Around SBN: Bracketology 2012: Duke Finally Steps Up To The No. 1 Line

Inky Excerpt Almost Already Dated

SLAM ONLINE posted an excerpt of an Eddy Curry profile in their print edition. It's all puff, and Curry seems surprisingly confident.

"I feel like Dwight Howard is a great player, but past him and Shaq, it's me," he says, bent over a full plate of chicken alfredo. "Even if you look statistically, I was averaging more than any big man in the East."

His eyes drift into his plate for two seconds. Then suddenly he looks up, sits erect and proclaims: "I feel like I'm the dominant big man in the East."

Unfortunately it's only an excerpt; you'll have to buy a copy of SLAM to find out if Eddy had seconds. He was right about averaging more points than other Eastern bigs (Jermaine O'Neal was .1 PPG from Curry's 19.5 in 06-07), although Zach Randolph and Kevin Garnett are sure to blow away whatever Eddy does next season. They actually do other things besides score too.

I miss Eddy Curry
If Tyrus and Noah don't pan out, we would be the laughing stock of the NBA. Well, at least the Isiah Thomas fan club. I miss the 2004-05 Chicago Bulls. That team would beat the present team 4-1 in a best of 7 series.

if Thomas and Noah
develop heart conditions, then you can pooh-pooh the trade.

Just be sure
to keep them away from the chicken alfredo.

Eddy
Must still be shaken up from the robbery.

you know what?
I forgot about Bosh. I was way too excited about Eddy eating during the interview. He scored a lot more than Curry last season.

by hscs on Aug 21, 2007 10:15 AM CDT up reply actions

So what was he averaging more of?
Eddy should take it as a hint that the USA team wants nothing to do with him. (admittedly, I don't know if they contacted him or not-I'm just assuming)
Yes, of course.

"the USA team wants nothing..."
"...to do with him"

...uhhh I think the same can be said for about 400 other players in the league too  :-)

by ScottieCartwright on Aug 22, 2007 7:59 AM CDT up reply actions

Or 300 million people.
Point is, he said he thinks he's THE dominant big man in a conference who is just coming into his prime. And he's not even asked to be part of the "tryouts". I don't see the other 400 (or 300 million) making those same comments.
Yes, of course.

Curry may have refused an invite
Shane Battier, Nick Collison, Luke Ridnour, Adam Morrison, and J.J. Reddick have all tried out for the team in the past few years. Some of those guys really suck, and it's not always news when players turn down a chance to play.

by hscs on Aug 22, 2007 9:20 AM CDT up reply actions

exactly, I agree
nobody can definitely say that they want nothing to do with him.

If he played HALF of the defense that Tyson does, I'm sure he'd be the first person they would've wanted.

They already got "Curry-lite" with Howard...no need for the full version.

by ScottieCartwright on Aug 22, 2007 11:14 AM CDT up reply actions

I wouldn't describe Howard as Curry-lite
He rebounds, blocks shots, and his AST-r is off the charts compared to Eddy's.

Team USA invites just about anyone to tryout (Colangelo/Coach K rhetoric aside). A lot of players say no like Kevin Garnett. Eddy has been busy turning down medical tests, becoming a restricted free agent, getting in and out of shape, and being a victim of crime the past few summers. I'm not making light of his lesser moments, but he really has had some busy offseasons.

by hscs on Aug 22, 2007 1:04 PM CDT up reply actions

curry-lite
as in offense.  That was my point though, Howard is a part of the team because he does more than one thing, unlinke Eddy.

Who knows, maybe 2012 Curry will be on the team  :-)

anyone read the espn article on the oak-man?
You mentioned your friend Eddy Curry. How can you help him, specifically?

I played in Chicago with him. Eddy will listen to me. I worked with him after practice. I'll tell him this: "You got to get in shape, No. 1. You can't play basketball if you're not in shape. You're not in shape to do what you should for 82 games." He wasn't in shape all of last year. Ain't nobody telling him that. I'm not a friend. I'm going to speak my mind.

FOR THE RECORD, I'D WATCH THAT REALITY TV SHOW...
