Bulls vs Bucks Game Thread #2

There's already 400 comments in the first post, and the site tends to load slowly as the game goes on. So, consider this the 2nd half gamethread where we can all mock Scott Skiles and his band of flunkies.

This needs 35 more words, what a stupid rule. Hey my fantasy team should be awesome this year, are you all excited about that? How about this cold weather, quite frankly it blows certain things.

FanPosts are user-created posts from the BlogABull community, and are to be treated as the opinions and views of that particular user, not that of the blogger or blog community as a whole.

Since he's at the game probably screaming at the Jumbotron for a free Dunkin Donuts bagel

I’ll say yes.

"I’m gonna rise up, gonna kick a little ass. Gonna kick some ass in the USA. Gonna climb a mountain, gonna sew a flag, gonna fly on an eagle. I’m gonna kick some butt, gonna drive a big truck. Dunkin Donuts bagels are gross

Love the coffee, however.

Exactly

I feel like we’ve given back all of the Skiles-fought gains on defense. It’s like we’re some random NBA team that can’t play defense and never knew how.

You think Skiles ever has the urge to yell at his former players about the bad D?

I can just see him wanting to correct some of the missed coverages, then remembering we’re the “bad guys” now.

Can we wait for Bogut to beat Gooden once before we automatically double-team and give up open 3s?!

I hate to say this

But we need some Skiles tough guy talk to get this defense going. They are looking weak.

Rose with 3 steals

With proper defensive coaching (probably not anytime soon) he could become a real asset on the other end of the court.

its a royal ivey situation

the Hawks started Royal Ivey for an entire season. 5 minutes into every game they would than bring in Lue or Claxton who would play the entire game. I like it. Kirk plays better off the bench.

Another Kirk-Rose difference.

On that last play of the quarter, the basket was completely unguarded. Kirk passed out to a jump shooter. Rose would have taken it to the hole, and probably either converted or drawn the foul. I mean, even Kirk had a step, and passed out of a layup opportunity. Rose makes such a difference.

by arjoseph on Oct 28, 2008 9:34 PM CDT reply actions

Methinks they won't score 82 through 3 against Boston on Friday night

But the offense looks very encouraging, now’s no time for a letdown, let’s see Rose win his NBA debut!

It starts with the fact that no-one can guard the guy with the ball.

Honestly, VDN needs to run some of those lateral shuffle drills guys do in high school. Nobody except Deng and occasionally Kirk is trying to stay with the ball handler. This causes bad shifts and open guys. We need better pressure on the ball.

At this point, nothing is "realistic"

since we don’t actually know anything about anyone. Pierce could blow out his knee tomorrow. Even now, Stacey is saying “don’t sleep on Philly.” They are just prognosticating. If we’re going to be guessing about who wins the title at this point, I’d love for our home-town announcers to guess on the Bulls. Actually, neither of these guys are including the Bulls in their top 4. Way to pump up the base, guys! I can get my objective opinions elsewhere; I want my Bulls announcers to be homers.

Man-slave, bring me my PB&J!

by wjb1492 on Oct 28, 2008 10:45 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree, it is kinda funny.

But VDN absolutely made the right decision, and it paid off, giving us a 17-1 advantage in fast break points. Gray is good for spot minutes when we want to change gears from fast to slow and grinding (or reverse).

Thabo didn’t embarrass VDN for his decisionmaking, because as predicted, he got a couple of quick fouls and had to go to the bench early. If he does that every game, he’ll continue to suck, and it will seem a little pointless to start him. But hey, he’s tall and everything, so maybe he’ll keep getting some minutes.

But did you see Deng become a finisher in the first half? He’s really developing into one, even though two or three of his dunks were waved off because of a whistle before he threw it down.

And finally, Tyrus is showing off that jumper. Like a lot of the great bigs of the past couple of decades, if he can just establish that deadly shot from 10 feet out, this should help free up the low post game that I know he has in him.

Next to these welcome developments the Thabo question is more tolerable.

Yes

He is a “defensive” specialist with some athletic ability, and that’s it. When he produces, then he’ll get more minutes. Kirk and BG are farrrr more deserving of minutes, considering they have proven for years they can produce.

If he continues to play like he did today, I have some doubts that he pkay at all...

Please Pax, don't trade Hughes! Just make sure that he stays injured until... 2010!!!

Exactly. Which is why we should throw him in any trade we can.

Before he destroys any trade value he has by displaying his ineptness.

Playing the Bucks can do that

Skiles has obviously not rubbed his bald head in angst enough to get them to play tough D. Also, you gotta love the disappearance of Charlie V in the game…I mean it’s not like he’s one of their best offensive players or anything bench him for Dan Gadzuric and Malik Allen!

Yeah, it was easier to night than Friday will likely be

It’s just nice to see the guys playing well and soundly beating a team they should beat. And after last season’s lousy shooting to start off, it’s nice for everyone to have a good game in the books to work off of, even if it is just one game.

Those PERs are going to look wicked tomorrow. I may just stop checking after that. ;)

Oh, I agree

I’m just saying…the game was fun, and was a good win, and it was nice to see Tyrus get 41 minutes – but he’s not yet anywhere near approaching the value of LMA. I think he’ll get there in the near future, but let’s not get ahead ourselves here.

So if we they could

trade Thabo and go with a guard rotation of Rose/Hinrich/Gordon and limit Hughes to garbage time think that would work?

by sue369 on Oct 28, 2008 10:28 PM CDT reply actions

Don't even trade Thabo. Keep him on the bench.

And bring him in if we’re desperate on D, otherwise use him in garbage time with Hughes. I’d much rather get rid of Larry since he’s cancerous to the team.

No chance at J-Rich.

He’s one of Jordan’s guys, he’s playing out his contract. And Joe Johnson is on the brink of a career year; we better be making the offer right now before he’s unavailable.

by arjoseph on Oct 28, 2008 10:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Another thing to think about.

Joe is in his prime right now. In 2010 he’ll probably be at the back end of the prime. Whoever pays him in 2010 is paying for downside. (It might be worth it, but I’m just saying.)

I believe that Tyrus's made shots

Were 4 jump shots and an alley-oop, and I recall him missing one jumper.

That means he was 0-for-4 on inside non-dunk 2-pointers. We all know that this is a point for development, but it’s something to track and keep an eye on.

I wonder

what kind of drills you do for this kind of thing. I’m thinking some of the “hands” drills they do for NFL wide receivers could help. It’s a coordination thing partly. It’s also partly a mental thing; he’s rushing his release. He freaks out when he gets close to the basket and isn’t dunking.

Any chance we can have a bunch of people submit that question

to David Thorpe in one of his ESPN.com chats?

we used to use

hand held body bags that a coach or other teammates would knock you around with while you try to finish strong at the rim in different scenarios: fast break, cuts in the half-court flow, post ups, etc.

He really needs to work on a little touch baby hook ala Boozer from the rim out to 10ft.

There were a lot of satisfying things about this win, and one of them was

Richard Jefferson going 5 for 17 for 15 points, 4 rebounds. He seemed frustrated all game, which is nice to see.

And of course, Tyrus actually ran the floor. Wonder if Skiles saw that…

Reflection time.

Ben Wallace line:

19 minutes, 2 points (on 1-1), 4 rebounds (all defensive), 1 steal and one turnover.

You might be the worst player in this league.

I mean, to Michael Ruffin, a stat line like that is approaching career highlight level.

Dollar per dollar, the worst player in this league. To put it into perspective, he’s making more money than Lebron James this year, and 500,000 less than Pau Gasol. Ben freakin’ Wallace. His agent should be put on trial for grand larceny.
