Amare to Chicago?
This Morning on the Dan Patrick Show, Patrick's cast featured an piece about the Suns and possible trades involving either or both Amare Stoudemire and Sean Marion before the upcoming trade deadline. Patrick had a Sports Illustrated writer on who recently wrote an article in SI saying that the Suns were clearly not happy with these two players--and that the players weren't happy in Phoenix.
Patrick asked the reporter about where they'd likely go and he responded that the Milwaukee Bucks and Chicago Bulls would be frontrunners.
Amare to Chicago?
I don't think there's anybody on this team who isn't expendable when it comes to getting him.

obviously
If Bulls got both Shawn and Amare,
Seriously, though this sounds like a joke, I have heard rumors out west here. It's believed the Suns want Noah because they invited him to a game (along w/ C. Brewer) and showed him around prior to the ping-pong ball selections. So one never knows...
Kemp, certainly Kerr wouldn't/couldn't trade his undersized center without getting a big in return? So Noah would have to be in there, yes?
Diaw is a much more likely possibility. I'd trade Noc (and Du?) for him. Who knows, maybe it'd be one of those mythical "help for both teams" deals. On one hand, I think the Suns would have to be feeling desperate (perhaps another LAL loss tonight?), because Diaw absolutely, positively has All-Star skills. But I'm afraid he's likely to break your heart, and the flashes of talent are why this is so.
Pretty much
Chicago would have to send Wallace, Noah, Noc or Hinrich, and probably more to acquire both.
I doubt the Suns make any midseason moves. They still think they can win the West with what they have. I think they need lots of luck. Bynum going down with an injury is one example of good luck for the Suns. They still need more though.

Meh
And expiring contracts.
They could get good offers for Marion or Amare, so we shouldn't expect we'd get either of them in any deal that involves a guy like Wallace.
If I were the Suns . . .
Midseason trades with Deng and Gordon
I think Steve Nash makes Ben Wallace look like a respectable offensive player. That's why I always talk about Chicago dealing with Phoenix to swap Amare and Wallace.
It's a real long shot though.

How bout this one....
Heres an unrealistic blockbuster, but
Bulls send First Round '08 pick to Memphis, 1st round '09 to Phoenix. (Phoenix can possibly send DJ Stawberry to Memphis too)
Starting Lineup:
Hinrich
Sefalosha
Deng
Gasol
Stoudamire
noble, but impractical
It kind of pains me to say this
It's too bad they beat the suns beat the lakers tonight.

This was an expected win for the Suns
The Suns just have no quality defensive big men and Amare Stoudemire just isn't a center. He can score. He can pass. But he does not like low post contact. He's complained about it almost every season.

Here's my trade
Bulls ship out Noah, Thomas, Sefalosha and Hinrich for Amare and Piatkowski (and I HATE piatkowski, but his salary makes the trade work).
Phoenix would get the athleticism of Thomas and Noah and all their upside. They'd get a solid major minute backup and eventual replacement of Nash (And Kirk could learn from Nash a few things on the offensive end), and they'd get another flexible player like Thabo who could thrive in their system. THe Bulls give up all our future guns for a 23? yr old big with chronic knee issues (but one who's fabulous when healthy on the offensive end).
I'd like these Bulls to play:
Duhon (ouch that stinks)/BG/maybe Curry at PG?
Gordon/Deng/Griffin/Piatkowski/Curry at SG
Deng/Noc/Khryapa at SF
Stoudemire/Smith at PF
Wallace/Gray at C.
Our guard spots would be on the weakish end, but it's no bother when you've got Stoudemire and Wallace (offense and presumably defense) down low.
The Suns would look great with all kinds of potential:
Nash/Hinrich/Thabo/Banks at PG
Bell/Barbosa/Hill/Thabo at SG
Marion/Hill/Diaw/Thabo/Thomas at SF
Diaw/Marion/Thomas/Noah at PF
Noah/Diaw/Skinner/Thomas (it is D'Antoni after all) at Center....
Man I'd be scared of that lineup especially if you presume Kirk gets to his old self, and THomas/Noah improve. Thabo would thrive maybe as the eventual Bell like starting role with the club. Phoenix would be out of the cap troubles for a bit and be able to sign Marion again.....
Noah's defensive versatility and gritty play would help them defensively and Diaw would be back to his 05-06 ways with a consistent role and an offensive threat again. Nash would make everyone look incredible, and the Suns would be the most athletic team in the league.
I actually think the Suns would have a good trade for Stoudemire here....going into this season I would have said NO WAY, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
The Bulls get the 23 yr old Stoudemire to build off of, and try to get some free agent guards to come to Chicago in the off season. We resign Deng and see what we get for Gordon, or maybe even keep both.
We'd be a turnover centric team with BG playing a lot of backup PG minutes, but in 2 years we could be back.
The Suns might have enough flexiibility and speed to outrun folks even more, but this time have a little bit of a D presence thanks to Thabo, Hinrich, Tyrus and Noah.
I like the trade for both teams, Phx improves with a more stable locker room and gobs of young
talent who are flexible and would thrive in D'Antoni's style...
It's a lot to ask for, but I think it's something we have to do (better than nothing, let's try something that might turn our future around). Chicago would be a draw for veterans to come for the minimum with our marquee superstar Stoudemire.
I think the Suns would end up the most talented in the league after the fact (having Nash, Marion, Diaw, Hinrich, T2, Noah, Thomas, Hill, Barbosa (who I almost forgot with the talent), Bell, it's ridiculous......small, but ridiculous.
2 notes
- This deal would make us very very slim at the guard. I think you can deal Thabo or Kirk, preferably Kirk, but when you deal both you lose a lot. If you do deal both I think you have to obtain a quality guard in return.
- Sam Smith says the Suns will only trade for players that can score. He says everyone in the Suns system must be able to score. When they have on player on the floor that struggles with scoring, the whole system breaks down. This same crutch shows up with Toronto too.

I agree with your points....
I think Phx will struggle with its current lineup due to locker room troubles (They have the talent). Giving Diaw more time while having a very quality backup for Nash, and the versatility of Noah and Thomas and Sefalosha could be deadly for them.....
I've seem Amare be unstoppable, but I've also seen other guys (Boozer, Duncan, have their way with him and the Suns on given nights). Noah would be a younger, taller version of Kurt Thomas (at least I think it was Kurt Thomas, I always get him--he's on the Sonics, mixed up with a similar guy on the Kings....)....
It's a risk for both sides, better short term for the Suns in my book, hopefully better long term for the Bulls with our marquee superstar. THink Amare's still years away from his peak too.
I knew I shouldn't have come back here....
b) Without breaking out the calculator to get it exact, this adds 3.4M to a Suns team that will give you players/picks to get under the cap. Immediate problem for cheapskate owner.
c) If the Amare/Wallace front court works, there is a winning window of opportunity = how much longer BBen has left (or is he indeed now a has-Ben). So the guard situation (small and thin) needs fixing immediately. Grey would have to step up to make this an okay trade long term.
Keep Sefo and hope they go for it? Keep Kirk and give them Noc? I don't know, but I looked at how D'Antoni would have to find mins for Barbosa, Hinrich, Sefo, TT, Noah, and Skinner and had a good laugh! (It feels better to laugh than cry). We want to see him play Banks and Strawberry or Tucker some, fa' chrissakes!
Ummm
I'm fine with including Deng

not sure if its a fair trade????
I came up with a counter offer that is just as "fair" as the one you came up with. check it out:
Uh
Uhhh....yeah

This one may be more realistic
Looks good for us, better for Memphis
If we still hand Chandler and wanted to part with him, then we totally good get Stoudemire this year. Chandler's speed would compliment the Suns and his D would help them inside (of course this assume's we still have the old Chandler, it would totally work wtih today's Tyson).
good point about Wallace...
C'mon folks!
I know we're not dealing with reality much here, but........Sheesh!!!!
Reality
- If you are trading for Marion or Amare, say goodbye to deng. period.
- Nobody wants ben wallace with his contract. He has no value except in making salaries match as somewhat of a throw-in.
ESPN Insider Rumor Central
Uh, yeah. That's the core: Nash, Stat, and 'Trix.
I don't know about my Diaw for Noc idea anymore. I still think it answers needs, potentially. But as I said in another thread, Noc can be effective in 25mins. I'm not sure about Diaw. Since GHill's appendectomy, Diaw's been really good with increased PT. Having another young front court talent needing mins wouldn't help the logjam.
