Knicks-Blazers trade
I know everyone here hates the pick. But unless I am not getting something here, portland is the one that got screwed over with this trade. Steve Franchise played horrible basketball and is a complete mess. Channing Frye got worse last year and is a poor mans aldridge next year.
Aside from Randolph's jailblazer/strip club reputation, he has an inside outside game, so he doesnt completely overlap with curry. Plus he can actually rebound. Still no intimidating shot blocking presence for the knicks, but now they have freakin dan dickau. Who the hell doesnt want a guy like dan dickau. He will make page six at least once.
The only reason I see portland would make this move is because francis' huge contract expires right about the time that they will start extending their young core's contracts (Particularly roy's and aldridge). Meanwhile the knicks will be back in cap hell but no one really cares about the salary cap in nyc. Couldn't the blazers have gotten a better deal for Randolph (at least an extra pick). I guess the bulls had their chance to get randolph but didnt want him.

In NYkers eyes
1 - Starbury
2 - Jamal Crawford (Thanks Isiah!)
3 - Jefferies
4 - Z-BO (D-Lee off of bench
5 - Curry (Thanks Isiah!)
I think that gives them some versatility with big men. Granted they still can't play defense, Z-BO is a headcase, and Curry is looking more like Homer Simpson in the episode where he ballooned himself to over 300 pounds so he could collect disability. So maybe it isn't that great for NY and Portland robbed them blind, but one should be wary of two GREAT post players playing for the same team.
P.S. All of what I just said can be made null and void by the genius that is Isiah!

Francis will apparently be bought out

which is obvious
which brings me to a side point....
I don't mind that the NBA has a soft salary cap (ts better than baseball), but if you buy out a player, it should be some sort of penalty to the team....maybe 1/2 on salary cap value. It's just ridicoulous that they get a player to make the trade work then buy him out...seems ugly

What I don't get is...
The "Franchise" makes teams better AFTER he leaves them, just check the records. He's always disgruntled and gets paid waaaay too much. Frye I'm indifferent about.
You mean to tell me the Bulls didn't offer the 9th pick, a sign and trade of PJ Brown, and maybe even their choice 2009 2nd round pick. Heck, I would've even tossed in the Bulls 1st rounder next year. Since they don't need to stockpile young talent anymore. Then the Blazers take Law at 9 and have a lineup of Law, Roy, Aldridge, Outlaw, and Oden all for the next decade if they want.

This was my favorite part of the night
It was like Dolan put Isiah in 'time out' for a year, and today was like 'ok, you can have some money again'. And immediately he takes on a contract like Randolphs.
Contracts aside, this makes little sense after all the sunshine he's been blowing up Knick fan's asses over how great Eddy Curry is. He said how important it was to get a big man to complement Curry and in Randolph he got one that duplicated him. On offense they do similar things (Randolph at least has some range which may help space the floor) and they're both terrible defensively.
And Portland....
Not as much for the team, but for their fans who laughed off the idea that the team wanted to dump Randolph and his overpaid contract for anything. This was a complete salary dump, that's all he was worth.
The Bulls may have been into the action if they had the right contracts. But I think the fact that the Knicks wanted him means we should be happy he's away.

It is an admittance
Who has the most potential on the Knicks? David Lee. Who is the most likely to see his time cut with Zach there? David Lee. Who may now try and getout of NY when he gets to be a restricted free agent? David Lee.
Geesh, Zeke, another bad contract on the books.

Has anyone thought about Randolph living in NYC?
What's going to happen to this guy in freakin' New York City? :)
Not to mention from a basketball standpoint, the Knicks found a way to get another overpaid, shoot-first, no-D "star."
I'm going to sit back and enjoy this one.

personally
They prolong their cap limitations beyond a decade and can only hope to sign players to the MLE. This team, as currently configured, really has no hope of ever competing for anything above a 6th-7th seed even in a weak Eastern Conference. They have two big men with onerous contracts that do NOTHING besides score on the low block and rebound. I mean, these guys don't run well, don't handle well, don't pass, don't block shots, don't man defend, don't zone defend, don't generate steals, don't tip passes, don't move in offensive sets ... they only score on the low block and rebound ... oh, and socialize and/or eat.
Where are the passers on this team? Name one? And how do all of their driving guards, who are also shitty defenders, take to the rack w/ two big fat-asses littering the lane?
I think the winner here is definitely Portland. They reduce their cap implications considerably, drop a player that negatively affected team chemistry, add a guard that has had issues but certainly raises the talent level at a position of need and they add a low cost big man to bring off of the bench. This team is a SF away from being competitive tomorrow.
As for the Knicks, they just shat on Lee's potential, added 60 million to the next four years of their cap, duplicated a player in the frontcourt, re-deluded a fan base inexplicably (how do they keep buying this garbage), somehow subtracted from their team chemistry while trading away Steve Francis and guaranteed Isiah will be the coach at the end of next season.
I don't know how that is good for the Knicks. Zach's 20-10, in this situation, equates to the calories in a twinkie.

I can't wait
Also, even if Randolph magically improved his defense and passing, I still wouldn't like this trade from the Knicks' perspective. Now they're pretty much forced to bury their best player (David Lee) on the bench or play him or Randolph way, WAY out of position at the 3.

stephen a said NYK won
Here's my take
Curry and randolph play the exact same positio...cept zbo is left handed which will help some. That being said, the best part is they dropped francis. New York obv got the ebst talent, but he doesn't fit the team.
As for portland, it was a salary dump, but there had to have been better offers out there than channing fry; why not try to wrangle a first rounder or 2 out of NYK
Both teams lose; blazers slightly less

heh
I love this reaction from Posting and Toasting:
Thomas: We are a team that pounds the ball inside. We win by going to the foul line and outscoring teams in the paint and we are a big power team. Those two guys on the block will be tough to handle and will have the ball in their hands a lot.
Translation: "I don't know how the fuck this is gonna work either."
