Open Game Thread #43: Bulls vs Phoenix Suns
[Thanks to sue for today's game thread. Sorry it's up late. -Matt]
This won't be anything like the other game day threads but at least we won't have to go through all of the other posts from Fridays game.
I don't look for a win today but I hope they at least look like they want to win.
We need to get rid of the injury bug soon. If you've never had an abdominal strain they hurt like hell. I admire Thabo playing through his.

If no one else is scoring
:-)
I'll take his inspired play and give him slack for his Noc imitation...
Ya know, there's an outside chance
'Course, it's so typical that is would be on a day that the game is blacked out....(sigh)
Tyrus sounds
I've tried to have an open mind about Boylan
And while we're on the subject of game planning, I know Kirk is shy and wants to get his teammates involved, but as of right now he's our best scorer. And oh yeah, it'd actually make a lot of sense to force Steve Nash to work a little on defense.
I mean, isn't this stuff basketball 101?
Someone on the Bulls bench
lumbering 280lb centers
At least he tries...
I wish Duhon

Boylan lovingly calls Duhon
'nuff said.
Yeah
And I don't remember Skiles ever calling him that is press conferences.
He always said "Du"...
He has an abdominal strain
How are you guys listening to this game?
Go to
If you look where they have game tickets for sale you can click on 'Listen here". You may have to register with NBA to listen.
Yeah, TT would probably be drooling
Not to mention a WINNING club...
Hahaha
It would also be typical that they would play him into the rotation so much that he would become the offensive monster that we would expect.
PHX doesn't play much D, so it would be a nice fit for him.
What sucks though
UGH.
Not gonna win games like that - I don't care HOW much D you play.
Smith + Nocioni

Nice to hear
He's being guarded by Nash, Sue! HaHaHa
I'll take
That's deceiving though
COUNT on it.
You guys are funny!
I think
Hopefully some other guys hit, too,
Just talked to a buddy in Phoenix
And it's on FOX no less....
So why wouldn't League Pass show it?
We are but pawns to the satelite companies...
halftime notes from the UC...
Noah played well when he was in, but had trouble finishing at the rim.
Du is getting way too much playing time, as always. It kills me.
Our perimeter defense is hurting us. Nash and co. getting into the lane at will.
Oh, and playing sluggish Gray against the Suns ain't a real genius idea.
Boxscore has Du at 5 minutes?
Because the game isn't on tv

Suns radio guy, Irish Tim Kempton
And both radio (not TV) guys seem to think it's pronounced TAY-bo, instead of TAH-bo.
And this was originally supposed to be national ABC game, but they got the Celts instead, because the Bulls are, uh. disappointing?
By the score, it doesn't seem like they've got a better one. The Suns are only used to practicing 45mins max around this time of day, so they usually start slowly on the morning games. Maybe that's affecting ORL vs. BOS also.
I think I need glasses

The Suns have rectified the situation
Yes

I'm loving Wennington
You like Boylan too
Down 4
I almost wish this Boston game is a blowout so they hate themselves afterwards for not airing a better game
Magic out scored Celts
Suns about 2 of 20
Kirk is having his way vs Nash, and Tyrus had his moments, but this looks like on ethe Suns will get in the 4th, when the D and rebounding pick up. A lot of air balls by Bulls.
Thabo looks good again also. Not bothered by Bell, really.
The more minutes Nocioni plays

They have a
And the Suns start their pull away
Better get Kirk in there quickly

Not being able to see the game
Might have to try listening over watching more often! LOL

Man, I wish Bulls shot better.
really sick of this
It's kind of cool to listen to the Suns
Having BG
34.7% shooting
Post game observations from the UC...
(2) I have never seen a team that struggles to finish at the rim like the Bulls. Duhon, Hinrich, Tyrus, Noah, Wallace. Bigs, smalls. None of them can make a layup. The Bulls must have had fifteen shots within two feet of the rim that they simply missed. Many weren't even contested. Tyrus had three blown layups and a missed oop. Noah had even more misse layups. And Du left every layup attempt short. It's unreal;
(3) Du was terrible. What did have, five points and three assists in numerous minutes? Why?;
(4) That was the worst game Noc has ever played in a Bulls uni. Horrendous on both ends;
(5) After the first quarter, Kirk played well;
(6) Other than his finishing problems, Tyrus played well. He had a double double. He also had two nice blocks. But the best play of the entire game came with about five minutes left in the fourth. Nash snagged a rebound and pushed the ball up court. Tyrus was standing at the elbow waiting as Nash sprinted down the court at full speed. There wasn't another defender within ten feet. You could almost see Nash size up Tyrus and decide to take him one on one. Nash put on a couple of quick shoulder shimmies...and Tyrus stole it, picked it clean. He went back the other way, drove to the hole, and kicked it back to Hinrich for a wide open three that would have cut it to six. Hinrich missed;
(7) I looked up at the corner scoreboars with 5:58 left in the game. The Bulls had two points in the quarter and were shooting ten - yes, ten - percent from the field.
Boylan had
seriously ...
no one stepped up besides kirk. we have a pretty crappy team without deng and gordon. how do you only score 77 pts against the suns? jesus.

While I feel fortunate to have seen
Some Eddie Johnson gems from the TV:
Suns were fortunate Noc wasn't on, 'cause the Bulls need his pts with BG and Deng out.
Skiles vs Wallace's headband. "Ridiculous. Let him wear a mini skirt under his shorts if he plays hard every night."
Scottie Pip could make a great NBA coach, based on the professional dedication evidenced during a year in HOU together. "And even Jordan in Charlotte just doesn't seem right".
"Bulls are good example of why you can't stand still (as a franchise) in the NBA". But I disagree with his contention that they didn't add anything in the off season. I think Noah (and even Gray) are significant enough for a young team. If they could have had, say, a Derrick Fisher-type veteran to replace Duhon, that would have meant a lot more than Joe Smith replacing PJ Brown. Compared to the Suns losing Kurt Thomas and James Jones for Grant Hill, I'd choose the Bulls moves.
I just think DET showed the rest of the league in the playoffs how to deal with Ben Wallace and the 4 on 5. And the Bulls tuned out Skiles with the bad start, and lost they're defensive edge this year.
Reinsdorf speaks.
Lets give the bulls a break
That works for today's game
The Bull suck. Not enough excuses to go around for this pitiful start.
by RogersPark Kris on Jan 27, 2008 7:31 PM CST up reply actions
Duhon's out for the next few games
Given the way he played today, that might not be a bad thing.
I'm suddenly a little worried about our guards
But I think this leaves A-Drain the only one actually healthy? BG's had the wrist, Thabo the abdominal strain, Kirk has a new body part taped just about every game, Du with the knee, and JamesOn having surgery on a thumb. So much for depth.
Replay
Did the U or Comcast show this game at all yesterday. Damn contract between ABC & NBA!
You didn't miss much
Tyrus WAS hitting his jumper in 1st half....
