Ric Bucher chat question about Bulls

Chris (LA): Ric, why all the fuss about Boston winning the East? Doesn't anyone believe in depth any more? Also, 2 of those 3 superstars were out most of last season so if one goes down, there is no one to come in for them! I still have to say with the additions Chicago has made and the progress of that core, they're the team to beat in the East.

SportsNation Ric Bucher: (3:09 PM ET ) I missed the additions that Chicago made that make them appreciably different from last year. I agree, the idea that Boston vaults to the head of the Eastern class is a little much, but anything is possible in the East. The Miami Heat winning a title two years ago proves that.

and another one
Jim: It seems like Chicago has the piece to go get a post player, so what are they waiting for?

SportsNation Ric Bucher: (3:21 PM ET ) My guess is that Chicago is waiting to see how the Kobe saga unfolds. My sense is that's where he ultimately would like to go, and despite a lot of innuendo otherwise, the Bulls would love to have him if they don't have to give away their entire team to get him.

re: kobe
I get so pumped when i think about kobe in a bulls uni.  But i love our team as it is too.  Im torn.

no respect for
Joakim Noah, The Promise, Gray, and Smith???

I do disagree with the Miami bit. The Finals were on the jokey side, but that was still a good enough team. 06-07 and Cleveland seem to be a better example of "anything is possible in the East." Even that statement is goofy as you can easily count out a lot of teams in both conferences.

agreed on Miami
How is a team with Wade and Shaq considered a fluke?  Shaq was not dominate like early Shaq but he was still biggest bully on court and Wade is one of most dynamic young guards.  Miami also had some vet players who played okay in streches

Ehh
Until miami played the bulls in the playoffs, Miami was one of the top tier teams, and after the bulls crushed miami, miami became the fluke team thats been too old and has been on its last legs.

Aside from that, shaq scared me when it appeared he went back to the year 2000 last season, and d wade i think is over rated. Not that d-wade isnt a great player,  but when he was mentioned in the same breath as jordan and kobe....uhh.

I rather like the ideas being underdogs, cuz its funnier when they beat the so called "top tier" teams.

im trying hard to become the next kirk hinrich, therefore im doing nothing more than being the next chris duhon.

wrong year
The comment was on the Miami team that won the championship.  Last years team was not the same and obviously playing at much lower level

3 question marks were supposed to be the tipper.

just because you don't get it
doesn't mean you have to hitch an asshole wagon on my comments.

It doesn't matter if I get it.
I didn't even read what it said. I simply "skimmed" the comments, saw you talking shit as usual, and decided to hitch an asshole wagon, or whatever you're talking about.
Yes, of course.

"talking shit"
I believe there are message boards where you can satisfy that urge (hint). I was very unseriously clarifying a comment.

I'm sorry I replied
I missed the second and third question marks.

i dont wanna get involved in your pissing contest
but the original comment, which i was replying to, talked briefly about our new guys, then about Miami winning it in 06, and the cavs. Someone replied "ya, what have those guys done to earn any respect", in a sarcastic read, to which i replied the obvious " 'won' a chip" which while not only true, was wry and funny.

and it's that type
of poor reading comprehension that isn't tolerated around here.

That was my question.

I don't get why
people get angry that a writer states their own opinions about the league and everyone who questions the Bulls are hated.  Are the Bulls a young team with a good upside? Yes, does this mean we are going to take the east and win a championship? No, the Bulls have to answer some questions before we crown them the champs?  Is Luol Deng going to become the go to player?  Will Ben Gordon accept the role as the 2nd option?  Will Kirk continue to develop as a PG?  Will Ty, Noah, Noc, Wallace and Joe Smith be enough to keep defenses honest defending the 4 and the 5?  I think the Bulls are a great team and they can win the East,  I don't really care if Simmons, Bucher, Stein, Abbott, or who ever writes for ESPN doesn't think so, they get paid to write their own opinions, they aren't psychics they don't know what is going to happen, and they aren't wrong for questioning the Bulls when there are so many questions yet to be answered.

by Wade.Jones on Aug 3, 2007 3:32 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

It's true!
Like, Luol is ~going~ to have a breakout all-star season, and Tyrus is ~going~ to be nasty off the bench, and BG is ~going~ to improve his defense and handles, and Noc is ~going~ to be healthy, and Big Ben is ~going~ to continue to be a force despite declining numbers... but if a couple of these ~going~-s don't happen, what kind of team are the Bulls? I don't blame the people picking Boston (even though I disagree) or Miami or even Cleveland because the predictions are based on the fact they have players who ~are~ really good, and ~have~ played elite basketball.

(just discovered the squiggly button on the keyboard)

he's got a point
compared to other teams off-season moves, the bulls' newbies aren't anything proven. We all know what to expect from Joe, and Noah needs growth.  Ric is only stating the facts. (i still think he's wrong, though).

The interesting things is...
I've been reading other columnists and bloggers and the "trendy" thing now is to actually pick against Boston and so those guys have all said "Wait, there's nobody but the big 3...The Bulls are going to win".

What my problem with Bucher's reply was that he stated he missed the additions that made the team appreciably better. I think by all accounts, even a rookie Noah is better than an older Malik Allen (which is in essence who he's replacing) and Joe Smith Is equal to if not better than what PJ Brown would've given us this year. That's two additions, the team lost no one of significance and again it's at least possible to predict some further growth of Thomas, Sefalosha, Gordon, and Deng.

All of that hasn't made them better than last year?

by CubFan81 on Aug 4, 2007 3:46 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

meh
The reactions to the Garnett trade, especially the reactions that actually rank the East aren't based on any real outcomes yet. Boston doesn't have any depth, and it's tough to prognosticate that a team with only 3 above average players will have sustained success. Stating that the Celtics will suck because the tired trio of Hakeem, Sir Charles, and Pippen didn't win a championship seems to be lazier and 'trendier' than wariness of a Boston roster that has some seriously sucky players expected to play significant minutes.

Joe Smith and Jo Noah should be good for the Bulls, but Bucher isn't off the mark by saying the Bulls didn't add any players that immediately move the team up a notch.

by hscs on Aug 4, 2007 4:08 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

maybe not Smith/Noah
But I think Thomas / Thabo year 2 should be so much better then yr 1 that just that alone should mean the Bulls seriously improve.  I don't see it out of possibility that both Thomas / Thabo double their mins played and I think most agree that their play can be much better in 07-08 then PJ Brown/Duhon and crew (including them as rookies) who had those mins last year

See? Pax shoulda traded
for Gasol so all the ESPN bozos could heap praise and predict a Finals appearance for us.

Rather feel good by Bulls making Finals in REALITY, thank you.
