Hughes hopeful to play this week
[It's a tough balance: do I assume VDN will start Hughes so it tempers my anger when it actually happens? Or would doing that only prematurely and unecessarily unleash that anger? -ed.]
Larry Hughes participated in the majority of the Bulls' Monday practice and, close to three weeks after dislocating his right shoulder on Oct. 22, is hopeful he can play either Thursday against Dallas or Saturday against Indiana.

Rose is awesome
Asked about playing with the 6-foot-5-inch Hughes, Rose meant the following as a compliment, even if it did nothing to dispel Hughes’ reputation as a high-volume shooter.
“He’s not scared to take that shot,” Rose said. “That’s Larry. No matter what, I don’t need to remind him to shoot. He’s willing to shoot any time.”

yes, that is indeed awesome

Please allow me to translate for Derrick...
"That fucker shoots too much. I try to tell his dumb ass to stop shooting, but he keeps chucking them up there. He’s not afraid of taking the shot, but the rest of the team is. "

Because I like Rose so much as a player,
I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he’s also somewhat sly.
“He’s willing to shoot at any time.”

"It's just getting used to the contact, which I still haven't had," Hughes said
heh. i read it as “contract” at first.

That seals it
I was going to take my daughter to the Bulls game on Thurs night. Now, I don’t want to take the chance that she’ll return to pre-school telling her teachers about Larry Fucking Hughes.

I've suspected all
along that he would be inserted back into the starting lineup when he came back. Blech!

I know this is crazy...
but what if Gordon holds his own against the 6’7" Johnson? Either just by working him over on offense or (and this is really crazy) doing alright against him on defense.
Then their is no way VDN would start Hughes… right?
right?

The logic is just so tortured
McGraw epitomizes it:
Gordon and Rose might end up playing every fourth quarter together, but it just makes more sense having a taller guard such as Hughes or Thabo Sefolosha playing defense at the start of the game.
That makes no sense… if you can’t start Rose and Gordon, why can they play the fourth quarter? What is so different about the first 8 minutes of the game?

It's important to set that defensive tone
Then, when the team’s trailing by double digits after setting the defensive tone to start the game and the second half, the offensive players can fire away to get the team back in. Of course, they’ll really be piggybacking that previously set defensive tone.

I didn't even post McGraw's worst comment
This one in the same article is just obscene:
Plus, there’s a certain psychological boost when the Bulls starters can stay even in the first quarter, knowing that their best scorer has yet to be seen.
God forbid getting a lead.

that particular quote
is one of the most ridiculous things i have ever read.
mcgraw was doing the best reporting of the 3 papers (trib, suntimes, herald) up until this point, but this article destroys any credibility he had been building.

well, this was a column
and unlike with KC Johnson sometimes, McGraw does a good job keeping his reports and columns separate.

true, i appreciate him not sticking his opinions in his reports
however, his opinions are ridiculous.

I don't mean to have a go at McGraw
He’s the best Bull’s beat writer as far as I’m concerned. I see this more as the Bulls point of view expressed through him.

Interesting in theory, but rarely seen in reality...
Should have read that there “could be” a psychological boost “if” the starters stayed even, right?

Ask NBAObserver.
He advocates it. Something about those guys picking up two quick fouls. He’ll tell you Del Negro’s psychological leanings behind it if ya ask.

This has to be killing management.
Their plan was to de-emphasize Gordon as punishement for not signing. Why else would he be the FOURTH GUARD on a 33-win team? Then #2 and #3 got hurt!
Can’t have the inmates running the asylum you know.
They’re getting what they deserve and Gordon will probably have a good year and make his money elsewhere next year.

Puke!
How does Hughes seem to get a pass in every single article? His shooting percentage, bad shot selection, blackhole-ness and other major problems are never mentioned. He is always called “tall” and a “shooter” and even with Rose’s sly comment the writers never outright say the obvious as they do with “short Gordon” and “frustrated Hinrich” or “struggling Thabo”. Those things are well documented in the media but none of Hughes’ long list of career long negatives. As much as our other guards have their own deficiencies they are all, to a person, less of a disaster than Hughes. And Hughes is only a shooter in the fact he takes a lot of shots. Gordon is a real shooter in the fact he can be efficient within the number of shots he takes. Blah.
Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

Well, it was my sister's, so I sort of had to attend everything.
And my family isn’t the basketball watching type, so I sort of had no one to back me up on my need for a Bulls fix. :(

I mean…what?
Larry Hughes coming back is quite awful, similar to the Cuban Missile Crisis.
