Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Our Line-Up

Now if it is one thing Skiles has taught me this year, it is simply do not question his decision making. I feel every time I do, he proves me wrong. I love having PJ in the game for his experience. However, I feel Thomas's time is now. Let him start and mix it up. Thomas has a demeanor and swagger about him that I don't think too many other Bulls players give off right now. Throw that in with recently being named to the all rookie team and a great performance in game two. The first game, yes it was a rough one. All rookies have them. We are down right now and lets be honest, the Pistons look fantastic. We need an answer and it has to be a loud one. Lets get some attitude and toughness out there! ASAP! And is where is Noc?

Noc is too busy
bricking 3-pointers to actual provide some of the "hustle" that he's known for.
If there are problems in this world that jumping can solve, Tyrus Thomas will solve them. (Truehoop)

PJ has really sucked in this series.
I agree, you have to live and die with Ty. I would like to see Tyrus on Prince.

Hinrich on Billups
Deng on Rip
Tyrus on Prince
Nocioni on Wallace
Wallace on Webber

Pain and death are part of life. To reject them is to reject life itself.

Um...
A point guard, 2 small forwards, a power forward and a center?
I'm not at all sure about this lineup. Rip would get anything he wanted. The Bulls can't "go big" like this because they AREN'T big.
Hinrich on Billups is a size mismatch, Deng on Rip a speed mismatch, Noc on Wallace another size mismatch. Only Ty on Prince (assuming Prince doesn't get him to bite on fakes) and Wallace on Webber seem palatable.

Tyrus
I wish we could fast forward two years and see a developed tyrus play.  Until then we will have to put upwith lots of sequences like this

dunk....goaltend...illegal screen...dunk....blocked shot...1/2 FT

not too bad but still has long ways to go.  He has to be the league leader thogh in goaltends per 48 or whatever.  Once his body develops more and he is able to absorb contact better he will be a great finisher.  Time machine aanyone?

With the blocked shot . . .
Usually ending up in the 10th row, of course.

Flashback
I don't know if anybody remembers this but when Tayshaun was a rookie, he started 5 games and averaged 3pts/1reb/<1ast in the regular season and then took off in the playoffs, going for 9/4/2.  The averages don't begin to tell the story of how big his impact on the Pistons was that postseason (went for 20 in OT in a big win over the Sixers).

I bring this up because I am hanging on to the hope that Tyrus accelerates his growth process over the rest of these playoffs.  It's not unheard of for rookies to emerge when the lights are the brightest.  He's obviously got tons of refinement to do to his game, but over a 5/7 game stretch, players can sometimes compensate for their deficiencies with their strengths.

Stars leap when they see an opportunity and given how much PJ is struggling, I would love to see Tyrus seize the opportunity and eliminate all doubts about who the Bulls' starting PF will be for the next 15 years.

Far-fetched maybe, but not without precedence.  Just ask Tayshaun.

I was actually encouraged
to see that someone had reminded Tyrus how to set a pick towards the end of game two.

I think Knowledge32 is actually Tyrus Thomas...
...and he's just lobbying the blog-o-sphere to get more playing time.

It's dead giveaway when he says "Our lineup" and "We are down right now..." An outsider wouldn't say things, so I knew it was someone with the Bulls. Then, when he started advocating Thomas for more PT, I knew it had to be him.

Although... the talk of Thomas in 3rd person is a little worrisome to my theory. Hmmm... Maybe it's Skiles trying to bounce ideas off of the Blog-A-Bull community in a sort of "Well, if you think you're better than me, what would you do?" sort of thing.

I dunno. I'll have to investigate further. But like I said, from the "our's" and "we's" in the diary, I'm convinced we have an actual member of the Bulls on here! Whoohoo!

Hahaha!!!
That was a pretty good comment. I only use the terminology, like most Chicago Sports fans, because I love our team and want them to be successful. I can assure you I am not on the Bulls...or am I ??????

I hate to say this but I would
like to see the Bulls trade Nocioni for Cambey this summer. If Denver would jump on that who knows. I know Denver may have to trade him because of the luxury cap?

then
We'd have two aging centers. How old is camby 32?

by Sambossanova on May 9, 2007 3:16 PM CDT up reply actions

33 going on 60
Camby has never played a full season.  I don't think that situation will improve as he approaches his mid-thirties.  He would have been a good piece to have this season (Paxson offered PJ for Camby) but it doesn't make sense to sign him to any kind of contract at this point.

Carter's an asshole, but he can score
And he could be a FA.  Gives us a player who can just get points when you need them, and has a decent post game.  Can distribute, but defense is not good.  I still like it because it doesn't cost us anything.  He, BG and Deng could go for 65-70 every night, might be the best three in the league scoring-wise.

Camby's weak and can't play center against bigger guys, that's why they have Nene.  If he can't score with his back to the basket, we shouldn't waste time looking into him.

Carter
barely plays defense and is afraid of contact.  I could not stand watching him pull up for fade away threes.  It is like watch a less talented kobe bryant on offense.  What a waste of talent.

by Sambossanova on May 10, 2007 12:57 AM CDT up reply actions

Besides
With Gordon-Deng-Carter, we'd have 3 people for 2 position. Would Carter be our starting PF? Would Gordon play point?

I'm not a fan.

Like the signature
But I think he has changed his game somewhat for the Nets, passing and rebounding more.  Defense might be just a lack of effort.  Also, Carter can handle well enough to be a point forward, IMHO.

Camby has more value
than Nocioni, luxury tax or not.
I'm looking for a home.
