My trade idea

Kirk+Gooden to Sacramento for Miller/Bobby Jackson/1st Round Pick I think it can help both teams. Gives us a veteran backup PG and a decent C. Gives Sac a good backcourt and Gooden/Hawes would be okay in the front. Thoughts?

Good trade, except for the money

Gets them closer to the luxury tax both this year and next

Money works

Sac could use someone like Kirk to put next to Martin. Next season is Miller’s last so that basically cuts 2 years off of the Kirk contract for the bulls. Miller at center with Noah getting time at both center and pf along with Tyrus gives them both chances to improve and get minutes. Gooden’s contract is about a 1M more than Jackson so if Sac lets him walk it’s a little more in their pocket after the season. And Jackson could help “teach” Rose and be good enough as a backup this season.
I want to get a superstar as bad as the next guy but it’s probably not going to happen unless some team just gets desperate so we have to look at a decent swap in line with something like this and come away with okay players and getting a pick makes the trade tolerable.
This is my first real post so I wanted something realistic…now that baseball season is winding down I’ll probably end up on here more.

yeah

i really think it’s not bad. i know people have thrown around other trades with sac before. a decent C and backup pg is exactly what we need really. because forcing kirk to backup rose is selling him short and he’s not good enough to be playing too much sg. when you think that their pgs are udrih, jackson, and i guess brown (?) hinrich is a big upgrade.

My concern with next year is that Hinrich's salary decreases while Miller's increases

What’s a $1M difference for this season becomes a $3M difference next season. While I’d love to have Miller around, I’d think that his presence would hinder any serious talks about a new contract for BG.

Won't Sacramento try to make us take Kenny Thomas?

All last season they were making acquisition of any King a requirement to take the Thomas contract.

Does this make us better?

Or is it another option to create a better financial outlook?

I think Marcus Williams just isn’t very good at the NBA level. I thought he would be better than he’s shown.

until proven otherwise

Williams is a bust, and slipped in the draft for a reason.

I know Williams is a bust

but the trade isn’t meant to be made so he can come here and play any significant minutes…all it does it get Kirk out, and gets a serviiceable guard in return who can come in and spell Rose for a few minutes…nobody who is going to command big minutes.

I'm getting sick of this

let’s trade talented player for expirings. Can we try and put deals together that result in getting better players back in return instead of better contracts. 2010 is a nice idea, but let’s work for the next two years on avoiding that and acquiring players via trade in case an opportunity comes up.

by CJ Bulls on Oct 21, 2008 3:56 PM CDT reply actions

I don't think it's that

I think it’s more of what players can you really expect in return for Kirk? He’s not going to get you a superstar no matter how much we all wish he could. Center is the only position we really need to upgrade, if you brought in a player at a different position that would demand mins. you are just going to take away time from young and slow their development. Because of that fact Miller might be one of the best Center options that could be available.

Ok but what about

Kirk + Tyrus/Noah + Gooden’s expiring contract???

Brad Miller is a great stopgap, but let’s get some all-stars in here to play alongside Rose rather than pray for free agents to show up.

Packaging Kirk or Hughes w/ Noah or Tyrus could bring back a good player

I’d be hesitant to include Gooden with Noah or Thomas w/out getting back at least 2 bigs from the other team.

The key word there is good

You can argue that a lot of players are “good” players. But when trying to get an All-Star/Superstar I’m just not sold that Kirk/Hughes/Player X would really bring that back.
