Amare to Chicago?

This Morning on the Dan Patrick Show, Patrick's cast featured an piece about the Suns and possible trades involving either or both Amare Stoudemire and Sean Marion before the upcoming trade deadline. Patrick had a Sports Illustrated writer on who recently wrote an article in SI saying that the Suns were clearly not happy with these two players--and that the players weren't happy in Phoenix.
Patrick asked the reporter about where they'd likely go and he responded that the Milwaukee Bucks and Chicago Bulls would be frontrunners.

Amare to Chicago?
I don't think there's anybody on this team who isn't expendable when it comes to getting him.

obviously
it'd have to be a combination of these players, but I'd say Yes; Anyone.  Anyone in the world should say Yes; Duhon.  Is that a joke?

It would be...
Tyrus, Duhon, Noc.

by Kemp on Jan 17, 2008 6:38 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

If Bulls got both Shawn and Amare,
I could completely stop following my second team!

Seriously, though this sounds like a joke, I have heard rumors out west here. It's believed the Suns want Noah because they invited him to a game (along w/ C. Brewer) and showed him around prior to the ping-pong ball selections. So one never knows...

Kemp, certainly Kerr wouldn't/couldn't trade his undersized center without getting a big in return? So Noah would have to be in there, yes?

Diaw is a much more likely possibility. I'd trade Noc (and Du?) for him. Who knows, maybe it'd be one of those mythical "help for both teams" deals. On one hand, I think the Suns would have to be feeling desperate (perhaps another LAL loss tonight?), because Diaw absolutely, positively has All-Star skills. But I'm afraid he's likely to break your heart, and the flashes of talent are why this is so.

Pretty much
If you're trying to deal Amare and Marion you're talking about almost 30 mil in combined contracts.

Chicago would have to send Wallace, Noah, Noc or Hinrich, and probably more to acquire both.

I doubt the Suns make any midseason moves.  They still think they can win the West with what they have.  I think they need lots of luck.  Bynum going down with an injury is one example of good luck for the Suns.  They still need more though.

by NBA Observer on Jan 18, 2008 9:18 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Meh
If I were the Suns, I'd be interested in Hinrich, Noah, Thabo and perhaps Thomas.

And expiring contracts.

They could get good offers for Marion or Amare, so we shouldn't expect we'd get either of them in any deal that involves a guy like Wallace.

by Sports2 on Jan 17, 2008 8:05 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

If I were the Suns . . .
The only way I would trade Amare to the Bulls would if I'm getting Deng back.  The Suns would be giving up the best player in the trade, so the least the Bulls could do is send them their best player.

by Big D on Jan 17, 2008 8:21 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Midseason trades with Deng and Gordon
Because they declined their contract extensions it is difficult to get equal value for them.  Everyone knows they are players that will command 7-11 mil per contracts, but they're only inked for 4th year rookie deals at 6 and 3.5 mil right now.

I think Steve Nash makes Ben Wallace look like a respectable offensive player.  That's why I always talk about Chicago dealing with Phoenix to swap Amare and Wallace.

It's a real long shot though.

How bout this one....
Wallace, Deng (with exception), Noah, and Duhon for Amare and Diaw. I think they should also give us the Atlanta pick (Phoenix loves to give away draft picks). Amare and Diaw both have 4 more years left. Perhaps they can dump Wallace next year and give Deng a sign and trade.

Heres an unrealistic blockbuster, but
you could make some kind of argument I guess...

Three Team

Bulls send First Round '08 pick to Memphis, 1st round '09 to Phoenix.  (Phoenix can possibly send DJ Stawberry to Memphis too)

Starting Lineup:

Hinrich
Sefalosha
Deng
Gasol
Stoudamire

noble, but impractical
I love everything about this, but it's, literally, impossible. Enjoy the aspirations and dreams....

It kind of pains me to say this
But I would see Deng in a package for Amare in a heartbeat.

It's too bad they beat the suns beat the lakers tonight.

by Seth on Jan 18, 2008 4:41 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

This was an expected win for the Suns
The presence of Bynum gave the Suns real problems earlier this season.  The Lakers were having their way with the Suns.  Both teams attributed the effect to Bynum.  The Lakers have blown out a fully stocked Suns roster already with Bynum out there.

The Suns just have no quality defensive big men and Amare Stoudemire just isn't a center.  He can score.  He can pass.  But he does not like low post contact.  He's complained about it almost every season.

Here's my trade
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=1981~3224~3028~3032~660~1727&teams=21~ 21~21~21~4~4&te=&cash=

Bulls ship out Noah, Thomas, Sefalosha and Hinrich for Amare and Piatkowski (and I HATE piatkowski, but his salary makes the trade work).

Phoenix would get the athleticism of Thomas and Noah and all their upside.  They'd get a solid major minute backup and eventual replacement of Nash (And Kirk could learn from Nash a few things on the offensive end), and they'd get another flexible player like Thabo who could thrive in their system.  THe Bulls give up all our future guns for a 23? yr old big with chronic knee issues (but one who's fabulous when healthy on the offensive end).

I'd like these Bulls to play:
Duhon (ouch that stinks)/BG/maybe Curry at PG?
Gordon/Deng/Griffin/Piatkowski/Curry at SG
Deng/Noc/Khryapa at SF
Stoudemire/Smith at PF
Wallace/Gray at C.

Our guard spots would be on the weakish end, but it's no bother when you've got Stoudemire and Wallace (offense and presumably defense) down low.

The Suns would look great with all kinds of potential:
Nash/Hinrich/Thabo/Banks at PG
Bell/Barbosa/Hill/Thabo at SG
Marion/Hill/Diaw/Thabo/Thomas at SF
Diaw/Marion/Thomas/Noah at PF
Noah/Diaw/Skinner/Thomas (it is D'Antoni after all) at Center....

Man I'd be scared of that lineup especially if you presume Kirk gets to his old self, and THomas/Noah improve.  Thabo would thrive maybe as the eventual Bell like starting role with the club.  Phoenix would be out of the cap troubles for a bit and be able to sign Marion again.....

Noah's defensive versatility and gritty play would help them defensively and Diaw would be back to his 05-06 ways with a consistent role and an offensive threat again.  Nash would make everyone look incredible, and the Suns would be the most athletic team in the league.

I actually think the Suns would have a good trade for Stoudemire here....going into this season I would have said NO WAY, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

The Bulls get the 23 yr old Stoudemire to build off of, and try to get some free agent guards to come to Chicago in the off season.  We resign Deng and see what we get for Gordon, or maybe even keep both.

We'd be a turnover centric team with BG playing a lot of backup PG minutes, but in 2 years we could be back.

The Suns might have enough flexiibility and speed to outrun folks even more, but this time have a little bit of a D presence thanks to Thabo, Hinrich, Tyrus and Noah.

I like the trade for both teams, Phx improves with a more stable locker room and gobs of young
talent who are flexible and would thrive in D'Antoni's style...

It's a lot to ask for, but I think it's something we have to do (better than nothing, let's try something that might turn our future around).  Chicago would be a draw for veterans to come for the minimum with our marquee superstar Stoudemire.

I think the Suns would end up the most talented in the league after the fact (having Nash, Marion, Diaw, Hinrich, T2, Noah, Thomas, Hill, Barbosa (who I almost forgot with the talent), Bell, it's ridiculous......small, but ridiculous.

2 notes
  1. This deal would make us very very slim at the guard.  I think you can deal Thabo or Kirk, preferably Kirk, but when you deal both you lose a lot.  If you do deal both I think you have to obtain a quality guard in return.
  2. Sam Smith says the Suns will only trade for players that can score.  He says everyone in the Suns system must be able to score.  When they have on player on the floor that struggles with scoring, the whole system breaks down.  This same crutch shows up with Toronto too.
Steve Kerr probably needs to see one more playoff failure before he starts considering adding defensive big that probably lacks scoring ability.

by NBA Observer on Jan 18, 2008 1:18 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with your points....
But I think that that new Suns team would flourish and know that the Bulls wouldn't be closer to title contenders until we beefed up our guards again.

I think Phx will struggle with its current lineup due to locker room troubles (They have the talent).  Giving Diaw more time while having a very quality backup for Nash, and the versatility of Noah and Thomas and Sefalosha could be deadly for them.....

I've seem Amare be unstoppable, but I've also seen other guys (Boozer, Duncan, have their way with him and the Suns on given nights).  Noah would be a younger, taller version of Kurt Thomas (at least I think it was Kurt Thomas, I always get him--he's on the Sonics, mixed up with a similar guy on the Kings....)....

It's a risk for both sides, better short term for the Suns in my book, hopefully better long term for the Bulls with our marquee superstar.  THink Amare's still years away from his peak too.

by majoyenrac on Jan 18, 2008 1:36 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I knew I shouldn't have come back here....
a) Amare turned 25 on Nov 16. An easy one for me to remember :)

b) Without breaking out the calculator to get it exact, this adds 3.4M to a Suns team that will give you players/picks to get under the cap. Immediate problem for cheapskate owner.

c) If the Amare/Wallace front court works, there is a winning window of opportunity = how much longer BBen has left (or is he indeed now a has-Ben). So the guard situation (small and thin) needs fixing immediately. Grey would have to step up to make this an okay trade long term.

Keep Sefo and hope they go for it? Keep Kirk and give them Noc? I don't know, but I looked at how D'Antoni would have to find mins for Barbosa, Hinrich, Sefo, TT, Noah, and Skinner and had a good laugh! (It feels better to laugh than cry). We want to see him play Banks and Strawberry or Tucker some, fa' chrissakes!

Ummm
Can someone explain to me why Deng is the "golden child" of this team?  He is a good player, but not great.  I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not sure he will ever be great.  Is there some secret stat that I am not privvy to which would change my thinking?  If we are talking about getting a legit big man who can score like Stat or Gasol, I will drive Deng to the airport myself.

by Stay Chisel on Jan 18, 2008 1:45 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I'm fine with including Deng
But Luol is going to want a big deal next year (and the Suns would likely rather keep their better version of him with Marion), so why wouldn't they want the younger assets of Noah, THabo, and Thomas?  All 3 are cheaper and all seem to be more athletic.  Unfortunately all 3 are still young and very raw....

Total Roster Overhaul
I was fooling around on TradeMachine and managed to trade the entire Bulls roster except for Demetris Nichols (his trade restriction doesn't allow him to be included in a trade in combination with other players).  Anyways, here it is, a 4 team-trade with the Hawks, Blazers, and Suns...
4 team trade
What time is it? Game time!

by cliff levingston on Jan 18, 2008 7:20 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Great work
That's pretty damn awesome!  I'd be up for that trade, although keeping Nichols from the old regime might spoil the locker room enough to make us stink regardless of who we have.

by majoyenrac on Jan 18, 2008 7:31 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I was suprised...
that I could get the salaries to work (it only took 2 tries), but I'm not sure it's necessarily a fair trade. We do end up with a good roster, and just release Nichols. I just wanted to mess around and see if I could trade the whole team...

I clicked the link again and now it says that the trade failed and the Bulls are over...wonder how that happened?

not sure if its a fair trade????
Blazer fans everywhere are laughing hysterically at the ignorance of this trade.  You basically have us sending away Roy, Aldridge, Jack, and Pryzbilla for Ben Gordan.  Get fucking real.  This trade is soooo lobsided I took it as a complete joke until you said you thought it might be fair.

I came up with a counter offer that is just as "fair" as the one you came up with.  check it out:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=2429~2381~3028~3032~454&teams=22~22~22 ~22~4&te=&cash=

Uh
No need for that.. it was kinda a joke.  I mean.. the idea was just to see if he could trade away the whole team.  Not that whether the trade was perfectly fair as it's completely unrealistic to begin with!

Denigrating people
How the hell can something be lobsided?

by jpx7 on Jan 24, 2008 12:44 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Looks good for us, better for Memphis
But how does this work for the Suns? Wallace won't be able to play at their pace....

If we still hand Chandler and wanted to part with him, then we totally good get Stoudemire this year.  Chandler's speed would compliment the Suns and his D would help them inside (of course this assume's we still have the old Chandler, it would totally work wtih today's Tyson).

by majoyenrac on Jan 18, 2008 8:02 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

good point about Wallace...
i was just assuming they would want him to try to bring some defense to the team.  Maybe we can throw in the 2nd round '08 pick to Phoenix.

by Mattchoo on Jan 18, 2008 8:04 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

C'mon folks!
There can be NO TRADE THAT DUMPS WALLACE ON PHX!!!!!

I know we're not dealing with reality much here, but........Sheesh!!!!

by marionette on Jan 19, 2008 12:23 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Reality
this is never-never-land as far as realistic trades go.  Two things:
  1. If you are trading for Marion or Amare, say goodbye to deng. period.
  2. Nobody wants ben wallace with his contract. He has no value except in making salaries match as somewhat of a throw-in.

by rudy4prez on Jan 19, 2008 4:48 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

ESPN Insider Rumor Central
has a Suns exec saying that they aren't trading any of their "core" guys this year, period.  Amare is definitely a core guy, so I'd stop dreaming on this one.  I don't know if they include Marion in the "core" anymore . . .

by arjoseph on Jan 21, 2008 12:55 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Uh, yeah. That's the core: Nash, Stat, and 'Trix.
But certain Sun fans luuuuuuv to dream of Marion trades, a failing I characterize as due to not watching the off-the-ball game fully.

I don't know about my Diaw for Noc idea anymore. I still think it answers needs, potentially. But as I said in another thread, Noc can be effective in 25mins. I'm not sure about Diaw. Since GHill's appendectomy, Diaw's been really good with increased PT. Having another young front court talent needing mins wouldn't help the logjam.
