Not trying to gloat or anything, but, check out Beasley's box score from his game against the Knicks last night:

4-14 from the field, 1-5 from 3 pt land, 4 rebounds! In 27 minutes! Against Zach Randolph and the Knicks! I know it's his first game and all, but I agreed this summer with the Derrick Coleman comparisons, and this is the beginning of the proof. He might light it up once a week for 30 pts, but I don't see consistent greatness from this guy. And he definitely would not have filled a need for the Bulls - five 3pt attempts! No matter what, he's not going to be an inside scoring presence. Have fun Miami.

I'm going to repost this from another thread-

I got to watch the game, and he was worse than the stat line indicates. He couldn’t keep the knicks off the boards: David Lee, Malik Rose, and Wilson Chandler ripped him up (same guys guarded him). Almost all of his shots were from the outside, on the three point stripe, and frankly, they were wide open. He did take Allen off the dribble for a lay up that was sweet, but on the whole he looked disinterested, pouty, and something I never thought I’d say. He looked soft.

There was something else, a little sublter than Beasley’s poor basketball performance. Two times, Dewayne Wade rolled his eyes at him. He also seemed kind of outside the loop on defense, in huddles…kind of like he was in his own little world. When he got knocked down, nobody helped him up.

I think he will score handily in the League, but just watching him in an NBA setting reinforced how much better Rose fits us (purely in a basketball sense). Reason being: he’s a perimeter guy. He’s not the post presence we’re looking for. His shots will definitely fall at some point, but I’m not sure the way in which he scores will change.

In other words, don’t think we passed up Amare Stoudemire. We passed up the jerkhead version of Glenn Robinson.

I'm sure his stats will get better and he'll settle down, BUT

I find your comments about his mannerisms and his teammates reaction to him the most interesting part of this story. Especially since Dwyane Wade’s contract is up in 2… (come home D!)

Riley is probably going to wish he traded him this summer. I’m thankful Riles wasn’t interested in giving up Measley for the package Paxson offered him. Phew!

From PiM:

Michael Beasley played like he was high. I promise that won’t become a running joke, but it needed to be said tonight. On a higher level of analysis, here are what I see as the two biggest problems with his offensive game. First, he’s heaving from the NBA-range 3-point line, which of course is the only one we’re using up here, and as a result is hesitant to shoot the wide-open jumpers that are a big part of his package. Second, he takes way too many shots from a low release point. He opened the Heat’s scoring with a fancy little scoop shot that really had no business going in, but that’s a really, really bad habit. Teams are going to learn that you can reach in and strip Beasley any time he makes a move toward the basket. Can you imagine if Karl Malone guarded him? Overall, though, I’m not worried. He’ll figure it out.

lolz

But considering how down and out some people were during the 1st summer league game against Miami it is nice to see Rose have a better debut than Beasley.

"I’m gonna rise up, gonna kick a little ass. Gonna kick some ass in the USA. Gonna climb a mountain, gonna sew a flag, gonna fly on an eagle. I’m gonna kick some butt, gonna drive a big truck. I’m gonna rule this world. I’m gonna kick some ass. I’m gonna rise up, gonna kick a little ass. Rock, flag, and eagle!"

hey, he was the more 'ready' player

so immediate returns were supposed to be part of the package.

Like you've said,

Beasley has star potential, no doubt about it. But I really didn’t like his demeanor on court the other day, nor that he really stayed on the perimeter. He wanted no part of David Lee.

I’m curious: do you still feel as strongly about taking Beasley over Rose, having seen Rose against NBA competion?

The Bigger Story

Mario Chalmers: 17, 7, 8 and 1 TO in 37 minutes. We should’ve taken him over Rose.

lots of posessions

but it is good return for that pick that he did take the job to start the season and didn’t make a mess.
