Pro Quality. Fan Perspective.
Around SBN: New media and the Loss of Sportsmanship

[From the FanShots. Remember, Ricky Davis was the leader of the Cavs in LeBron's rookie year -ed.]

This was posted elsewhere in a thread discussing the starting lineup, but I thought the naming of captains deserved a separate fanshot.

It's interesting to note that this year there are three captains, whereas in previous years we have had two. Wonder what this means, or foreshadows, if anything...

Oh yeah,

and WTF? Deng makes sense, but Hinrich isn’t even starting, and Gooden is supposed to be a role model but can’t play a lick of D?!

Asked what kind of player he expects to be in the next five years, he said: "Not a star, but like, a superstar. Something around, like, Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, something like that."

I don't think on the court performance should have much to do with determining captains

Except for the fact that Gooden’s a fricking space cadet out there half the time. What kind of leadership is he supposed to offer other than “don’t do what Donnie Dont does”

We have every right to dream heroic dreams. Those who say that we're in a time when there are no heroes, they just don't know where to look.

wasn't last year a team vote?

could be the same, even though it wasn’t presented that way.

The team votes

for the captains.

I hope it was a players vote. If Vinny chose Gooden as a captain

it’s a terrible sign. Although the players choosing Gooden is great either. I’m ready for Gooden to get sent out of town sooner, rather than later.

Drew Gooden really thinks Drew Gooden is good

Drew on his skills after his big game last year (Courtesty of basketbawful: http://basketbawful.blogspot.com/2008/07/2007-08-nba-worsties-part-5.html)
“I possess the tools. I don’t want to sound cocky, but I think I possess everything. I feel like I can pass, block shots, play great defense, play help defense, shoot threes.” No, not done yet. There was more. ‘’I believe that I can do it all. And confidence is the number one factor when it comes to offense. I can score in the post; I can score with my back to the basket, face up.’’

You left off the last part...

“Of course, I wouldn’t want to show up my teammates by actually doing all this in a game.” ;D

You know he's gifted enough to do all those things.

The only problem is when you got to divide the number of times he’s successful by the number of attempts.

sort of like how Aaron Gray "knows" the defense.

and football

we really haven’t had a legit captain since the late 90s, so who cares at this point.

Hinrich and Deng let this team give up last year

No way do they deserve to be captains. Noc and Noah seem like the obvious choices.

by YaoPau on Oct 28, 2008 5:38 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

yep

I think an immature-acting, drinking, weed-smoking player is the perfect choice

The team just needs to relax...

…is that smoke coming from the locker room?

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.
