Open Game Thread #2: Bulls at Boston Celtics - OVERFLOW
First half, big time stinko.
So bad that the fact Aaron Gray played so much isn't the worst thing I've seen tonight.
This may be one of those games where we just watch Derrick Rose and pick out some good from that. And assume everyone else will get traded eventually.

This seems like a great time
to go with a new lineup to start the 2nd half.
It will be interesting to see if VDN
had some motivational talk over the half. I really want to see them come on the floor calm, collected, and less mopey. It is one thing to lose it is another to look like losers while doing it.
Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.
About to go home from work
hopefully this game gets a little better so it’s bearable to watch when I get home.

Can we please try to be at least civil for the second half of the game.
That first post is the most unfun thing I had to get through on this site ever.

Ya tonight has been horrible
I’m kinda regretting my decision to stay home tonight instead of going out
Give the keys to Rose
and let him drive the Ferrari. I feel its too early in the game to say this, but that is our only alternative right now, sadly.
I personally find it humorous that D Rose almost looks
irritated at the play of his team.
It’s almost as if he is befuddled by the organized incompetence.
This game was a predicable loss, though. Write it off.
I think we’ll win tomorrow night.
LSU 38 OHIO STATE 24 - LSU IS THE NATIONAL CHAMPION AND I AM THE KING OF BOURBON STREET!!
Perhaps we should all talk about Rose
and forget the rest of the team for this game. Rose clearly cares. The rest of them are used to losing from last year. They are going to have to learn to not take losing like a bunch of 8th graders.
Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.
yes, true!
At one point he was giving it to somebody about something, and Gooden came in the makeshift huddle to calm things, and then VDN called a time-out.
But, yeah was Rose was giving it out, to Gordon I think it was, about a mistake,
THIS IS GOOD TO SEE!
Young or not, since there is NO leader at the moment, it may as well be their best player, Rose!
They had a nice comeback, but Rudy Gay had some circus shots go in
It’s another nice test for Rose to go up against Conley and Lowry, at least to see how he can manage defensively. Deng has to step up because Gay will easily score 20, and our frontcourt has to do a better job against the bruiser types, which Marc Gasol is.

Commenters note the Bulls lack passion.
It’s certainly true that the Bulls didn’t have that enthusiasm. Except Noc, who had the enthusiasm of one of those old ladies with a house with like 300 cats living in it.

I can see how non Bulls fans

yeah, maybe this is karma
but the foul calls are so out of whack it sickening. I would send this tape to the NBA office if I was the Bulls. They are letting the Celtics get away with murder and calling every touch foul on the Bulls.
The Celtics
would probably win this game without that much help by the refs. We are not that good but there is no need to punish us with crazy calls. The Celtics are good enough they don’t need nanny refs. What the refs are doing is making this game UNWATCHABLE.

At least they’re letting him play it out. It’ll make for an interesting film session tomorrow when he’s asked to explain what kind of landed fish he’s flopping around like.
He knows he isn't playing well.
It is probably embarrassing. One of those towel on the head on the bench nights for sure. Except tonight they are making him play it out ugly on the floor for whatever reason.

30 Minutes into the game.
And only one player with more than one field goal made. Terrible shooting night.

I almost made a fanpost about Tyrus
And how he shot something less than 40% in the pre-season, and whether we should be concerned about that going into the year. How do we feel about that?
As long as its not Thabo or Gray.
I think its okay here.

Consistant to the game would be nice.
If you are calling a certain foul on one team you better call it when the other does the same thing. That is not what is happening tonight. It is one thing not to call a certain foul in a game and let them be aggressive or whatnot. It is when one team gets away with it and the other doesn’t that it starts getting crazy.
Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.
Agreed...
But one reason that coaches like veterans is because they know what kind of fouls they can get away with (IE: when the Ref’s aren’t looking, or when the situation doesn’t call for a make up call on a tickey-tack play).

Bench Kirk
That’s a guy who doesn’t want to be out there. 2nd game of the season and he’s already quit.
I really hate how they get that way.
They need to ignore the scoreboard and make their plays. Or sit down. Someone needs to donate some of their fouls to Rose so he can play.

Noah

Deng
Gordon
Rose
We need Noah’s toughness and Goron’s shooting to start the game. Matt’s worst fears were realized, this game was over in the first 6 to 8 minutes.
Will say this...
Our defense was absolutely atrocious to start the game…no one was rotating quickly, Rondo was blowing by Rose with no help…there is no excuse for defense to be off…

That is somewhat expected for a team like us. Acting like losers isn’t acceptable. I don’t agree with a lot of the coaching tonight, but the players themselves need to not get mopey and just run their plays. This is a lingering problem from last year. They need to snap out of it and be fighters like they were two years ago. Two years ago they were watchable even when losing. Not now.

too many slumped shoulders
and when they get behind like this, they stop playing team D, and start going one on one. VDN needs to identify who is doing it, and put his foot down.
You guys are all acting weak as hell, other
than Rose this a veteran team and they need to be held to higher standards.

If the Bulls are a veteran team...
Then what are the Celtics? Immortal?

Coming off a championship.
I’m not apoligizing for our play (God knows I want to punch children right now), but I won’t feel bad because we are getting rolled by a far superior team on their home floor.

they were worst than that ;)

Plus he is the only one that can drive...
And when he does, the Celtics are too slow to keep up with him. It’s the only effective offense we have had.

Indeed.
I am pissed we are losing in this way but the Rose fan in me is pissed his stats are going to look horrible tonight with little fault of his own.

i don't remember exactly when
but Noc 6 fouls in 6 minutes tonight.
I remember
the slimmed-down Paul Pierce running right by Noce like he wasn’t even there a couple of times, and Noce reaching for fouls.

Without any more 3pts shooters
Gordon will have to make all ten shots to get us back into the game!

I can't remember a game
where so few 3 pointers were made from both sides. And as I type this, there’s two more.

Layup by Thabo.
Didn’t realize he was in the game. I think Gray might have been blocking my view or something.

Free Throw Shooting.
The one positive from the Bulls tonight. The guys made their free throws. Now if they could make their other shots…or stop the other team from making theirs.

And can we mostly agree
that everyone but Rose sucked tonight so we don’t have a zillion posts tomorrow about each player and how they sucked worse or something? The suck was pretty much evenly spread.

Noah rebounded well and showed a lot of energy

VDN
What does he do exactly, anyway?
The poster formerly known as Freethefro.
a few observations
1. we were bad, and certainly didn’t need the help from the refs to only make it worse. the way we were playing, we should have lost by 40 though.
2. i hate when we can’t even get credit for doing something good. when we started to bounce back a little, they were saying how it was the celtics being lax.
3. mark jackson shows why he didn’t get any coaching job by saying our best lineup would be rose, gordon, hinrich.
4. have they never watched a celtics game before? they were acting like the scalabrine chanting was a surprise…
Some encouraging things from this game
1. VDN left Tyrus in for 29 meaningful (as meaningful as could be in this game) minutes, even on 2/17 shooting. No way does Skiles or Boylan ever do this. Big props to VDN for this.
2. Noah with 13 boards in 23 minutes. He plays better with Rose than Gooden does.
3. Rose Rose Rose. He had three layups over Garnett. The Celtics are the toughest test he’ll face, and he was getting to the hole easier than Kobe was in the Finals last year.
Overall, not so bad. This won’t be the only time we get completely blown out this year, but I was happy to see us bounce back in the 3rd quarter and end with some spirit. (Our three captains though… egads.)
One thing about Rose...
I’m not sure this will be the toughest team he’ll face this year.
While Rondo is definitely a good defender, their interior looked really slow (albeit huge) to keep up with Rose. While the Celtics are a good help D team, they seemed to be tailor made to exploit by the first step dribble drives of Rose.
Just my observation.

agreed
rose was great. not his fault he only had 1 assist… we didn’t even shoot 30% for the game.
i’m glad vdn stuck it out with tyrus, but they should really have pulled him aside for some pointers, at least, because he needed another strategy when his jumpers weren’t falling.
obviously i chalked this up as a loss before the game started, but i am pleased we did manage to pull it together at least a little. i can’t believe noc fouled out though… that was pretty awful.
Yup
Being taken out for instruction and put in soon after would have been preferable. That is still different than under Skiles where not only would you never see the light of day you would not get instruction either. They kept him out there but it could have been better if they sat him down and talk to him for a minute so he could get his head on straight and go back out with a mission.

Noah should start
he was the only guy in there fighting. Gooden quit, and he quit early. I want nothing to do with him.
Luol: he wanted nothing to do with this game.
Rose played with heart. There were a lot of calls he didn’t get that he should’ve gotten. But that’s the best on ball defender he’s going to face, and
