OT: Nothing but nets

I don't want to make a political statement or anything, but I did come across the story about the Bulls' participation in Luol Deng's efforts to raise money for nets to protect people (mostly children) from insect bites that spread malaria.

In case anyone here wanted to make a donation, here is the link:  http://www.nothingbutnets.net/chicagobulls

I don't see how this is political.
Isn't saving human lives bi-partisan? (I understand your disclaimer though.)
Yes, of course.

I worked at the UN this summer
and I met and chatted with Sam Perkins (who was/is the NBA's ambassador to the program), and the womn in charge (who's name im blanking on). Apart from droppoing names, or accepting Bulls press releases at face value; they do really good work, and the improvement the nets make for the cost and effort is quite astoudnding versus pouring money into research for drugs for sexier disases a la Diabetes, Aids, or cancer. Not that I'm advocating divestment in those diseases, rather, I'm making a claim of support for the nothing but nets program. I would delete and re-write this, but I've not paid attention to enough of class to write this.

And I'm pissed it was Perkins instead of deng; but i guess he did have to make it to game 5.

Not to knock the charity, but
Wouldn't DDT work better?  There have a been a ton of studies that say that DDT would be worth its severely overstated risk, and the official policy of the WHO is pro-DDT spraying:
WHO Statement

That said, anything to prevent the spread of this disease is a goal well-worth pursuing.

Get that out of Tyrus' House!!!!

you need a disclaimer
like: "WHO Statement posted on a seriously slanted think tank website."

Anyway, the WHO is backing the nets.
