OT: Soccer player death

Slightly off topic, but did anyone else see this:

A little scary. It wasn't the same type of cardiomyopathy but they're all essentially similar. Regardless of what I think Eddy Curry should've done, I hope for his sake he's being as careful as he can.

I never really understood why the Bulls were
"forced" to trade Eddy because of his cardiac concerns? I am fully familiar with the sequence of events that led to his trade, but the Bulls could have allowed him to play without genetic testing, just as the Knicks are doing. Was the concern that the franchise shouldn't invest a great deal of money in a player who might drop dead at any moment, thereby leaving a sudden hole in the roster? That makes some sense to me. Was Paxson concerned that the health issue would be a distraction? That also makes some sense. Was the heart condition just a pretext for trading a player that management felt would never fulfill his potential in Chicago? Also a defensible position.

well in Pax's conscience he felt 'forced'
I'm sure Reinsdorf had some say in it too.

This is all specualation (and old one at that), but I don't believe in any alterior motives, like masking some underlying feeling that he wasn't worth the money healthy either. They couldn't sign Eddy because their doctors (others had a different diagnosis) thought his heart was a risk.

The fact remains that Eddy's contract is uninsured, and only the Knicks were willing to accept that. No matter how gaudy his PPG numbers become, he likely will never get traded because of it.
