Is anyone against shedding salary cap space for next year? By sending Wallace to LA (for Kwame, Mihm, Vujacic) and Griffin/Joe Smith to Denver (for Najera/Diawara) we could shed all of their salary for next year. Then you let Ben Gordon go and become an unrestricted free agent (release his cap hold), and suddenly the Bulls are about 20 million under the cap. That leaves them with three options.
- Sign a free agent (Brand, Arenas, and Baron Davis should be available)
- Wait til '09 and go after the LeBrons and Wades.
Not to mention trading them would theoretically worsen your team on the court (although that's debatable), allow you to play the rookies and earn a higher draft pick that can also be used in a future trade.
As long as you don't choose option 1 you can probably keep Gordon as well as a restricted free agent. But let's say you wanted to trade for arenas. It's the equivalent of trading Gordon, Joe Smith, and Wallace for Arenas. I'm sure most everyone would sign off on that deal tomorrow.
