Around SBN: 2012 Budweiser Shootout Entry List Released

Derrick Rose?

Does he still play for us?

Two-a-days have concluded and there hasn't been a single peep about the ostensible future of the franchise, though we do know Noah got poked in the eye, Gray is 30 lbs slimmer, and BG doesn't like being called a greedy bastard.

We also know, courtesy of the Trib, that there's a "log jam" at guard.

Thanks a lot.

Has anyone heard anything about how he's performed?  Knee good or not so good?

Hilarious

I’ve read about tons of rookies – Mayo, Love, Lopez – and how well they’re doing, blah blah blah. But all I get on the #1 pick is…dude can shoot free throws? Heck, I’ve read more about Gallinari’s bad back.

yikes

thankfully I don’t read the dead tree edition. Interesting editorial choice.

On CTL

Friday night K.C. Johnson said the organization had talked about bringing Rose along slowly but K.C. said Rose will be playing a lot and they should start him every game and let him work through his mistakes.

Last night on Sports NIte there was an interview with Noah and he said he has spent more time in one month with Vinny then he spent in 6 months with Skiles. Noah said Vinny has taken him out to dinner and one night Noah was at the same restaurant as Vinny and Vinny picked up Noah’s tab. Kind of refreshing to hear.

I really think

the simple fact that the players don’t despise the coach will add a couple wins.

by JeffD on Oct 5, 2008 11:05 AM CDT up reply actions

I hope he's not trying to hard

to be their friend. They have good enough work ethic, that that’ll work for a while. But just like a parent, and a boss, there has to be enough separation that discipline can be enforced without hard feelings.

I can easily see a rookie coach going too far in the friend zone, especially following an authoritarian like Skiles.

That's what I'm talking about

Assuming Rose’s eventual excellence, Noah should be priority one, Thomas two, Thabo three. The reasoning’s simple enough: I don’t relish entering the next offseason with Deng/Gordon replaced by Thomas/Thabo. I’d really like Pax to be able to make a decision on keeping them or moving them by the trade deadline.

by California Al on Oct 5, 2008 1:23 PM CDT up reply actions

So wouldn't that'd make them higher priorities?

besides

Thabo/Thomas aren’t entering restricted free agency. They’ll be offered an early extension, told it’s less than market value for the sake of security, and then told the following summer that it was actually over market value.

I'm just generally bummed about the training camp coverage.

Almost all the stories over the past week are just guys talking about what they did over the summer, or what they need to do differently this year, etc. I want to hear about how the practices are going, who’s playing with who, and that kind of stuff. But maybe with baseball coverage almost wrapping up (although I am sorry about that for you Cubs/Sox fans) the basketball coverage will pick up a bit?

CSN here has

been talking to some of the players and Vinny. To me he indicated that things are not going as smoothly as he would like. I guess we’ll get to see on Thursday night. The preseason game will be televised by CSN. I think they are carrying 5 or 6 of the preseason games.

by sue369 on Oct 5, 2008 1:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Unfortunately I don't get it here, so I'm stuck with the paper's coverage.

Too bad if it’s not going great, although it doesn’t totally surprise me since they’re learning new stuff. Can’t wait till the preseason games start. Heck, I’m excited for the non-Bulls preseason games today – it’s been too long without basketball.

After my heart was broken

after last nights Cubs game I’m ready to move on. Football today is helping.

by sue369 on Oct 5, 2008 2:18 PM CDT up reply actions

I work at a bookstore.

We got a book in today about the Cubs ‘09, and on it it says:
“This Is Our Year!”
Had a good laugh.
Sox are still in the playoffs, by the way. [Muhahahaha? Though, they’re about to lose too.]

Slightly more topically to the original post … thread … fanpost?, I need more Derrick Rose info. NBA 2k9 isn’t out yet either. It’s killing me. At least the Bears are doing well.

I'm with you wjb1492

I ready for BBall and our Bulls. It has been a long wait.

I’ve been amazed at the lack of news on Derrick Rose too.

They did talk about

Derrik’s knee. They said it’s ok and all players have some kind of tendonitis and they did some exercises and therapy to help heal it.

by sue369 on Oct 5, 2008 3:38 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah by midseason almost every player will have some kind of tendinitis

Obviously some will be more severe given age and other circumstances, but Rose is only 20 years old and in some seriously good physical shape. Rose and the rest of his teammates will have bags of ice wrapped to their knees after the games, it’s just precaution.

"I’m gonna rise up, gonna kick a little ass. Gonna kick some ass in the USA. Gonna climb a mountain, gonna sew a flag, gonna fly on an eagle. I’m gonna kick some butt, gonna drive a big truck. I’m gonna rule this world. I’m gonna kick some ass. I’m gonna rise up, gonna kick a little ass. Rock, flag, and eagle!"

Ah...here's the reason:

From the Daily Herald:

“In past years, Scott Skiles opened up early practices to reporters who covered the team regularly, but this season the curtain has stayed closed.”
