Keys to Game 5

Ladies and Gentlemen, GAME 5 is upon us! What is it going to take to win tonight at the palace (lower case obv.)? We have been blown out twice, the crowd is going to be crazy, and we are facing elimination.

I think it will take a couple of things:

  1. Intensity, Intensity, Intensity. Match the Pistons right out of the gate. I would not mind seeing full court man to man press on Billups right away.
  2. Attack the Basket. We crushed them on free throws and if we get to line it will slow down their momentum. Stay aggressive.
  3. "Unknown Soldier"- Who is going to step up for us and have a huge game? Ben Gordon or Noc, I am looking in your direction. It has to happen tonight.
  4. Get back to Bulls Basketball. Playing hard, getting lose balls, and having some pride on defense.
  5. Leave it all out on the floor, because as it goes without saying, there is no tomorrow!

thanks,
but I really don't know that much about basketball, and I enjoy reading other posits on the game to fill in all my blanks. Mr. Knowledge might be better off having a similar attitude instead of typing "attitude."

Is that right?
I really don't have a sense of whether he knows much about basketball or not.  He is certainly good at insulting other people and linking to obscure youtube clips.

But is he a guru or a misfit?  I couldn't tell you.

I choose to believe.

Good guys get good guy awards but no rings
I have watched every single game this year and every time they blow a game they could wim my ulcer gets larger.  My take on losing game three is this.  When we had that 19+ lead in the second half and the bulls started letting the pistons back in it with poor D as well as poor shot selections or rushed shots skiles did not call a time out.  Remember when we played miami and we started coming back against them riley called a Time out.  We cant let these guys play through it because they are kids.  and we dont do that during the playoffs. because we dont have a chauncey to step up and do all the right things.
Second of all i saw alot of smiling and laughing on the bulls bench even when being blown out.  What the F%%%.  In game four when that scrub flip murray dunked on hinrich and stood over him where was the bulls guts.  All the bulls players walked away and hinrich was left protecting his privates.  Big ben as well as pj are supposed to be guys with alot of heart, toughnes and attitude(my favaorite being pj in the new york series a long time ago) but even though they contribute they are not showing all of that in this series.  But i will take tyrus who shows his bull horns all the time after receiving a hard foul(well atleast he walks by and bumps him).

So the keys
Lets make it a hard physical game.
If you get a lead keep it.
48 minutes of bulls defense.
Let the nice guys stay home and stick it to the pistons like men.

those are great points that I forgot about. Where is the timeout Skiles? And where is the attitude Bulls?

by Knowledge32 on May 15, 2007 12:24 PM CDT up reply actions

Cuz that timeout....
...apparently worked for Riley and kept the Bulls from getting back in it and winning whichever game you're talking about.

by tyger1147 on May 15, 2007 12:30 PM CDT up reply actions

doesn't matter
it cuts the momentum. No matter what argument you have, it stops the momentum and the crowd. Skiles should use it more, but there are a lot of coaches that won't do it.

by Knowledge32 on May 15, 2007 12:50 PM CDT up reply actions

A couple of times in the series
the Heat went on a run and Skiles chose not to call a timeout, with the Bulls playing through the slump quite nicely.  Maybe he hoped they'd be able to do the same.  Who really knows?  It's kind of like the idea of letting people play through fouls - if it works, the coach is a genious, but if not he's an idiot.  Lots easier to make those kind of judgments after the fact.

To win
  • Skiles must govern a meritocracy tonight.  Thomas should have twice as many minutes as Brown.  Sefolosha should have as many or more than Duhon.
  • NO FOUL TROUBLE.  The Pistons will be flopping all over BG and Hinrich.  You just watch.  In turn, those two will have to play really smart, especially after a Pistons steal or during a fastbreak.
  • Points in the paint.  If BG can get one of those 3rd/4th quarters where he gets fouled every time he drives to the basket, their chances are definitely above zero for this game.
  • They need to hit shots.  Open shots have to fall, which they haven't at Detroit this series.
____
* I would mention that they need to grab the long rebounds too, but I really don't think they can do it against this team.

I predict
that the Chicago Bulls will play the Detroit Pistons in a basketball game tonight.  And I'm not just shooting off some half-baked theory -- I'll be specific.  I predict they will play in Detroit and the game will start sometime after 8 pm ET.
Its easy -- just win the next game.

by preverbal on May 15, 2007 2:58 PM CDT up reply actions

If behind, stay close
Obviously would love for them to outscore the Pistons 30-2 in the first quarter, but at the very least, Bulls cannot come out flat again tonight.  If they're down >7 after the first quarter, I think it's over.  They're not mentally strong enough right now to play catch-up with the Pistons.

by paxson43 on May 15, 2007 3:44 PM CDT reply actions

True story
They must get up on the Pistons and stay on top of them, Pistons have too much firepower and cannot be allowed to get ahead by much or it could get ugly.

by DABUFFS50 on May 15, 2007 3:53 PM CDT reply actions

I have prepared myself for depression.
All sharp instruments have beens stowed, all vuluable items have been put away, all small children have been instructed to maintain a minimum safe distance.

Can the Bulls win? Absolutely. But it will be very difficult in that environment. To prevail, I think they need to do the following:

(1) Make good decisions with the ball, move it to the open shooter, and knock down shots;

(2) Control the boards (which may be more difficult if Skiles goes to a zone to hide Gordon, as he suggested he might).

It would be great to see them win one on the road.
