Open Game Thread #2: Bulls at Boston Celtics - OVERFLOW
First half, big time stinko.
So bad that the fact Aaron Gray played so much isn't the worst thing I've seen tonight.
This may be one of those games where we just watch Derrick Rose and pick out some good from that. And assume everyone else will get traded eventually.

This seems like a great time
to go with a new lineup to start the 2nd half.

It will be interesting to see if VDN
had some motivational talk over the half. I really want to see them come on the floor calm, collected, and less mopey. It is one thing to lose it is another to look like losers while doing it.
Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

Can we please try to be at least civil for the second half of the game.
That first post is the most unfun thing I had to get through on this site ever.

Give the keys to Rose
and let him drive the Ferrari. I feel its too early in the game to say this, but that is our only alternative right now, sadly.

I personally find it humorous that D Rose almost looks
irritated at the play of his team.
It’s almost as if he is befuddled by the organized incompetence.
This game was a predicable loss, though. Write it off.
I think we’ll win tomorrow night.

Perhaps we should all talk about Rose
and forget the rest of the team for this game. Rose clearly cares. The rest of them are used to losing from last year. They are going to have to learn to not take losing like a bunch of 8th graders.

We don’t have to look completely incompetent though.

yes, true!
At one point he was giving it to somebody about something, and Gooden came in the makeshift huddle to calm things, and then VDN called a time-out.
But, yeah was Rose was giving it out, to Gordon I think it was, about a mistake,
THIS IS GOOD TO SEE!
Young or not, since there is NO leader at the moment, it may as well be their best player, Rose!

I didn't see the game
But in the highlights Memphis looked athletic and tough against Magic.

They had a nice comeback, but Rudy Gay had some circus shots go in
It’s another nice test for Rose to go up against Conley and Lowry, at least to see how he can manage defensively. Deng has to step up because Gay will easily score 20, and our frontcourt has to do a better job against the bruiser types, which Marc Gasol is.

would probably win this game without that much help by the refs. We are not that good but there is no need to punish us with crazy calls. The Celtics are good enough they don’t need nanny refs. What the refs are doing is making this game UNWATCHABLE.

Consistant to the game would be nice.
If you are calling a certain foul on one team you better call it when the other does the same thing. That is not what is happening tonight. It is one thing not to call a certain foul in a game and let them be aggressive or whatnot. It is when one team gets away with it and the other doesn’t that it starts getting crazy.

Agreed...
But one reason that coaches like veterans is because they know what kind of fouls they can get away with (IE: when the Ref’s aren’t looking, or when the situation doesn’t call for a make up call on a tickey-tack play).

And then just play…we can’t play any worse than this, not by a longshot. The good news is that this is the best team in the league and we’re still in the game. I’m sure the Celts starters will be sitting for the first few minutes of the 4th—-if so, let’s get a run. We just need ONE RUN. Just a little 8-0 run or something and we’re in a good spot. Scotter made that point as well, that Noce is better as a 4. I have a “thing” about not liking non-rebounding bigs. I’m automatically opposed to a guy with a rebound rate of like 10 playing power forward, but I’m probably wrong here.

That is somewhat expected for a team like us. Acting like losers isn’t acceptable. I don’t agree with a lot of the coaching tonight, but the players themselves need to not get mopey and just run their plays. This is a lingering problem from last year. They need to snap out of it and be fighters like they were two years ago. Two years ago they were watchable even when losing. Not now.

a few observations
1. we were bad, and certainly didn’t need the help from the refs to only make it worse. the way we were playing, we should have lost by 40 though.
2. i hate when we can’t even get credit for doing something good. when we started to bounce back a little, they were saying how it was the celtics being lax.
3. mark jackson shows why he didn’t get any coaching job by saying our best lineup would be rose, gordon, hinrich.
4. have they never watched a celtics game before? they were acting like the scalabrine chanting was a surprise…
by Jaina on Oct 31, 2008 9:53 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Some encouraging things from this game
1. VDN left Tyrus in for 29 meaningful (as meaningful as could be in this game) minutes, even on 2/17 shooting. No way does Skiles or Boylan ever do this. Big props to VDN for this.
2. Noah with 13 boards in 23 minutes. He plays better with Rose than Gooden does.
3. Rose Rose Rose. He had three layups over Garnett. The Celtics are the toughest test he’ll face, and he was getting to the hole easier than Kobe was in the Finals last year.
Overall, not so bad. This won’t be the only time we get completely blown out this year, but I was happy to see us bounce back in the 3rd quarter and end with some spirit. (Our three captains though… egads.)

One thing about Rose...
I’m not sure this will be the toughest team he’ll face this year.
While Rondo is definitely a good defender, their interior looked really slow (albeit huge) to keep up with Rose. While the Celtics are a good help D team, they seemed to be tailor made to exploit by the first step dribble drives of Rose.
Just my observation.

rose was great. not his fault he only had 1 assist… we didn’t even shoot 30% for the game.
i’m glad vdn stuck it out with tyrus, but they should really have pulled him aside for some pointers, at least, because he needed another strategy when his jumpers weren’t falling.
obviously i chalked this up as a loss before the game started, but i am pleased we did manage to pull it together at least a little. i can’t believe noc fouled out though… that was pretty awful.

Yup
Being taken out for instruction and put in soon after would have been preferable. That is still different than under Skiles where not only would you never see the light of day you would not get instruction either. They kept him out there but it could have been better if they sat him down and talk to him for a minute so he could get his head on straight and go back out with a mission.

Noah should start
he was the only guy in there fighting. Gooden quit, and he quit early. I want nothing to do with him.
Luol: he wanted nothing to do with this game.
Rose played with heart. There were a lot of calls he didn’t get that he should’ve gotten. But that’s the best on ball defender he’s going to face, and the biggest interior. 28 minutes isn’t enough.
I’m glad we’ve got Memphis at home tommorrow. Big chance to bounce back. Now we see if VDN’s got anything in him as a coach.

Gooden should only play when TT is on the bench. The problem is that Gray showed for the 10000000000000 time that he doesn’t have what is need to backup Noah. So, until we find another big, we’ll have to play Gooden at that position

Badly Constructed Team
The Bulls are a badly constructed team, obviously from what have been said since last year and during the preseason. However, the Celtics game shows how bad this team is assembled. The Bulls key assets aren’t good enough to make a lost respectable. Nevertheless, what is so pathetic about this club is that they can’t even make up ground against good teams 2 units.
Paxson draft picks over the years seemed to be grade ‘A’ selections, but after terrible trades that resulted to failures to balance out this team. Paxson job should be in jeopardy this year, if the Bulls post another losing season. Gordon, Hinrich, or Thabo can beat 2nd and 3rd rate players like Rondo, Allen, or House. What role does Joke’hem Noah play on the Bulls? What improvement has he made since last year? Tyrus Thomas should come off the bench until he can show consistency with minutes earned. Thomas and Noah was Paxson worst draft choice, because they were drafted because of speculated potential and not for what they could do for a team – now- that was once on the edge of turning the corner to respectability. Paxson should have kept LaMarcus Aldridge. Deng, I like his humanitarian efforts, but unless he starts showing why he deserves his contract, Paxson signing him to almost $70 million will be as boneheaded as signing Wallace. Deng is too slow to cut to the bucket or breakdown his guy off the dribble. He was more effective at cutting in Skies offense. If his shot isn’t falling, he’s another reserve player. I thought Deng had developed some post moves? Gooden? He is a 3rd rated power forward that should be trade bait.
The Bulls core unit over the previous year, not anymore, does not play like player in the 4th and 5th season. The problem is not that this squad needs super star player. It is the fact these pieces never meshed. They’re all are one-dimensional jump shooters with no other skill to use, when their shot is not falling. Rose is a talent that can lead this team, but has no help. Paxson needs to blow up this team now or face due consequence. I had the confidence that Paxson contained the basketball acumen to make the necessary trade to help this team. But it might be better to fire him now and bring in a more competent GM.

Why was VDN hired in the first place? Please Tell me.
No way would I be able to stay in a game as a coach with my players playing the way the Bulls played tonight. No enthusiasm whatsoever. You know he didn’t rip them a new one at half for not giving any effort whatsoever. None. If i had a player (especially a young one) who missed a shot and did not hustle back they simply would not be back in the game. I would not have lasted 3 quarters let alone all game tonight.
Somebody send Tyrus Thomas the memo to stop shooting the ball. I could shoot what he shot with my eyes closed. Not exaggerating. The Bulls are not going to win anything this year if VDN dosen’t get them ready to play games. If you have a team and cannot get them ready to play the NBA Champions then you did not do your job as a coach. The Bulls were simply not ready to play tonight.
Sure the team is poorly constructed. There’s not much you can do without a low post presence to throw the ball to. However, if the roles were reveresed tonight and the Celtics gave as much effort as the Bulls and the Bulls gave as much effot as the Celtics did, the Bulls would have won. With a team as small as the Bulls are you are going to win by playing tough defense, running the ball, and limiting the turnovers and the Bulls did neither. If this is what the rest of the year is going to look like we are in for a long season.

You can’t tell who stays and who needs to go after this game?
Ben was looking for his own stat. Deng didn’t care. Hinrich look disinterested and jealous at Rose.
These guys, from last year’s games, I could tell that they no longer have the fire, the intangibles they had years ago but everything was working for them. The minute REAL pressure sets in, then they’re toast and done.
It’s exactly how we lost to Washington in the playoffs, how we lost to Miami (could have taken them to game 7), it’s just beyond frustrating.
Now a superstar-caliber player comes in, and it seems like that they can’t get used to it. How many more chances do they need?
There is a huge, distinct difference between Rose, Thomas, Nocioni, Noah….and those guys. Those other guys simply don’t care.
Rose does care.
WHy the ball isn’t in his hands 90% of the time is BEYOND ME.
Why Rose doesn’t look for his shot until the team is down by 15 is BEYOND ME.
Vinny may have something to do with that. I say forget about team basketball right now, you wanna be competitive. Rose needs to score, period. And he needs to score A LOT.

It's a pretty ridiculous question, really.
There’s no real way to know if he’s jealous or not, considering it’s a feeling and not a statistic. Anyone can sound respectful to the media. The only thing I tried to say is that someone would generally be jealous if a younger, better, version of themselves took over their role. He may or may not be; I don’t know, and neither do you.

no one knows whether he is jealous or not, including you, which is why it was unreasonable for you to laugh like that. you could have disagreed in a much more polite way, and say something like, i don’t think kirk is jealous, nothing he’s done so far has indicated such a thing. instead, you laughed and looked down on someone simply sharing their opinion.

There is really no basis for saying Kirk is jealous of Rose. You can argue that he is pissed by playing time or that his body language sucks but saying he is jealous because Rose took his job is kind of ridiculous. You can argue just as well that Kirk is pissed that Sefo is starting ahead of him. This isn’t the first time Kirk has been asked to play minutes at the 2, but it is the first time he hasn’t been a starter.
by DangerMouse on Nov 1, 2008 5:58 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs

this guy was clearly interpreting kirk’s body language. not anything he said. his body language can be against what he’s been saying in the press, as obviously he’s not going to act all bitter and whatnot unless he really wanted to screw himself over.
by Jaina on Nov 1, 2008 5:33 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Interpreting his body language
in a game when we were playing horrible? Maybe Tyrus looked mopey because he was jealous of Rose too. After all, Rose finishes at the basket and Tyrus doesn’t. Tyrus is threatened! Maybe it wasn’t the fact they were all sucking but the fact Rose is so awesome! Everyone on the team is jealous of Rose! See, you can take it any direction you want to. It is much simpler to take Hinrich at his word and assume that any of his behavior is based on the fact we were losing the game and he wasn’t play very well and not that is is obsessed with Rose.
When we are winning a game Kirk looks just as pleased as everyone else. Wouldn’t he continue to be jealous looking if it was all about Rose?

I am going to start a new “opinion” now that Thomas is jealous that Rose can finish in the paint while he can’t and is getting preferential treatment as a rookie by the team while Thomas did not and more press time despite the fact Thomas thinks he is the best on the team. I can tell all of this by the way he carries himself in a game despite the fact he never has outright said any of it. It makes perfect sense, doesn’t it? And because it is my new opinion based on some visual tip-offs of him seeming depressed and upset in a game we lost badly it is near fact and I am going to bring it up every game and expect people not to point out how ridiculous it is because every opinion is as valid as the next. Especially mine since I am an expert on body language and can see the undercurrent of tension between Thomas and Rose.

you are funny but wrong. It is clear to me that the real source of jealousy on the team is VDN, who is jealous of Rose because Rose has broad shoulders while VDN’s shoulders are slim and look kind of ridiculous in his oversized suits. His jealousy manifests itself by not playing Rose at the start of the 4th, and slumping his shoulders when the team is down by 20.
This is my opinion, and no one may question it!

a vibe between VDN and Gooden. Gooden has been getting way more press about his beard than VDN has about his hair products. They can’t even stand next to each other in a huddle and once Gooden completely blew VDN off and did not high five him when he went to the bench even though he did give the guys on either side of VDN high fives and Benny the Bull ran over got one up high and one down low as well.

Who says I'm obsessing over Rose?
I’m not even saying that Hinrich is holding some vendetta over Rose; look at what I wrote. I just think it was ludicrous to blast Half-Life over his subjective reasoning (not valid opinion, as I said. wrong choice of words) when no one can really accept or deny what Hinrich is feeling.
by NittanyCub on Nov 1, 2008 7:17 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
The burden of proof
is on the accuser I am afraid. At least in this country. And the proof against Kirk is membrane thin at best in this case. Just because Kirk can’t pop on here to deny allegations doesn’t mean the case against him is valid since “no one can really accept or deny what Hinrich is feeling”. It is circular reasoning. I can accuse any player of any jealousy and unsportsmanlike behavior then and all I’d need in evidence is slumped shoulder and lack of eye contact or something paired with my interpretation and wait around here for him to personally deny it. Plenty of basketball players say things officially that incriminate them. Kobe has said crap about his team and backed that up with looking like a jerk on the floor too. Kirk has consistently said he’s trying to work with his new position on the team and reports have backed that up adding in the fact he talks to Rose and tries to help him.
The word obsessed was in reference to Kirk towards Rose. Nothing to do with any poster here. I said Kirk’s behavior could easily be related to how bad the game was going. Not because of any implied obsession on his part about Rose starting over him etc.

I think we've gotten to the point people are "drunk posting" or something.
We need to do what Gmail did and have people complete a simple math problem before posting. It would weed stuff like that out. That being said, the next time the Bulls play the Celtics I am going to be intoxicated. Possibly before the first quarter is out.
Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

Not only could they not make a shot
but most of the time they fumbled away perfectly good passes from Rose before they even had the chance to chuck up a brick, what a bunch of bums. Rose might petition the NCAA to return to Memphis if this keeps up.

This is where watching the game trumps reading the box score
because you’d already know the answer to that question. Who generally would be D Rose’s main assist targets? And were those players not missing nearly every shot, even while open?

So, did everyone expect 82-0 or something?
The stuff people are writing is ridiculous, like they haven’t seen the Bulls play since the Miami Heat series in 2007. Thomas is a frustrating player because he has games like this (even for a blatant Tyrus apologist like me he was abysmal.) However, unlike in previous years one bad game will not warrant a benching. He’s still the best option for the 4 spot, and frankly it’s up to the coaching staff to teach Tyrus when to shoot, when to drive, and when to just calm the hell down. He’s like a child eager to please everyone.
I hope this game shows Vinny how foolish it was to start Thabo. What did his defensive awesomeness prevent? The Bulls still suck hardcore at making proper rotations, and basically didn’t give a crap on that end until the game was long over. I’m also sick of Gooden as the starting center. Noah is by far our best defensive big man (and frankly still the only one who puts forth the most effort), and he is our best big man who can set screens. Anyone else noticing this? Noah and Rose/Kirk have a very good feel for each other where he can get the ball running into the paint with at least a good shot of drawing a foul.
Rose was impressive, the only Bull driving into the lane with purpose, and when he took it right at KG a few times I got excited. Had the Bulls not shot like a bunch of asswipes, he would have had far more than 1 assist. Does Paxson now see why our roster is so messed up?

Thanks for noticing Noah
nobody else apparently has, including VDN. Gooden should never play another minute at center, but I think that he is starting at center because VDN is under orders to start Thomas at the 4, which by rights should be Goodens job.
I am also dissappointed by Thabo’s start, maybe we should have switched him over to Peirce since Deng looked like Greg Oden trying to guard him. I like Thabo, but he is not playing the way he did at the end of last season when he finally got some regular run due to injuries. I have always had a suspicion that he might be a better fit at the 3. Since Nocioni is as Van Gundy noted a better fit as a backup 4 maybe we rotate each of them up one position. This would work out great if we could get rid of Gooden and Hughes for a center or a power forward.

Well the people with actual power haven't noticed or don't seem to care
That Gooden isn’t a center and never will be unless the other team goes small.

Having Gooden is not a problem...
VDN just needs to put Gooden on the bench and play him only when Tyrus needs to rest or when he’s playing very bad, like last night. Nothing more.
I think the problem is that we don’t have another big man to be a backup of Noah. After all, we don’t have so much deph as we thought, because Gray is not the answer at 5…
Please Pax, don't trade Hughes! Just make sure that he stays injured until... 2010!!!

Noah needs to start, I agree. The trouble is, I don’t know if he and Thomas work well together. They’re both so light…so prone to stupid mistakes…but hey, I don’t see Carlos Boozer sitting on that bench. So why not?

I actually think they work way better than Tyrus and Gooden
Noah is a very underrated passer for a big man, a better 1-on-1 defender than Gooden (simply because he tries and Gooden just loafs), and at least a better defensive rebounder. Yeah, they may get pushed around but Gooden is no Kendrick Perkins.

I've been saying for awhile now
that I’d really like to see Noah and Gooden for a period. Good mix of defense and offensive rebounding (Noah) with offense and defensive rebounding (Gooden). But hey, I’d try your mix too. The point is, let’s see. Let’s find out by trying.
The only thing I can verify is that Gooden isn’t a center.

Trade everyone except Rose for Dwight
and then let them play 2 on 5
by gobulls1124 on Nov 1, 2008 12:49 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Only 2 positives from this game
Obviously Rose can get to the rim anytime that he wants to and finish most of the time with either hand.
Noah is the only guy who brings any energy to the game. When he is in the game every rebound is in play, when he is out we lose the rebounding battle against anybody. Noah should play 48 minutes every night, and Gooden should never play a single minute at center. O.K. Noah isn’t Wilt Chamberlain, who actually averaged slightly over 48 minutes per game for an entire season. But, at least he cares and tries, when he is in the game he creates havoc, gets his hand on nearly every ball coming off the rim at either end, if his teamates hustled as much as he did instead of letting him play 1 on 3 or 4 we would come up with many of the balls that he keeps in play that he can’t coral by himself.
Don’t know why VDN apparently is not a fan, maybe Noah said something about his mother.
Did anyone notice if Deng played tonight. I couldn’t tell who that guy was trying to guard Peirce, he was buried in Perices dust all night. It’s not all bad Deng will only be making over$14 million in 2012, what a deal. He might actually be as useless on defense as Gordon.
As I posted from the instant that we won the lottery, we should have traded Deng and anyone and everything else(Hinrich, Gooden, Gordon, Nocioni) to Miami for the second pick and taken Beasely after we took Rose. Especially since Beasely is looking like a 3 and not the low post threat that most mistakenly thought that he was. I think that before the draft Miami would have made a Deng based trade, of course according to Paxson Deng as a future HOFamer is untouchable.
It is already obvious that this season will be about watching to see Rose and for me Noah(he is just my kind of player), while I still pray that Thomas might get his head out of his ass and become a player. I can’t wait for the rest of the overpaid garbage to get traded. However, if this keeps up these guys won’t be any more tradable than Hughes is.
As they say,it’s only one game, and it was against the world champs, but this looks like a repeat of last season, and VDN looks as useless as BoneHead Boylan.

The biggest negative of this game: Larry Hughes
The coaches can look at this and say “look, we’ll be better with him back in the lineup”.
And the way Kirk, Ben and Thabo played, I can’t really even disagree.

We have not competed with Boston for over a year.
Tonight hopefully will be better. For me this year is about finding a trade for the ever evasive, potential inside presence. We were killed by Boston’s scoring in the paint. Noah could not contain Boston’s inside dominance. I thought Gray did the best job getting rebounds and blocking shots. Thank God there is a game tonight.

A jumpshooting power forward?
Granted, he makes his jumpshots, but seriously? He is developing his post game moreso, but the majority of his points game from perimeter shots.

We
don’t agree on LMA. I like his post game – hook shots and turnarounds seem to be his best moves. He’s got a nice perimeter shot, true, but I saw him take Duncan on the blocks a few times. I was impressed.

I won't deny he's a good player
But his post game needs work, just like any young player has to polish his game. He’s been improving steadily since he was drafted, which is what you expect from someone who gets consistent starting minutes without fear of being benched after a bad game.

That's true;
Tyrus’ growth was definitely hampered by Skiles and then Boylan. I’m not saying Ty can’t develop a post game. Physically, he’s capable, and he’s had success in the few times where he’s tried it.
VDN needs to communicate that Tyrus needs to go down low, especially when his shot isn’t falling. Last night was a perfect example. I like that VDN didn’t yank Ty even during that abominable performance. But I do think he has to give Thomas more direction when he’s having a game like that. And I think Tyrus has to listen.

what was VDN thinking?
That Tyrus’ shot was gonna start falling?
Man, with the shot selection, inability to finish,
and questionable shots, he should have not played
so many minutes.
I ain’t giving up on TT, on the contrary, but, a coach has to
realize when a guy is hot, not hot, should play more less, on
a given night. TT will bounce back, but it clearly wasn’t his night.
Coaching staff more guilty than Thomas.
He tried. They did nothing to adjust to the situation
developing, just watched it implode.
Sadly, as crap as they were playing, it was still close at halftime,
at least not a blow-out and within reach. No adjustments, really, so
it did turn ugly.

We either ask for Tyrus to be given freedom or we ask for the coaches to keep him on a leash
one of the two, not both, and live with the consequences.
by messwiththebull on Nov 1, 2008 8:59 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
After years of talk of giving Tyrus the freedom
to play through mistakes and not get a quick leash, I can’t take a post saying to do the opposite.
What Tyrus should have done is adjust his strategy, stop taking jumpshots and drive to the hoop instead. His athleticism allows him to at least get fouled, and he’s shooting over 80% from the foul line in both the preseason and regular season. If he starts taking a better shot selection, he could have a great
Ben Gordon can keep shooting because he knows they are going to fall eventually. Tyrus doesn’t have that luxury.
by runningman on Nov 1, 2008 11:30 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
But he does have to improve
we’re starting to notice his mistakes that we may not have noticed during his short stints on the court over the past two years because we were so thrilled just to have him on the court. But let’s also acknowledge the possibilty that maybe Ty still doesn’t know how to play the NBA game and regardless of how productive our stats tell us he has been, maybe the guy does make a number of mistakes that end up costing the team that don’t necessarily get reflected in his personal statistics. That’s why you watch the games.
by messwiththebull on Nov 1, 2008 11:35 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yes!
And that’s coaching, too. VDN needs to get in his ear and say “Look buddy, you’re outside shot isn’t falling, time to go inside.” Letting him make mistakes doesn’t mean you take a totally anything -goes attitude. You’ve still gotta coach.
The poster formerly known as Freethefro.

He has to diversify his game
One time go inside, another time make a jumpshot…
That’s how he’s going to trick defenders… If he keeps making jumpshots or going inside, they will easily stop him, because they will now what to expect from him…

Tough Game
Very painful yesterday…..but a few nice things and other comments
1) Noah should be our starter. While his offensive game still leaves a lot to be desired, his hustle and grit really started to annoy the Celtics and take them a bit out of their game in the second half.
2) Rose got a nice learning experience. I’m sure watching these tapes will help him.
3) The team played much harder int he 2nd half…..we just couldn’t buy a FG. We had a few nice looks, but nothing but clanks.
4) Tyrus Thomas couldn’t hit anything, while its great that he remained aggressive, hopefully they’ll observe the tapes and give him some pointers. He played like he was a kid playing against his idols—except for when he started elbowing his idol….I liked the aggressiveness. He had some awful shot attempts, but then there were at least 4-5 of them that he had been making of late. I hope he keeps his confidence. It was great that VDN and Harris helped him play through it. Hope he learns.
5) Thabo needs to sit….he’s just not there yet. Have him play a few minutes in the 2nd and 3rd gradually to build his confidence back. THe Bulls need some bang to start the game. Hinrich or Gordon need to start.
6) Deng had an off night. I’ll live with it, it’s a long season and early, so we’ll see. The problem though was that his defense was horrendous, really really bad.
7) Gray showed he has a place on the team. While he didn’t play great by any stretch, his D was more than adequate and he at least gave us a slightly different look.
8) Nocioni looked bad tonight. He was frustrated and played a frustrated game, and it showed. Hopefully this game isn’t a flashback to the frustrations of last year……
9) Gordon didn’t quite have it. I think having him start the game and give some pressure might get at least him or the other guys going. We have little offensive punch at the start of the game, and the guys looked a bit demoralized until VDN talked to them at halftime.
10) Lots of bad calls tonight. Lots of pushes, shoves, bumps, elbows, mostly favoring the Celtics (champion calls on home court). That didn’t help us recover from a dismal start, and they didn’t go away all game, but hopefully the coaching staff can show them the good things.
On the whole, I think the fact that we shot like 15% in the first half and somehow managed to only be down by 16 points, showed that we did do some things right…Our team is better than they showed, and the coaching staff has to buy in.
We picked up our aggressiveness and at least held our own with them in teh 2nd half, which is why it’s very important that we play our best players to start the game and sit Thabo until he’s ready.

Noc was in full "do too much" mode.
Of course there was much to do, but when he tried to do it we get what happened last night. He is pretty much only going to be an asset when he is letting Rose create for him…but when we play as bad as last night I am afraid he won’t be able to contain himself to that. Then we get karate-chop fouling Noc. He was in and out so much I only remember the first two fouls. The others much have come rapid fire.

I can’t stand Garnett, he’s an illiterate punk. The guy looks like a complete asshole out there. Good thing Noah didn’t back down from him, in fact I want to see Noah guard him every time from now on. Garnett, Allen, and Pierce I’d like to think these guys travel every friggin time they touch the back especially pierce mr. jumpston and a step for a lay up, or catch the the ball and jump to square up for a three. I am sorry but the NBA is TURNING INTO THE BULL SHIT LEAGUE, THEY CALL TICKY TACK SHIT, AND NEVER THE OBVIOUS BLATANT JR. HIGH LEVEL TRAVELS. The Bulls got a lot of good treatment
back when we were champs to. Perhaps it is easier to understand why many fans of other teams hated the Bulls back then just like how we are hating the situation now. The Celtics are good enough to beat us without the help of the refs. The refs decided to do what they did and pretty much made the game ugly and unwatchable on their end.

i think it's fair to say that garnett has a pretty consistent travelling violation on his back to the basket post moves.
i’m a fan of his game and have been for years, but he nearly always drags his pivot foot to an egregious level. he gets away with it because he’s a star, but i do think he’s pushing it even for a player of his reputation.

people consider good in the post doing that all the time. It drives me nuts. Part of the reason why I rarely have bigger guys like that as favorite players and teams is for that fact.
