How does Bibby get back to back threes.

After the Bulls cut the lead to 2?

Vinny needs to work on defense.

Luol Deng's turnovers.

Or bad defense?

You guys pick and choose your hate…I am going with bad defense and poor rebounding.

That's ridiculous...

When Luol turns it over at the top of the key the defense has NO CHANCE to set up. Not VDN’s fault at all.

Okay.

And 97 points through 3.5 quarters is indicative of good defense.

Different concept entirely...

Your original comment indicated that two straight threes were because of defensive breakdowns… Sorry, not the case at all.

And I suppose his Bibby's three off the miss.

Was Thabo’s fault for missing the shot? Or just bad transition defense?

But, some people on here do not understand that concept.

New drinking game

everytime Hub says Ben has the ball, he loses his dribble-take a shot . the guy has no handles and bad shot selection. He’s a six man, not a starter. But wants to lead this team.

the Bulls aren’t getting much national exposure this season to garner some additional support

If Allen Iverson hadn't been traded to Detroit....

….Rose would be the All-Star starter voted in by the fans. But you can pencil in A.I. at one guard spot and D. Wade at the other guard spot right now. Unless he plays out of his mind he may not be selected by the coaches. Guys like Ray Allen, Joe Johnson, Richard Hamilton, Michael Redd, etc… will be the other guards selected before Rose….THIS YEAR ANYWAY!!!

But you better believe that D. Rose is getting some mention in the league. It’s blasphemous to say so, but his early success kind of reminds me of when MJ was a rookie and he was better than anybody really thought he’d be. NO EXPERTS even had Rose in their top 5 rookie of the year preseason picks. I know it’s VERY early, but if he stays healthy then R.O.Y is his to lose.

by lexdiamonds0730 on Nov 11, 2008 9:59 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

yeah

but if it wasn’t ai, billups would still be in the running in the east, and while he’s not the vote drawer that ai is, i’m not sure that rose would be able to be a top vote getter. if not this year he will be an allstar soon though.

Even with the TOs

his numbers look good

by Tobo on Nov 11, 2008 9:57 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

He played well, I was just pissed because he shot that horrible fadeaway and had those two killer

momentum shifting turnovers. The real problem tonight was the Bulls inability to rebound underneath with their bigs and their wing players inability to close out on shooters. Turnovers that lead to transition buckets didn’t help either.

by fundamentallysound on Nov 11, 2008 10:06 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

would you guys rather have tayshaun prince or deng?

Prince is vastly underrated.. they play the same except prince is better

by circles on Nov 11, 2008 9:56 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

yeah deng was the problem

19 and 9. that is our biggest concern

by DangerMouse on Nov 11, 2008 9:57 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

i disagree

but we lost this game because Horford went for 27 and 17. You can’t let a guy who averages 9pt and 9 reb go for 27 and 17. That can’t happen.

by DangerMouse on Nov 11, 2008 10:00 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

No you can't let a guy who averages 9 and 9 do that....

…..but it’d be nice if our big money guy gave us something like 27 and 17. Hell just give me the 27 and i’ll be happy Luol…LOL

by lexdiamonds0730 on Nov 11, 2008 10:02 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

you didn't even watch the game

i repeat, Deng is the 15th highest paid small forward in the league. he isn’t a big money guy. He is making good starter’s money, but no where near max or big time money

by DangerMouse on Nov 11, 2008 10:04 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

what the hell are people bitching about Luol for? He had 20/10 on 13 shots with 2 assists, a steal and a block.

We lost this game for two reasons – we don’t play defense, and we don’t have an interior. Luol’s been playing better.

I ain't gotta watch the game to expect big games out of Deng.

I don’t give a damn if he’s the 15th highest paid SF in the league. He’s got the biggest contract in BULLS HISTORY!!!! So I want him to come up big more often than he does.

Deng has been playing like shit this year and last.

Gordon can provide you with points off the bench. Deng is at best a 20 point scorer and 8 rebounds. Gordon is at best a 30 point scorer 8 rebounds

by circles on Nov 11, 2008 10:05 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

all of this Deng love is pathetic...He's not a difference maker.

I dont like Gordon either, but he can change the game with his range. Deng needs to step up his game.

by circles on Nov 11, 2008 10:13 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

BINGO!!!

I couldn’t have said it better myself. That’s the point I’ve been trying to make. That Deng is not a difference maker. Nobody can deny that he’s a solid player, but he is not and increasingly looking like he will never be a difference maker. Derrick Rose is a difference maker. Hell, even Ben Gordon is a difference maker (sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s bad…LOL…but it’s a difference). Deng can go too many stretches where you can forget he’s even out there. On this team, he can’t be like that. Gotta be better than that.

by lexdiamonds0730 on Nov 11, 2008 10:27 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

20 pts is good, but.....

….when you score those points matters quite a bit. I don’t give a damn if you score 39 pts through the first 3 quarters. If you consistently go scoreless in the 4th when your team needs you most then you’re a damn bum!!! I’m a RESULTS oriented guy.

Did you know Derrick Rose only scored 9 pts in the state championship game as a junior? Yet he was unanimously awarded MVP. Hit the game winning shot and had a MAJOR effect on the game. That’s what i want Deng to do…so quit talking to me about 20pts/10rbds….blah blah blah.

by lexdiamonds0730 on Nov 11, 2008 10:19 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Agree.

He could have made just one shot but if that one shot won the game for us…

Quietest 8 I’ve ever seen (heard). But so what? Was he a factor???? Did you see the point I just made earlier (that you responded to)? This dude is just a non factor. And now that I see you havea “man crush” on Luol Deng and take criticism of him very personally I’m not gonna stop talking about him now…LOL.

by PatBull on Nov 11, 2008 10:45 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

i don't even like Luol Deng's game

but you come in to every game thread and make the same point over and over. You’ve been make the same point for like a year and half now. Obviously his 8 points were important, he helped keep us in the game. Just because I defend a player from idiotic and unfair criticism doesn’t mean I like them. Your constant harping on one point is boring, and not worthy of further discussion.

by DangerMouse on Nov 12, 2008 1:38 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Actually, his two crucial turnovers...

…that caused a 10-12 point swing (2 possible makes on our side erased by the TO and 2 threepointers on their side) is what killed us.

If we subtracted that, bulls win by 5-7 points.

Even if we just didn’t give the ball away and just missed our shots, we still would have won by 1pt.

Mostly everyone in here bitches too much

I come in here for 3 minutes and all there is, is hate for a small forward who was 7-13 with 10 rebs, 1 stl, 1 block, and 2 turnovers. It was two big turnovers, but it’s not his job to look out over Mike Bibby; it was Ben Gordon’s dumbass looking like a deer in headlights at the top of key, happily frolicking to Bibby when he was about to let loose.

My hit list: Larry, Thabo, Lindsay, Demetris, Cedric, Aaron, Paxson, Reinsdorf, Del Negro, and Schanwald. We're left with Rose, Gordon, Hinrich, Deng, Noce, Gooden, Tyrus, Noah, Harris, and Bickerstaff. Harris takes coach and Bickerstaff takes GM. Who needs an owner? Pay for it with the money that the Blog A Bull community will spend on tickets to see a good team!
Correction: Matt takes GM, and Bickerstaff stays Head Assistant Coach.

I'm done with Tyrus

Another 1-8 from the field. This is unacceptable . Trade him now while he has some value…

Please Pax, don't trade Hughes! Just make sure that he stays injured until... 2010!!!

by bull83 on Nov 11, 2008 10:05 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I didn't know he had value

"He's not scared to take that shot," Rose said. "That's Larry. No matter what, I don't need to remind him to shoot. He's willing to shoot any time."

by Evil Pax on Nov 11, 2008 10:06 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

he has NO value around the league. He's a bust it appears and that pains me to say it. I love the guy

but he has been abysmal to watch this year. He just isn’t progressing. He seems to be getting worse every year.

by fundamentallysound on Nov 11, 2008 10:07 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I'll say it again

IT’S PAX FAULT!!!

He believes to much in the players that he drafted… And most of them – Rose is the execption to the that rule – are awfull…

Please Pax, don't trade Hughes! Just make sure that he stays injured until... 2010!!!

by bull83 on Nov 11, 2008 10:16 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

the only recent draft decision

that could be regretted is getting Tyrus instead of Roy, Aldridge, or even Rudy Gay

"He's not scared to take that shot," Rose said. "That's Larry. No matter what, I don't need to remind him to shoot. He's willing to shoot any time."

I'm not sold on Noah

He’s has great attitude, he never gives up a ball, but, right now, he doesn’t have the strength to compete with other C and doesn’t have any post moves to be a PF. So, let’s hope he increases his strength to became a good C

Please Pax, don't trade Hughes! Just make sure that he stays injured until... 2010!!!

Somebody tell me how Luol Deng did!!!

Everyone knows that I think Deng disappears when crunch time arrives. I think he shrinks at the biggest of moments in these games. Someone, ANYONE please tell me if he was even a factor before the outcome had been decided.

by lexdiamonds0730 on Nov 11, 2008 10:08 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

he was a factor

in the loss

which I approve of

19 and 10, I think he did pretty good

he had 2 consecutive TOs that brought the game back to 10 pts, but honestly our defense was what really cost us the game like usual

by Tobo on Nov 11, 2008 10:09 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

agreed

when you give up 113 pts, i don’t know how you can point to two plays as the only difference

by DangerMouse on Nov 11, 2008 10:10 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

When ...

you score 108, and those two plays cost you 6 points [more if you scored on posession].

by Prevenge on Nov 11, 2008 10:12 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

what about gray missing 2 ft's?

or thabo’s poor drive ending in a 5 pt swing?

deng’s turnovers sucked, but the guy wasn’t our biggest problem and there were certainly other plays that contributed to the momentum and our loss.

by Jaina on Nov 11, 2008 10:15 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yea and if only Derrick went 12-17 instead of 9-17 or ben went 11-20 instead of 8-20 or....

Stupid to say if those 6 points off the TOs cost us. Shitty defense cost us the game quit trying to give Luol shit.

by Tobo on Nov 11, 2008 10:18 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

but they were back on defense

he didn’t give up a wide open 3 to Bibby twice in a row. One was in transition but the other we were back.

Besides, we were playing catch up the entire game. And our inside guys disappeared completely. Deng made some nice plays in the 4th, got some rebounds, played D. Guys will make mistakes. In truth (not to criticize the golden boy) Rose shouldn’t be giving Deng the ball 30 ft from the basket. That is something he will learn. Still, I think Luol has improved every game this year and is without a doubt our 3rd best player. You guys want to worry about replacing one of our best guys. I’m concerned about the guys who completely suck.

by DangerMouse on Nov 11, 2008 10:16 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Here's how.

More than half the quarter left.
4 pt lead by Hawks.
Bulls have the ball.
Deng turns it over.
Bibby hits 3pointer.
7pt Hawks lead.
Deng turns it over again, immediately after last turnover.
Bibby hits another 3.
Hawks lead by 10.
Bulls call timeout with half quarter left.
Bulls lose by 5pts.

by PatBull on Nov 11, 2008 10:15 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

yeah

and then they had SIX MINUTES to catch up, and failed.

by Jaina on Nov 11, 2008 10:18 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

a four point lead in 6 minutes than a 10 point lead.

by PatBull on Nov 11, 2008 10:32 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

it getting really tiresome

after every game, people complain about Deng.

where the hell was Tyrus? Or Noah? Or Gray? Where was Ben in the 4th? What did Noce do in the 4th? In truth the 4th quarter consisted mostly of Rose, Deng and Thabo (of all people) making plays.

Why doesn’t anyone ever want to hold those guys accountable?

by DangerMouse on Nov 11, 2008 10:21 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Pay Raise = Higher Expectation

"He's not scared to take that shot," Rose said. "That's Larry. No matter what, I don't need to remind him to shoot. He's willing to shoot any time."

by Evil Pax on Nov 11, 2008 10:22 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

that is silly

just because he makes more money doesn’t mean he is going to play any different. I expect Deng to give us 20 and 8. And that is basically what he did.

by DangerMouse on Nov 11, 2008 10:23 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

So, in Deng's next contract...

if we give him even more money, we should expect the same output?

by PatBull on Nov 11, 2008 10:28 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Sorry...

not sure what this meant.

by PatBull on Nov 11, 2008 10:33 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

i was arguing that you can't expect people to play

based on their contract. they play how they play. If we sign Gordon to a max deal, he won’t become a max player, he will still be ben gordon. Whether Deng makes $10 mil, 8 mil or 15 mil, he is still just Luol Deng.

by DangerMouse on Nov 11, 2008 10:37 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

But isn't it logical to expect players...

…with max contracts to be max players?

And players with bigger contracts to be better players than those with smaller contracts?

Oh wait, im gonna stop talking about Luol already.

by PatBull on Nov 11, 2008 10:47 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

One thing to add.

When a rookie is playing on a rookie contract, he is often outplaying the value of the contract….when he gets paid his first real deal, then he is actually getting paid properly for his production in the NBA…So, DMouse is right, Luol Deng is going to be Luol Deng…be thankful that we got him so cheaply the past four seasons…

Now if some of our other young guys could outperform their rookie deals (Tyrus, Thabo, Noah, Gray)…not Rose, he is definitely a bargain for $5M this season.

DangerMouse, now you know DAMN well....

…that despite what he did tonight, Ben Gordon is a guy that’s going to be there down the stretch. He’s going to be the guy looking to take big shots in the 4th quarter.

by bull83 on Nov 12, 2008 7:21 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I'm saying

Deng is going to get a lot of crap by people because he’s the one that got the huge extension and will be expected to live up to that. It’s just like getting a promotion. The other players haven’t been around as long and aren’t nearly as invested in by the franchise, money-wise

"He's not scared to take that shot," Rose said. "That's Larry. No matter what, I don't need to remind him to shoot. He's willing to shoot any time."

by Evil Pax on Nov 11, 2008 10:30 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

i understand the feeling

but it is not realistic. The Bulls just need Deng to play his game. When he tries to do to much, he hurts the team. In my eyes, if Deng can average 20 pts and 7 reb while playing solid D, than he has earned his contract.

If Deng starts trying to be the “big money man” he will hurt the team. He needs to let Rose lead, and when Rose is up for his extension, he will become big money man. And if the 2010 plan rolls around, Bosh or Stoudemire will be the big money men. Since Hughes makes the most money, are you expecting him to dominate?

by DangerMouse on Nov 11, 2008 10:34 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Good point.

I guess it’s more like, we inherited Hughes contract so we had less to say about it but we negotiated Deng’s. That’s entirely on us.

Like the Ben Wallace contract was all our fault.

by PatBull on Nov 11, 2008 10:36 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I'm talking about

the expectation of Deng, not his game. Yes, it’d be great to “let the game come to him” (Noce should be reading this too), but the expectation is on Deng, given the high price tag of his contract.

Again, I’m not saying Deng should be doing more, necessarily, but most will expect that he does.

As for me, the only thing I expect is for Deng to try hard every night, because as a die-hard fan, that’s all I care about.

And the only thing I expect out of Larry Hughes is for him to leave after his contract is finished. That’s what gets me through the day.

"He's not scared to take that shot," Rose said. "That's Larry. No matter what, I don't need to remind him to shoot. He's willing to shoot any time."

by PatBull on Nov 11, 2008 10:51 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Stephon Marbury and Tim Thomas!!!

2 guys who were paid to stay away from the team. We can do that with Larry Hughes at this point…and use his contract as trade bait next season…or get rid of him this year if we can.

by lexdiamonds0730 on Nov 11, 2008 10:58 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed.

It’s like the case with Juwan Howard.

When he got a big contract a decade ago, everyone expected him to play like a monster. But he played like the reliable and hardworking player that Howard had always been and people griped all throughout his huge contract.

by PatBull on Nov 11, 2008 10:27 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

If you read above (way above)

and the other thread, there were no Deng complaints.

Mostly Noah, Thomas and Gray complaints (and Gordon complaints too).

Deng complaints started coming in right after he made those TO’s. Also, as the BUlls big money man, we expect him to step up. If he does, we say it’s because he should because, again, Deng is the big money man. If he doesn’t, tough titty.

Unless he want’s to settle for a smaller contract for smaller expectations?

by PatBull on Nov 11, 2008 10:30 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Nobody holds Tyrus, Noah, Gray, etc....

…to the standard that Deng is being held to at this point. I’ve seen on this board and heard from no less than ESPN analysts that Luol Deng is a TOP 5 SF in the NBA. If that’s the case then DAMMIT PLAY LIKE IT EVERY NIGHT…or at least most nights!!!

to answer your question

no one said this team would be a good defensive team. And they aren’t a good defensive team because the guys who play the 4 and 5 (Gooden, Tyrus, Noah, Gray, Noce) suck on D. Until the interior guys start rotating and getting to the spot and cutting off penetration before the guys are 5 ft from the basket, we won’t be a good defensive team.

by DangerMouse on Nov 11, 2008 10:22 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

"interior guys"? more like "inferior" guys! (sorry, I had to)

yeah each frontcourt player has blaring weaknesses

-Gooden can’t contest shots by taller players
-Tyrus fouls too much while contesting shots
-Noah gets pushed around a ton (but he’s getting better)
-Gray is Gray
-Noce doesn’t leave from his spot on the 3-pt. line

"He's not scared to take that shot," Rose said. "That's Larry. No matter what, I don't need to remind him to shoot. He's willing to shoot any time."

by Evil Pax on Nov 11, 2008 10:27 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

but on a more positive note

it’s not as bad at last year, it seems

"He's not scared to take that shot," Rose said. "That's Larry. No matter what, I don't need to remind him to shoot. He's willing to shoot any time."

by Evil Pax on Nov 11, 2008 10:28 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

i agree

the team is playing a little better. But they need a big man in the worst way. Screw Kaman, I think they need Camby far more. They can score points, they just can’t stop anybody.

its the 8th game of the season!

i think they will be better in the second half once Rose has some games under his belt than the first.

And people don’t seem to realize, the Hawks are 6-0. I think this game was winnable, but those guys aren’t slouches. They can play.

by DangerMouse on Nov 11, 2008 10:35 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Can you believe we traded Aldridge for Thomas!? yuck. I get sometimes you need to take a risk…shame though

by rquinsee on Nov 11, 2008 10:23 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Great interior defense....NOT!

Our bigs always seem to be outmuscled or outhustled or outsmarted in the paint.

But my burning question of the day, assuming he ever plays again is…..
Will Tyrus EVER SLASH to the rim off the ball in my lifetime (I have recently been diagnosed with cancer)? and if he does, will anyone pass to him in stride for an easy score? He desperately needs to make some easy cripples.
Is he even capable of scoring in the paint? It seems his shots get blocked almost every time he penetrates.

I am losing faith and losing hope. Someone tell me if I should get off the ledge or is it time to jump? My mancrush is turning into manslush.

If you can't answer a man's arguments, all is not lost. You can still call him vile names.

Tyrus has broken my heart too often. Its time I find a new hero.

should I change my name to Larrylover? When he returns, at least I know he will score a few points. It may take him 20 shots to get into double figures, but at least Hughes knows how to run and gun. It might be fun watching Ben and Larry compete to see who can keep the ball away from Rose as much as possible, so they can be in the highlight reel, you know, taking but missing the game winner to keep the pressure off the rookie.
