Bulls waive Demetris Nichols
[From the FanShots. Nichols' deal was unguaranteed, so this likely puts the Bulls back under the luxury tax after signing Hunter -ed.]
Nichols (6-8, 216), appeared in two games this season with Chicago and averaged 1.0 ppg in 2.5 mpg. Nichols was claimed on waivers by the Bulls on Dec. 7, 2007 and was re-signed by Chicago on July 24, 2008. He was originally selected by the Portland Trail Blazers in the second round (53rd selection) of NBA Draft 2007.
Chicago’s roster now stands at 14.

Is this a precursor to a trade
or just a delayed reaction to the signing of Hunter?

Sam Smith mused the Bulls were talking to Washington.
About potentially trading Hughes.

Etan Thomas perhaps?
His career 15.0 PER averaging only 18.3 mins per game definitely would be a big help for our frontcourt – but @ only 6’9 could he play major minutes with Noce/Noah/Gooden?

Rec'd
Just for the sudden joy that emerged for dumping that salary/chucking, even though I don’t hold any hope that it comes to fruition.
But let’s indulge the fantasy – what would we get in return?
It would take two players, given Hughes’ contract (Arenas and Jameson are the only individuals with 75% of Hughes).
Do we want any two of those? Songalia 2.0? (lol)

BTW
Both Haywood and Thomas’ deals come off the books in 2010 – because that now is a must-have in any trade scenario for obvious reasons.

this seems like an awfully steep price
just to get rid of hughes. Haywood is injured and Thomas isn’t as good as Noah. But I do love that Hughes is averaging 0.0 ast after 2 games.

"Thomas isn't as good as Noah"
Of course not, he’s shorter…

i mean ethan thomas
nice reading comprehension. You did know there is more than one thomas in the world?

it occurs to me that you could mean ethan thomas as well
but i still think Noah is better. Add in his age and the way he played last season and I think it is a losing trade.

I don't know if any Christmas present will ever top Skiles's resignation last year

mmmm, for me
it would be Hughes departure.

I liked skiles...
I thought, and still think he is a good coach, in terms of what his mind is capable of. His stern attitude pushes players to play hard…its just they play so hard that at some point they self destruct or something…

Not only can he see fouls in the future, but roster moves as well!!!!!!

Not that it matters
But can he go to a D-League team now? I wonder how guys like Nichols are able to live off basketball when they don’t even have guaranteed salaries.

He's probably earned around 65K just for the 2 months he's been with the team this season
I think we could have kept him and assigned him to Iowa, but that would keep him on the payroll and put us into the luxury tax.
