Two season previews
Arch-community-nemesis Blazers Edge:
Once upon a time Chicago was the young team destined for greatness. They’re not supposed to be so young anymore. They’re not old by any means but with Deng entering his fifth season and Hinrich his sixth plus Hughes and Gooden in the starting lineup, they should have enough veterans to do the job. It’s ironic, then, that so many hopes are pinned on a rookie.
Dave's logic, and I agree, is that the Bulls need to increase their high-percentage shot attempts and have someone become a leader, and it's Derrick Rose or bust.
Bonus (sort of) link, Basketbawful moonlighting at Deadspin. Low-post scorer, 'identity', etc.

Where do they get
Hughes and Gooden in the starting lineup
?
And no, it’s not ironic that so many hopes are pinned on a rookie. It officially sucks balls that so many hopes are pinned on a rookie.
As the preview itself points out, it’s because the Bulls overpaid for an aging star that played well on the wrong end of the court, and he only did that sparingly, meaning that they had to turn his $15 million per year into some other overpaid guy, who in this case is Hughes. And because, wait a minute, we’ve already been over this.
The Blazersedge preview is not really that bad. It does go into the same phrases that seem to usher in every Bulls season, from lack of leadership to lack of low post scorer, although the one original thing is that they shun the traditional phrase to describe the low shooting percentage as:
They couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn with a howitzer
As for the youth angle, the Bulls were young when the Pax era turnaround began, and they are still young. That’s one of the great things about young teams that work hard—even if you screw up along the way, you have that much more time to fix your mistakes. Here’s hoping the Bulls have learned from their season from hell, and also that they learn how to use that Howitzer.

As I said on BlazersEdge....
…Thomas, Gooden and Nocioni will combine to make a Top-5, per48 production, power-forward team.
Rose’s youth and inexperience, the guard rotation and C might be the problems; not PF.

by PER
PF was their best position last year.

That is crazy,
Though I wouldnt’ not believe it after Joltin Joe lead us to the best PER before he left, and then Drew Gooden came in and played very solid bball…..as Gooden’s trying to make a case as our starter this year, while the rest of the guys seemed to only want Jimmy B to get the axe.

I never can seem to not use those things, not without being confused anyway.

My dad's season preview
Dad: Er, I forgot… who’s their new coach
Me: Vinny Del Negro
Dad: Fuuuuck!
(The extra “u” indicate he said it all long and drawn out and incredulous like)
(Yes, this was the actual conversation)

Sports2,
I found your recap of your conversation with your dad to be really good stuff, very funny. Perhaps it’s because my own dad simply never swore, and I always found it hilarious when other dads did.
Anyway, the Sports Guy’s got nothing on you.
