Sonics-Bulls-Blazers

Apparently Portland wasn't too impressed with Oden's workout and along with his injury issues might drop him to number 2. If Durant has an impressive workout with both the Blazers and the Sonics, this might prompt the Seattle to trade up to number 1 to draft Durant. They'll probably offer Lewis as well and Portland would want to rid themselves of Randolph. The Sonics, however, might not want to take on Randolph's contract. They still are in turmoil financially and if Durant doesn't save the franchise then it would be easier to sell it without Randolph.

This is where the Bulls can come in and offer Seattle PJ Brown, Noce, and Duhon for Randolph. This case Chicago keep their number 9 where we can draft a Corey Brewer (they might have to trade up for him) who might be able to replace either Deng or Gordon when it come time to sign them for a contract next year.

The big winner in this transaction will be Portland with a possible frontline of Oden, Aldridge and Lewis. Seattle will get their marketable superstar and Chicago will get help in the post and still be able to retain our draft pick where we can pick Brewer or the best player available. Corey Brewer is of interest because he can play both SF and SG which also gives us flexibility in deciding which of "the core" to retain next year.

Hmm
why would either one want to trade the pick?  Even if there are miinor concerns about some injury, neither team is going to go buckwild about making sure they get durant instead of oden and start trading pieces or whatever.  I am sure seattle would love to have oden, It's been a long time since they drafted a center who will actually become a good starter.

Hmm
Sounds like posturing one week before.  Portland would love Lewis, and they are trying to maximize the #1 pick.  Don't be fooled Portland will pick Oden #1.

Seattle
is moving and won't want to add payroll and might in my opinion be poen to dumping Ray Allen for a younger and near equal talent. Such as the Allen-BG7-Kobe and parts trade I suggested in the Kobe thread on the main page. Also I can't see them trading Rashard Lewis essently for cap space and Duhon. I also think given their problems at the 5, that settling for Oden would not be a bad thing.

I don't need facts to back this up
But this seems too far fetched to even think about.

Very Doubtful.

Lewis' tryouts
If Lewis really just flat-out impresses Seattle with superstar scoring potential, it would be hard to resist just standing pat and getting whoever Portland doesn't pick. If the Blazers are really sold on Oden, they might send out feelers that they are "not really impressed with him and might draft Lewis" just to get a better deal. Seattle might want to make sure they get Durant so they have to trade up. I think Durant will be more marketable than Oden because of his scoring prowess just like how Kobe is more marketable than Yao. That alone might be a factor in deciding who is number 1 and number 2.

All comments above make good points
I would only add that, in your trade scenarios, Rashard Lewis, Noce, and PJ are all currently free-agents.  It is possible for a team to use a "sign-and-trade" strategy but as free agents none of these 3 are obligated to agree* to a deal. They could just hit the free agent market.

Also, I sincerely doubt the Sonics are eager to pick up Duhon.  If they are, a quick search of his name in this web-site would probably disabuse them of that notion.

* I could be wrong about Noce, is he restricted?

by Bayern Munich on Jun 21, 2007 11:44 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

from a money standpoint
the best thing for Noc to do is to accept a sign and trade deal anywhere Pax wants to send him because it will probably be a 1 year/6-8 Mil deal. He plays out the deal and if he has a good deal his contract floor would be a long term MLE deal like Radmonvic, Pryz, and Nazr signed last summer.

I meant
good year not good deal.

by LD9 on Jun 21, 2007 12:25 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

He's not going to take a 1 year deal.
NBA players don't pass up longterm security.  Someone's going to give him the MLE this year. He doesn't have to wait a year for it.  Paxson wil just have to decide whether to match it.

by Scotter on Jun 21, 2007 12:36 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

it depends

and you both raise good issues.  On the one hand, I have to think Noce has impressed enough people that some team would be willing to burn a mid-level exemption on him.  In that case, he would probably want to take that and get a multi-year deal.

At the same time, some of the names being thrown around (Kobe, KG, even Randolph) have pretty huge salaries.  If the Bulls want to swing a trade, they're going to have to at least get close to those big salaries with their return package, to be CBA-compliant.  It wouldn't surprise me if either PJ or Noce was offered a ridiculously large 1-year deal in order to serve as ballast for a trade for some other team's big-$ guy.

But I don't forsee, as this diarist proposed, all 3 of these guys being part of sign-and-trade deals.

Coming off the foot injury
I doubt anybody gives him more than a 3 year deal. He is going to need surgery this summer.

We Should Not Be Thinking About Getting
Zach "The Police Blotter" Randolph!  Why are we even considering adding a pile of crap like Randolph to hard-working, team oriented, no-nonsense  Bulls team.   It just wont work guys.  We have been drafting a certain type of player for a reason the last few drafts.  Getting Randolph makes no sense other than the fact he can play in the post.  Ok thats it, other than that IT DOESN'T WORK!!!!        Sorry had to post like this, but it has been bothering me that people actually would want this bum.  Stop disregarding all of his shortcomings, (especially his big contract) People get real, he is NOT A GOOD FIT FOR THIS TEAM.

Bad comment.
Not the same at all. Shame on you for analogizing ranting on bad behavior with a racist/sexist ass.
Yes, of course.

not if you assume
anyone who rants about a big, bad, black guy isn't a racist/sexist ass.

"isn't a racist/sexist ass"
I'm not sure that makes sense, but I'm still in my corner. It probably should have been "is."

by Paxson Jackson on Jun 21, 2007 8:13 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

What the hell
This has nothing to do with ranting about a big, bad, black guy.  You must think the same way Imus does if you think I'm being racist.  I simply do not want a bum on our team.  His track record is awful, he doesn't work hard at all and has a huge contract.  This does not fit into the bulls scheme IMHO.  You see things in a different light Paxson Jackson, I am speaking in the strict sense that he has no business on this team.

Let me ask you a question other than this dude can play in the post, give me one good reason why the bulls would want this BUM!!

by Bulls Mouthpiece on Jun 21, 2007 8:17 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

oh please
You don't know what you're talking about, and Randolph is by all accounts a hard worker. There are plenty of basketball reasons why Randolph is good and bad for the Bulls. I don't need or want to read preachings from your or anyones' soapbox.

by Paxson Jackson on Jun 22, 2007 7:13 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Just One
You still haven't given me one reason the Bulls should get this guy.  Hard worker are you sure?  Isn't he a little overweight?  If there are PLENTY OF BASKETBALL REASONS, then let me in on them.  Maybe you haven't answered because I didn't ask in the form of a question, so here you go.

What does this guy bring to the table, besides being able to post?

Ohh I almost forgot, wasn't this the guy that was found missing after his cousins girlfriend died?  I heard something like he took off three games to tend to the matter, and then later was arrested in Indiana at a strip club after the Trailblazers had no idea where he was.   Please someone tell me if this is true, because if it is he does not belong on this team.

by Bulls Mouthpiece on Jun 22, 2007 11:25 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

there's a Randolph post
still on the front page for starters. Randolph was 16th in PER last season. He would immediately be the best player on the team. I really don't feel like repeating my own or other comments on Randolph's play, so feel free to look around.

It doesn't surprise me that of all the trouble Zach Randolph has gotten himself in, you're so uninformed that a visit to strip club (oh my! how awful!) tops your list.

by Paxson Jackson on Jun 22, 2007 11:52 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

ohh my
Its the fact that Randolph was supposed to be mourning a loss in his girlfriends cousins, brothers, friends dog and that the trailblazers thought he was somewhere else, when he in fact wasn't.  That seems like a real mature person, going to a strip club, getting arrested, when he is supposed to be with the team during the season.  Thats not normal Bull behavior and don't try and act like its not a big deal.  This shows his true character and how it won't fit in Paxsons culture.

And no he wouldn't be the best player on this team.  He got 16 per for a terrible lottery team how is that impressive?  How many rebounds did he get?  Once again you haven't given me one reason how he would fit this team.  Ohh and I don't feel like searching for your reasons, so why don't you just give me one or two of the plenty that you supposedly have.

people go to
strip clubs during their lunch break. I suggest you don't sweat it (or do). Fresh Randolph discussion is all over the blog, and the basketball stuff is far more important - so check it out.

by Paxson Jackson on Jun 22, 2007 1:50 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

You should really get your facts straight
He did not get arrested. There was a report the he forgot to pay his tab at a strip club. The manager said, "He just forgot,... He'll pay it next time."

He would def be the best player on this team. A proven scorer that can rebound and draw double teams constantly. And he doesn't need to be a defensive stopper having ben Wallace next to him. He was the 16th in per, in the west. He was one of only  a handfull of players in the league to average 20-10.

Thank you.
Why does anyone want "PacMan" of the NBA? They could just as easily go to a local prison see who's big and can shoot, besiege the judge to parole them and make a ludicrously high offer for their service. O.K. bad example it's not fair to compare a prisoner to Randolph I mean some of those guys are innocent.
