He words it kinda wierd. I may be reading into it but it sounds like he's not very happy about it.

Well, it's definitely not

the “whatever coach decides and whatever makes us win” lines from DRose.

He’s probably going to whine all season long if he already starts after a week of camp and one preseason game. Not good for locker chemistry.

The Game chose him !

This is a contract year for Hughes

So it remains to see how he handles all the bench time, especially once Gordon is back. Wonder if the Bulls can just buy him off like with what they did with Tim Thomas. He does nothing to help this team, in fact his PT is hurting Thabo’s development.

his contract runs two more years.

Oh yeah

Damn, forgot. That is sobering.

Well

so far things are playing out exactly as we expected.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

I honestly can't say

that he really said anything wrong here.

“I came in ready to go, and I’ve been on the second team from Day One,” Hughes said. “Maybe that’s how [coach Vinny Del Negro] sees it. I’m not sure. I haven’t talked to him about it because it’s camp. And camp is usually pretty fluid. I don’t know what the reasoning is behind it. We’ll have to see if this is how it’s going to be, I guess. You never know.”

That wasn’t the worst thing in the world to say. I’m guessing someone most likely asked him if he wanted to start or if he expected to start, and that was his response. It doesn’t look like he started whining out of the blue.

by NormVanBeer on Oct 10, 2008 10:08 AM CDT reply actions

He said he

hasn’t talked to him about it yet “because its camp” which implies if he doesn’t start after camp THEN he will be doing the talking. Which is totally different than Rose saying that he will do whatever is best for the team, starting or on the bench if it will help the team win as is what VDN wants.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

that remains to be seen

if he will talk to him AFTER camp or not.

You really expected LH to give the same feel-good quotes that Rose did??

by NormVanBeer on Oct 10, 2008 12:00 PM CDT up reply actions

No.

I was expected this. Which is why I’ve consistently said Hughes has to go. He won’t take benching lightly.

I'm concerned about the lack of apparent lack of communication b/t him and VDN

I think the biggest reason for optimism for this season after Rose was the change in coaching staffs and, supposedly, environment. It’s not that big a deal right now, but I was hoping to no longer see quotes from players indicating they hadn’t been communicated to regarding their role on the team. To spin it positively, maybe VDN just doesn’t see Hughes as a priority and would rather spend his time bonding with the rest of the team.

We have every right to dream heroic dreams. Those who say that we're in a time when there are no heroes, they just don't know where to look.

I would say thats a safe assumption.

Hughes is smart enough to know that he doesn’t figure into the Bulls long term plans. If Hughes doesn’t get traded this year I would be suprised. That may be why VDN is not communicating with him, VDN knows he’s not going to be here very long.

That's my take.

We’ve heard nothing but great things about Del Negro has communicated w/ the likes of Thomas, Noah and Rose. Why would hughes be different? Well, because he obviously is not in future plans past 2010.

To spin it even more positively (at least in scheming sort of way): Maybe Del Negro isn’t talking to Hughes so as to piss him off so as to give Del Negro an excuse to send him home or something. Okay, that’s a stretch.

he has started for most of his career

But he has been in losing teams for most of his career.. Maybe it is related. If he starts, it tells me that we are destined to fail.
