Rumor Press Update on Gordon
Tech9 is a pretty consistently biased source, but he's still a source, and I note that his language here is "a long term extension that is on the table". Perhaps I'm parsing too much, but that's different than "the long term extension that has been on the table".
Maybe the Bulls have sweetened their deal a bit?

Thank God some news!
Finally some confirmation that there are negotiations for a LTD. Why does this need to be a big secret? Or are reporters not willing to do a little investigation? My guess the latter.

the summer of George!!
sorry but, this Seinfield episode was on last night and it reminds me of the Bulls offseason. This was supposed to be an important, lots of action offseason for Pax and co., and well it took weeks to lockup Deng, BG well….and we havent done a thing to sure up the logjam our backcourt situation. But, we did get lucky w/the #1 pick and now are at a stalemate….
I vote for Thomas to play, play more and play regularly.-Sam Smith

It still is important
We got Rose and once Gordon makes up his mind the next move will be put in place. Remember what Paxson said; he would not make a move until Gordon’s situation was settled. Once it is Paxson will know who he can move and which trade scenarios he will revist with teams he has talked with over the summer. IMO

Um, no it's not.

yeah, but it's nothing new either
it’s pretty much more of the same thing we’ve been reading all day
by NormVanBeer on Oct 1, 2008 9:24 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I actually think it is
because it’s at least somewhat of a “source” saying a long-term deal is being discussed.
That’s been speculated by us, this is confirmation if I’m reading it right. And that’s a contrast to what I’ve read from Hanley and KC Johnson.
Maybe it’s not much new, but hey, we’re 50 minutes from the deadline and I’m getting desperate.

Is there any way we don't know what happens tonight?
I really want to know before I go to sleep.

im about to give up
it’ll be midnight here on the east coast before the deadline even passes, and then who knows how long it’ll take before the info leaks out of fort knox (aka, the bulls front office). good to know that i wasted an entire day constantly refreshing this blog, hanleys, kc’s, and bulls.com in hopes of an answer.

So we can hear that Gordon singed a QO.
Sorry about being so pessimistic but the Cubs just lost so things aren’t going all that great today.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls/chi-02-bulls-chicagooct02,0,5081116.story
It ended with the virtually unprecedented move of a team releasing a statement at 11 p.m., with general manager John Paxson scheduled to address the saga further after Thursday morning’s practice session.
Gordon, contacted late Wednesday, declined to comment about the decision he said he had made 24 hours earlier on whether to sign a one-year qualifying offer of $6.4 million or agree to a long-term extension.
Looks like no resolution to this tonight.
I don’t know what this means, but it’s phrased pretty ominously by KC

I'm actually thinking the dude might have gotten traded
…or is about to be. This is pretty weird:
Monday at the Berto Center, Gordon vowed not to let his contract situation become a distraction and said he would watch all practices in support of his teammates. Nevertheless, Gordon left Wednesday morning’s session early and wasn’t present at the Berto Center on Wednesday night.

That's reassuring...
I kinda figured HE’D be asleep too by now.
Asked what kind of player he expects to be in the next five years, he said: "Not a star, but like, a superstar. Something around, like, Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, something like that."

Here is the article
Gordon agrees to qualifying offer
October 1, 2008 – The Chicago Bulls today announced that guard Ben Gordon agreed to accept the one-year qualifying offer that had been tendered to him by the team.
Gordon will thus be under contract with the Bulls until the end of the 2008.09 season, at which time he will become an unrestricted free-agent.
The 6-3, 200-pound Gordon has appeared in 316 games, including 128 starting assignments, in four seasons with the Bulls. During that time, he has averaged 18.0 ppg, 2.9 rpg and 2.9 apg, while shooting .432 from the field and .416 from three-point range.
Last season in 72 games, he led the team in scoring for the third consecutive season, posting 18.6 ppg and shot a career-high .908 percent (third in NBA) from the free throw line. Gordon was selected by the Bulls in the first round (third overall) in the 2004 NBA Draft.

Well, yes I did
But this can’t be all. I’ts just not smart-for either side. I also disgree with trading our “bad contracts” for short term contracts for “cap space.”

by chgobr on Oct 1, 2008 11:11 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Seriously. This was painstaking. And why was he skipping practice today if he knew he'd accepted the QO?
Like with anything Bulls, this is pretty wack.

KC's story is out
Here is the link to tomorrow’s story.
There is some interesting information. I am struck by his agent saying
“He’s very happy to be able to go back and play basketball,” agent Raymond Brothers said. “He looks forward to talking to the Bulls next summer about an extension.”
by chgobr on Oct 1, 2008 11:29 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I dunno
But that article was very poorly written. Half of it is in present tense, then some in past.
It doesn’t make sense.
That might have been a quote after last summer

Way to go KC.

He can slightly redeem himself
with some inside scoop of BG’s first practice – I’m wondering what the rest of the team thinks.

I'll believe that when I see it.
And even if it happens that the Bulls offer the most and he decides to stay, no way he’s looking forward to another summer of negotiations! (Nor am I, for that matter.)
Man-slave, bring me my PB&J!

I'm glad that is over.
Now we can all focus on news from the practices, Rose, VDN, and whatever else non-Gordon related should pop up. Because this dead horse needs to be put to rest.
Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.
by cranscape on Oct 1, 2008 11:30 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I get the feeling
that the dead horse is very much alive and kicking.
I would guess that will be hearing empty speculation about Gordon and his present/future relationship with the Bulls for another full year now.
Crap.
by dogra on Oct 1, 2008 11:45 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Pretty much
Every shot he takes will be evidence of selfishness.
Every substitution will be evidence of a conspiracy to either play him more or less than he deserves.
This blows.
by Sports2 on Oct 1, 2008 11:53 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed
Now every time that Gordon does something that could be viewed/twisted as detrimental to the team, it’s going to be spun that way.
Remember all those chuck shots with 3 guys on him from last season?
It’s cuz he doesn’t care about the team.
When he says that he thinks he should start, it’s cuz he doesn’t care about the team.
When/if he gets hurt,. He’s not really hurt he just doesn’t care.
I think you get the point.
I really hope we won’t have to deal with this, but I know that’s how the media would spin it.
I highly doubt Gordon will intentionally sabotage the team.
by Edicus2288i on Oct 1, 2008 11:56 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Hopefully:
the media pressure for that forces him to pick his shots better, and then he develops into a player so awesome that when Pax and Reinsdorf let him go, I will be forced to realign my team loyalties.
by Prevenge on Oct 6, 2008 3:24 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
All is not lost
Now Pax can talk to teams with some degree of certainty. This makes it more likely that Pax will be able to make a trade between now and the trade deadline-especially witha team that is looking for “one more player.”
by hlac on Oct 2, 2008 12:09 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
true, Pax is dealing from a position of strength
since his team isn’t all hung-up on getting good players. Makes deals a lot easier.
