Summer League Game 3: Heat Bulls Live Game Thread

[From the Diaries. And don't call me Matty. -Matt]

Sorry if I'm stealing you thunder Matty, I just wanna make sure those of us who do not have the pleasure of having Hi-Speed DO have the pleasure of reading vague and slightly infuriating comments such as

"Wow look at tyrus"

"Gee, these commentators just said something really funny"

or

"OMG! Tyrus got hurt"

10-5 Bulls

Nice rebound
and putback by Gray.

I like how the announcers
are predicting Marty Vicious' demise because of Aaron Gray's play.
I'm thrilled, now I can get a jersey with my name on the back!

They keep talking about
Bulls fans being down on Andre Barret. I have never heard that before. I always thought he was a decent 15th man.
I'm thrilled, now I can get a jersey with my name on the back!

I wondered
where they got that too. They said earlier that Chicago fans wanted Curry to be better than Barrett.

I'm down on Barrett
hogging the ball and sucking in summer league.

He does hog it, doesn't he?
not a good thing for a pg.

Bullish on the refs, and their anointed "5 hour quarter."

Everyone in the east got better
except the bulls? What did Cleveland, Miami add that I missed?

by Blacknight23 on Jul 11, 2007 6:43 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

or Detroit
In fact, who besides the bottom feeders (Boston, ATL, Knicks, Cats) made SIGNIFICANT improvements? A case can be made for the Magic amongst the playoff teams, but other than them, nobody improved.

At lease Chicago didn't draft a crack addict like the Nets...they got a crack dealer instead! :-)

by DarthSidius on Jul 11, 2007 6:55 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Favorite thing I've seen this off-season
was an early line on the 2008 championship that had Miami as the best odds out of the east.  After last season, even with a healthy Wade, I don't see how anyone can expect that out of them!  (Sorry, can't find the link - it was a while ago)

Aaron Gray is losing weight.
http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/gray_interview_070710.html

He's down to 10.5% body fat from the end of the season when he measured at 16%. He wants to be 8% or lower by the beginning of the season. Which, in three months, shouldn't be too hard if he's dedicated.

Yes, of course.

I thought the Bulls may have drafted Jim Halpert from "The Office" in the 2nd round.

by cliff levingston on Jul 11, 2007 9:06 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Doesn't look like Tyrus played a very
efficient offensive game, though he rebounded well and had five blocked shots.

Thabo and Gray had nice stat lines.

by 1958ChiTown on Jul 11, 2007 9:18 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Looks like
Gray had a decent game. He led the team with 15 points and made 5 of 6 free throws. He did have 5 fouls tho.

Skiles seemed happy with him
in Today's Tribune article.  It looks like KC got to go to Orlando for the games.

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls/cs-070711bullsbits,1,5204101.story?c oll=cs-bulls-headlines

He has a big body and isn't afraid to use it," coach Scott Skiles said.

Skiles is watching league play courtside as assistant Jim Boylan runs the team.

"I think Gray's movements can be deceptive," Skiles said. "He can appear to be slow. But he is covering ground. He has a chance because he has legit size and he plays like a big man. He likes to use his size and rebound. He has made good decisions with the ball

by KT on Jul 12, 2007 8:24 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Thanks KT.
I'm hoping Aaron will be a good player for them. Sport NIte interviewed him last night and he seems so excited to be playing. He loves that Coach Skiles is there to watch and Mr. Paxson too. This was really cute, he said that TT and Thabo had taken them under their wings and helped them so they didn't get yelled at so much. LOL!

by sue369 on Jul 12, 2007 10:37 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

No
I just meant his interview was cute. KT posted it below and see what he says about TT and Thabo and calls Pax Mr. Paxson. You can see how excited he is to be a Bull.

by sue369 on Jul 12, 2007 1:22 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nope!
But, he should get out of the house (MarriedHusband 101), and lift some weights at the gym.  Kirk, please don't come back again next season failing down to the ground every time Billips bumped him in the playoffs.

Oops!

It's cute how Aaron calls Pax Mr. Paxson.  I wonder how many of the other players call him "Mr."

I thought
the whole interview was cute. You can sense his excitement on being a Bull.

the live stream is still down. Maybe they will have it fixed by the Bulls game.

In other summer league news, Yi has played like
dog crap since hitting the game winner a few nights ago.

He has been very inconsistent thus far.

Of course, it is only summer league.

by 1958ChiTown on Jul 12, 2007 3:39 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Looking a
little sloppy today. Gray had a shot he should have made.

by sue369 on Jul 12, 2007 4:13 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

That's one of the knocks on Gray,
he doesn't trust his athleticism and just throws it up inside instead of makign the shot.

by Scotter on Jul 12, 2007 4:33 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

TT and Barrett
are no goes today. Wonder why?

by sue369 on Jul 12, 2007 4:17 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

It's just their day off probably, but
it also takes two guys who dominate the ball out of the lineup.  Which creates opportunities for other players like Aaron Gray and JamesOn Curry to create shots.

by Scotter on Jul 12, 2007 4:30 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

These guys
don't think TT will be back tomorrow either.

by sue369 on Jul 12, 2007 4:36 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Injury?
Or has he simply already gotten his alloted minutes?

by 1958ChiTown on Jul 12, 2007 4:38 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

They implied
the injury from Monday. But who knows if they know for sure.

a lot of minutes.

by bu11s on Jul 12, 2007 4:28 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

That's good to hear
I'm happy for both Ty and Thabo to be having a good summer league.

Yep
Thabo hit the jumper at the buzzer and they hadn't changed the score when I posted that.

Tyrus
Why isn't Tyrus playing?

by San Diego Bulls on Jul 12, 2007 4:53 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

The announcers
implied he it might be from his injury from Monday but they said Skiles just brought TT and Joakim in. He looked fine walking across the floor. Who knows?

by sue369 on Jul 12, 2007 5:00 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nocioni is 0-6 with 9 TO
since replacing Tyrus, but he has flopped 5 times and drawn one charge.

One plus
for Gray is he can make free throws.

by sue369 on Jul 12, 2007 5:22 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

It's obvious from
your negative remarks on him that you don't care for him. I will give him a chance just like the other two rookies.

by sue369 on Jul 12, 2007 5:33 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not down on him.
I'm just trying to be objective observer about what he can and can't do.  And not being able to bend his knees has really stood out in summer league, and especially today.  Gray being stiff and missing easy inside shots are things I've observed from summer league and are included in almost every scouting report of him.  That doesn't mean he won't eventually be an effective backup center, but he has a long way to in terms of both flexibility and basketball skills.

by Scotter on Jul 12, 2007 5:45 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Do you mean
he doesn't bend his knees when he shoots free throws? My husband and I just watched him shoot the last free throws and he bent his knees when he shot them. I'm not saying he does all the time but he did then.

by sue369 on Jul 12, 2007 5:49 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I was talking about
bending his knees in his defensive stance and bending his knees when he gets the ball in the post.  He consistently plays too high, which hurts his ability to move laterally on defense and to make quick post moves.  It's one of the reasons he gets his shot blocked close to the basket.

by Scotter on Jul 13, 2007 10:19 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I see he's
going to a big men's camp after the summer league so maybe they will address that and work with him.

by sue369 on Jul 13, 2007 10:38 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Damn
Maybe Tyrus means more to THIS team than we think.
Remember a healthy Nocioni, the one you loved.

by Option27 on Jul 12, 2007 5:42 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I have no
doubt that is true. They may have won today if he had played. Wonder if he will play tomorrow?
