Knicks and we love trading with the Knicks— usually getting the better end of the bargain? Well Isiah is gone and so too are the days of us swindling the Knicks. If we give up anything decent for Lee we’d be the ones getting swindled.

I forgot
they also have Jared Jefferies under contract in 2010.
When I first made that comment about taking 2010 money, it was the premise that maybe in exchange for taking someone who was no good, the Bulls could get actual talent. Jefferies would qualify as the ‘no good’ 2010 money, as would someone like Darius Songaila.

More likely than not.
There’s always the option of trading some of Noc, Kirk, Thabo or Tyrus before the deadline as well.
And realistically, the Clips would probably be interested in some or all of those guys given their newly shallow team. Besides their starting five (which includes a really not ready for prime time looking Eric Gordon), they’ve got no one.

It was funny and well done. I just brushed it off because I'm
in a bitter mood about Pax and not really in the mood to laugh at him. I’m more in the mood to curse him. Unless he snags Kaman, then I’ll be smiling.

We're in complete agreement.
Chris Kaman would make me so happy. I’m not even ashamed to admit it, though I know how stupid it sounds.

Good point,
I wasn’t thinking about that. Too bad, because it seems like easily the most palatable deal, BG aside. I feel like that means Noc has to be the guy then. Noc+prospect+picks. Thats all I got.

hoping:
If Randolph is on his way in, does this mean Kaman is on his way out?
That’s the only possible rationale I can see for obtaining Randolph. The term of Kaman’s salary extends a year longer than Randolph’s, into 2011-2012 . If the Clippers truly believe that they’ll never win with Chris Kaman — and there are reasonable arguments that can be constructed to that effect — then I guess swapping him for, say, a Gerald Wallace, starts to at least make sense. Because a frontcourt rotation at the 4-5 of Kaman, Randolph, and Camby offers no logic, particularly when you consider the first two will make a combined $28.67 in 2010-11, the year you’d like to put a nice offer on the table for the services of someone like Chris Bosh.
I’m not saying I’d approve many deals involving Kaman, but it’s interesting that he’s at least available.

I'm continually impressed with the shortsightedness of GMs
I always think showcasing is silly because it’s not like GMs look at daily PPG numbers and think a guy’s worth acquiring.
But look at what the Knicks did: Hire D’Antoni, get everyone boffo numbers, and all of a sudden guys like Randolph and Crawford are movable. Unbelievable.
Maybe we should’ve hired that guy for that reason alone. Noc would be averaging 20+ and Paxson’s phone could have been dusted off.

The resurgence of the Knicks just points out
how poor a job Paxson’s done. Here are Walsh’s moves since inheriting the worst roster in the NBA:
1) Steal D’Antoni from the Bulls, who get his lesser brother, VDN
2) Move Jamal Crawford, who stinks, for a player who stinks less and expires in 2010.
3) Move the non-fitting Z-bo for two players who fit D’Antoni’s system and expire in 2010.
4) Draft a guy who’s hurt (you can’t judge Gallinari yet.)
Aside from the draft pick, these are moves that help the Knicks short-term and long-term. Paxson had so much more to work with, and he’s done so much less.

well to be fair
Paxson has done D’Antoni’s job before, which is dumping garbage. He can do that fine.
My issue is that Paxson did not have a clear plan to dump guys who aren’t quite garbage, but are at the least superfluous (I guess the Crawford deal is this type though).
Pax’s remarks about keeping Hinrich just in case he couldn’t sign Gordon were specific to this point. No plan.

I understand the salary relief down the road
but they just traded their two best players for a guy who was banished in GS, and two over the hill role players from LAC. If they don’t sign one of the big dogs in 2010(likely), these turn around and become terrible moves.

New York has...
4 players set to bee under contract in 2010,
Curry
Jeffries
Gallinari
Chandler
~23 million on the books. They basically are going to be able to offer 2 max (or close enough to it) contracts. They will look very appealing to every player in the league with D’Antoni and LeBron at the helm.

Top notch comment
I assume you know what I meant, but just in case I’ll elaborate: the point is that it will be like Boston. If they can sign 1 great player, then another might follow. So if they get LeBron, then Bosh or Wade might follow; or vice-versa and it will be easier to convince Wade or LeBron to come when they know that they’ll have a great coach and that there’s the prospect that another amazing player could join them.

Donnie Walsh has a rule: as soon as the Knicks FINALLY start winning games with
their players, it’s time to SHAKE THINGS UP! Knicks have been decent (6-5) this year, and would have killed to have a team with decent chemistry (with good coaching and well chosen lineups) or half as good as this the past few years.
(yeah, I know the Knicks are salary dumping for 2010, but they just got rid of their two best players – Crawford and Randolph – even with the team not sucking so hard..they must be planning to go WAY WAY OVER THE LUXURY TAX in 2010 for at least TWO all-star free agents or they wouldn’t be dumping so much)
Meanwhile, I wonder if D’Antoni will let Tim Thomas even on the floor this season. That gives the Knicks 3 permanently disgruntled players: Starbury, Curry, & Thomas. If Donnie Walsh adds two more toxic waste contracts through trades, they’ll have a whole starting lineup of Bizarro World All-Stars.

D'Antoni didn't have any problem letting Tim Thomas see the floor in Phoenix.

I think I see Donnie's strategy now. By being AS HORRIBLE AS POSSIBLE over the next
two years, the Knicks should be able to get two top-5 draft picks to surround two 2010 All-Star free agent signings. The fans will put up with it, since they can see sunshine is just around the corner in a couple years. It’s 2010 or bust.
Hell, the Bulls lucked into the 1st draft pick and Derrick Rose; and Miami lucked into the 2nd pick. Why not take that chance instead of keeping two non-All Stars, even if they are his best players? Surround Lebron + All Star Free Agent + 2 good young players.

Clips in need of guards?
Baron Davis, Eric Gordon, Mike Taylor (their D-League draftee), Mardy Collins (from the trade), Al Thornton and Ricky Davis can play there too…
I don’t see them being in desperate need of guards, much less the guards WE have to offer. BG, Kirk, Hughes, Thabo…which one do they need exactly?
